Atkins, Ornish, Zone, and Weight Watchers

The Journal of the American Medical Association has compared the Atkins, Zone, Ornish, and Weight Watchers diets.

The study only had 160 participants, and for those that stuck to the diets, weight loss occurred. At 1 year (of those that stayed with the diet) weight loss was as follows:

Atkins 2.1 kg
Weight Watchers 3.0 kg
Zone 3.2 kg
Ornish 3.3 kg

Amusingly, Weight Watchers responds with their own press release attempting to defend their results. They say that the people in the study were only issued with a Weight Watchers cookbook.

What's the bottom line? Changing your diet for the better DOES work (well initially anyway!).
