Kirstie Alley Fights Back
After being cruelly hounded by popular media (who made a huge deal over her weight and size), Kirstie Alley is about to use the media to her advantage.
Not only is she starting her own reality / documentary show - The Fat Actress - but she has signed up to be the poster girl for Jenny Craig. The Jenny Craig ads will follow her as she aims to shed her weight.
I had a great time getting fat and now I'm going to have an even greater time losing weight," Alley, 53, said in a statement. "I had four offers from other companies, but I wanted to go with the ... one that I knew would work — and, let's face it, Jenny Craig's food is hands-down the yummiest."
Spoken like a true paid sponsor. Good luck!

I have always been a huge fan of Kirstie Alley's. Her weight gain never bothered me at all and didn't affect the way I felt about her until she started lying about it. Being overweight myself I know how much I weigh and she definitely weighs more than her stated 206 pounds! Give me a break! I've been thoroughly offended by her new show 'Fat Actress' also. She certainly is scraping the bottom now!!
Replyyeah there is no way that she is 206 pounds. Unless she is only 5'2" or something. How tall is she?
ReplyAnyway, she seems comfortable lying all her cards on the table. shes fat and shes not ashamed. So I at least admire her attitude.

Fat Actress
Ah, the snobbery of Hollywood. Who is to say that acting skills need not to apply, is it only for the thin, beautiful and lucky?
Fat Actress Premieres in early 2005 on Showtime
Showtime has prearranged "Fat Actress," a six-episode, half-hour amalgam comedy and reality series starring two-time Emmy® Award winner Kirstie Alley. This show is an actuality depicting her life. The show was inspired by Alley's bona fide actual life, said Robert Greenblatt, President of Entertainment for Showtime Networks Inc. Alley puts her real life experiences on air and recreates them in the utmost, radical, half-hour amalgam comedy.
Some may recall the all so famous tabloid picture takers that shot an image of “Alley” not looking her “Hollywood” best. The Hollywood filter of actors is eroding fast, and we hope they are hip enough to throw up all possible embankments. So, what ever happened to acting as a stipulation in making a score on getting a pilot, a screen test, or better yet a movie?
I think Alley is an icon a “legend” and has achieved such stature, so why does Hollywood hold her up to public scrutiny? Put on a few pounds and your OUTTA here mentality is going to be short lived! For now I guess we have to settle for the crème de la crème as a visual “Icon” but as much as we are up for the Reality TV why not apply that rule to a Hollywood Movie, give or take a few pounds? No pun intended Alley!
Is this a manner of elitism in contemporary “Hollywood” and the discriminating qualities in all of us or is it only “Hollywood”?
Replyi think that kristie alley is one sexy big woman!!!
Replyher poster for fat actress says, bite me... and i definitely would!!
Kirstie Alley's book "How to lose your ass and regain your life" is a good quick read. She has an amazing sense of humor about her weight and it does not rule her life. She is one of those rare people who look good overweight.
ReplyI love her but how tall is Kirstie Alley?
ReplyKirstie you are my inspiration ! ! ! !
ReplyKristie!!! I love you... Look I'm just 27 years old but since I saw you in this movie LOOK WHO'S TALKING I fell in love with you... Can you imagine that I was a little kid though...
Congratulations You look GORGEOUS!!! Do you want to marry me??
ReplyKirstie is looking good these days (May 2006), and more power to her. I will forgive her hypocritical remarks over the past few years about being heavy, but I agree with the other posters that she lied shamelessly about her top weight and sizes.
If she had been "around 200" pounds and wore a XL or 14-16 at her 5'7" height as she claimed, then it's a total mystery how she still managed to look 250 and a size 22.
A large woman myself and one who's been up and down the scales once or twice, I resent Alley's letting her vanity taking precedence over treating the women she would presumptively help as role model with respect for their intelligence.
ReplyI remember very clearly when Kirstie "got clarity" and began promoting her show "Fat Actress" - and I remember very clearly that her publicity line was that she was large but she was not going to let it control her life, and her show was going to be about being big/fat, BUT BEING PROUD OF HERSELF, and making a comeback in Hollywood AS SHE WAS.
ReplyNowhere was there any implication of "but I have to lose weight to feel self-worth," which is definitely the line Kirstie's been spinning this past year.
There may be those who forgive her hyprocrisy, but I was really looking forward to her personal comeback and feel COMPLETELY BETRAYED by her 180 degree turnabout in attitude.
It's fine that she lost weight, even that she is milking it for all it's worth; even though the fine print on every Jenny Craig ad states "results not typical."
What is wrong is that she acted like she was - and by extension, people could be - satisfied and happy and content even if overweight; and then turned on those fans who were cheering her for her honesty and attitude.
P.S. I'm no longer a fan.
How long can Kirstie keep up the lie? There is NO WAY she weighs 145 now. Yes, she looks nice in her bikini, but she is still at least 165-175 lbs. She obviously weighed around 250 before she began the Jenny Craig program! Why won't the people at Jenny Craig make her tell the truth about her starting weight? I'm thrilled for her and her weight loss, but she is being incredibly dishonest with her fans.
ReplyI admire Kirstie, and I have no idea (or interest) in what she weighs. But unless she's willing to eat Jenny Craig food forever - an impossibility for the average person(both financially and psychologically as the human spirit hates to be restricted in this way), I don't want to be around when her house of cards begins to crash. Food and eating issues aren't about food and eating, they're about self-love and self-worth issues. Getting to some number on a scale isn't necessarily arriving at goal weight, to the contrary it can become our gaol weight - we become ever fearful of gaining what we've lost and more obsessed with food, eating and our bodies. Then we are in MORE trouble, not less. I really hope Kirsie proves me wrong, but if she does sadly, she'll be the exception. What worries me most though is that millions of women will listen to her, relate to her and try the ka-zillionth diet only to be ultimately left feelings as they are the weak failures!
ReplySo, as a girl who was at 265lbs and 5'5", i know what that looks like. She had to of been close to that. I broke up with my ex fiance (who was a jack A$$ to say the LEAST!) and that was about 8 almost 9 months ago. I have since then lost 55lbs and am now at 210lb.
Oddly enough, and maybe it's just because i have big hips. I was in a size 24 pants when i was 265. Now i'm in a size 18-20...should i be in a smaller size of pants?
I've had low self esteem ever since the situation with my ex. Luckily, and i thank God every day, i found a wonderful man who is now my boyfriend. Steve is his name and he is the love of my life.
I am still losing weight, it's comming off a little slow but at least it's comming off. I'd honestly be happy at 150-160lbs. Of course, i would love to be about 140lbs but i would be happy and satisfied with myself in about 50 - 60 more lbs of weight loss.
So tell me, does anyone know what some people who are the same weight as me, OR MORE, can wear such a small pants size? I'm baffled.
Thanks so much!
Stephanie
ReplyStephanie, I'm shorter than you but also, especially when I was overweight, pear-shaped. I went from 230lb to 115lb and I only lost 6 pants sizes. People say 10lb = 1 size usually, well, not for me, haha. When I'd lost 50lb, I had just gone from size 18 pants to size 14, so 2 sizes. I think it is just that us pear-shaped people lose the fat not on the legs/hips first.
But yeah, I think Kirstie Alley is lying, as I've said before.
