Bowflex: Get Fit and Injure Yourself
The popular fitness company Bowflex issued a recall recently of some of its most popular fitness equipment.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The makers of the popular Bowflex fitness machine are recalling nearly 800,000 units after dozens of people reported injuries from mechanical problems...
Thats quite a big recall. Apparently the machine's seat can unexpectedly break.
Next time you're lying on the bench pressing 150 pounds -- thats something you DON'T want happening. Scarey stuff.

If you read the release here (http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml05/05048.html) you'd see that this is a "Fall Risk", not a risk of weight injuring the user.
Especialy since one of the great things about the BowFlex is that you are *never lifting weights*. but rather pushing or pulling against resistance rods.
Design defect on the particular model cited not withstanding - this is one of the reasons the BowFlex is a much safer way to "lift weights".
ReplyAgreed - The report cites only two SERIOUS injuries (requiring stitches). As Mikey says - with BowFlex there are no weights involved. Its just the thought of seat pin breaking (on ANY machine) is quite a scarey thought. Thanks for the link Mikey. - Jim (Diet Blog)
ReplyI think I'd rather risk a fall than risk a 100 lb weight falling on my chest, so I guess Bowflex isn't really all that bad after all.
ReplyThere's a ton of great health and fitness links coming from this blog, thanks for all of the info.
I've been researching Bowflex equipment recently, with intent to purchase. The parent company, Nautilus, is right down the street from where I live.
Whatever happened with the above recall. There's nothing at the link?
Anyways, I put together a small info site with discussion on everything bowflex. I'm into health & fitness, so I'll definitely bookmark some of the linked blogs.
cheers
