Sleep and Lose Weight
Popular media loves to get hold of interesting weight loss 'breakthrus' and then blow them all out of proportion. It's amazing how this study was picked up by most news outlets and greatly exaggerated with headlines like "Sleep Helps Keep You Slim"
The study pointed out that your leptin levels increase with lack of sleep. In other words you get hungrier. No kidding - I'm sure the last time you pulled an allnighter you felt a bit peckish yeah?
Does this mean that sleeping more makes you lose weight? I don't think so... I suspect that when we get less sleep we eat more... and grab for the quick-fix junk food.

People who are depressed have trouble sleeping and eating.
ReplyI recently lost 15 pounds. I'm 5'5'' and weigh 112 lbs with around 5% body fat. The amount of sleep I need (between 5hrs and 5hrs 45 mins)is around 1 hr less than I needed before the weight loss. I am also eating less.
Is there any connection between weight loss and eating less with needing less sleep?
