Demi Moore Goes Raw
Raw Food Diet gets plenty of attention.
Photos of a svelte over 40 Demi Moore have generated a buzz around the country about a hot diet trend she adheres to - a raw food diet. Reportedly, Woody Harrelson, Sting, and Donna Karan are also devoted raw fans.
If you want to go raw, you'll need to say goodbye to meat, dairy, baked goods, breads, and almost everything else in the grocery store. A raw food diet is a completely vegetarian diet, including no dairy, and no food is cooked above 118 degrees.

Yikes, seems a little extreme...but if it works for them then it's cool. :D
Replyi like my sushi... hell i could eat that shit everyday cuse its sooo damn good, but not everything should be raw, and besides, if vegan gets really popular Outback's all over the US will have to shut down, and we all know that just aint right! *LOL*
Replydoes anyone know where i could find an actual description of the raw food diet, what it contains, limitations and recipes???? thanks
ReplyThis is fantastic. Not only does it give them the healthiest looking bodies but it saves the environment and most important you don't have to kill our animals to live. thumbs up to raw!!!
ReplyI applaud Demi Moore and I too will make the decision that she has made. Thank-you Demi!!!!!!!
ReplyCOOL WEBSITE!
ReplyWrong. On a "raw food diet" you can have raw meats, this is not necessarily a vegetarian diet. Some raw food enthusiasts are also adding raw milk from animals raised organically.
There is a vegan raw food diet, too.
ReplyIts all about adjusting your eating pattern doesnt matter what you will eat?www.dieetvoorafvallen.com thats the diet im doing atm but its only available in the netherlands. :) But raw meat yaks rather would have a normal breakfast , normal lunch and supper.. :)
ReplyI read an article where Demi drank something containing Cranberry juice, water and flax seed (oil) and lost like 15 lbs in two weeks. Anyone heard of this? I can't seem to find the article and need to know how to mix this stuff together.
ReplyI have been eating raw foods for about 2 months. It is more of a lifestyle change than a weight loss plan. It is about being healthy. I found good info at rawenergydiet.com
Replyi'd rather stay home with a handful of twinks than go on a date with a stud
Replywe are doing the coolest health class project on the raw food diet but we need some more info PLEASE HELP.SO POST MORE INFO!!!1
Replywhat kind of meats can you eat and what can you eat that you don,t cook... i am a big meat and potatoe girl. but when i saw that message that the girl said i,d rather stay home with a bunch of twinkies instead of a hot guy wooooooooow not me i wolud like to get looking good and feeling better i have lost 36 lbs but i need a plan i am just coming back to life here after fighting and winning agaist breast cancer so i gained 90lbs during all that. so help somebody i have been fighting weight my whole life now i got it back and i want to be completely healthy thanks pam
ReplyHealthy? Have you looked at Vegetarians? They all look sick. Your body needs meat. Not pills and rabbit food. But, that is ok, more cows for those of us who are normal.
ReplyHave you ever seen how the animals are killed for food? Have you seen any of the clips from PETA or the Humane Society? Have you seen all the hormones and antibiotics they stuff on the animals? If the slaugherhouses were made of glass, anybody who has any kind of sensibility for a human being, would be a vegetarian. No wonder 80% of the population is overweight.... Get the facts . Be skinny. Be Vegetarian!!!!
ReplyHave you ever seen PETA's mision statement that says they want every drug which was ever developed using animal testing to be banned? Have you ever considered that that includes insulin, thyroid medication, aspirin, most antibiotics, etc. and that many many people would die? Have you ever considered that PETA's vice-president is herself, an insulin-dependent diabetic, but who thinks she deserves to have insulin because she fights for animal rights, but everyone diabetic should die because it is more ethical? Have you ever considered they are hypocritical nutcases, before you start preaching their gospel?
I bet you haven't considered that.
ReplyAHHAHHAHAHHA that is the stupidest thing I have EVER heard in my life!! Yeah, your body needs all those hormones and pesticides and protein that slows you down. Yeah you definitely need ALL OF that.
ReplyWhat a let down!!!!! Thought you meant (Nude)
ReplyGood Morning
ReplyIm having a baby, Im only 9weeks into pregnancy, Do you recomend RAW Food, For both of Us. What type of diet or foods should I eat.???
MR.
Sounds great but can be toxic due to the pesticides and polutuion that is all over fruit and veges bought in grocery stores. So unless your pullin in some serious change like Demi, and can afford to buy all organic (which by the way, they use pesticides too, they just don't have to tell us about it!!) and have a personal nutritionist and chef, you might want to re-think this one.
ReplyAB
Give me a break. You don't have to "pull serious change" to be able to afford organic. It's affordable and healthy.
Replysome foods (like tomatoes, carrots) actually are better for you when cooked. just dont overcook. it helps release the nutrients. this is just the latest fad. remember the atkins diet?
ReplyJust what we all needed, another fad diet from some Hollywood nut case. Just watch the amount you eat and get off your rear for a little exercise and we can all be healthy.
ReplyThe only nutcases are the guys here like Tom Trexler who make comments about others yet lack the ability to use critical thinking. Demi Moore looks better than the majority of women her age, and Sting and Woody Harrelson also are attractive men. The diet does seem difficult, though if someone has the right resources (whether a paid nutritionist, and chef to make sure they are eating correctly, or else someone has spent enough time studying this type of diet and has a group of educated people in the nutrition and cooking field that they can network with through a local club) and their able to maintain good health, than nobody should make negative comments, but instead should spend time learning how the diet can be of benefit to others. And if not, than they should list the reasons, not go fingerpointing and putting down individuals who are trying a diet that they're often doing for good reasons: to try to maintain their health.
ReplyWell said, and anyways negative comments like that are usually born of ignorance and that's all.
ReplyIn the end of the day they are only opinions nothing based on any actual knowledge or experience.
I don't think, I KNOW it works, but only if done right of course and that might also take time, you know one has to unlearn a lot of conditioning and learn to deal with addictions and also to be able to think for themselves instead of just following the sheeple herd hehe
It's the most natural, ethical and environmental friendly way to eat EVER and it's worth to at least be open towards it, I'd recommend it to everyone, but do your research well...:)
And not only is it the most natural...it's also the oldest way to eat in the entire world, and not just a fad like so many are saying.
ReplyI think a "raw diet" is good for all of us for a change!! We are all eating too much beef and greasy foods today. This nation is facing an "obesity" crisis. It would be a "good" change and a "healthy" change for alot of us to try it out and get healthy. I'm all for it. I would love to have some more info on the subject.
ReplySo then a raw potato is better for you than a baked one? I can give up the meat easily, fried foods, etc., but I prefer my veggies at least steamed. So is this a bad thing?
ReplyI agree with Tom Trexler, the average american cannot afford what these hollywood bimpo's can, chef's personal trainers, etc... so when they make a diet plan that the average american can afford then by all means lets do it. I for one work 50-60 hours a week, I work out 4 times a week, cut out soda's and junk food, and you will see results. It is hard enough telling my wife that the people she see in magazines and fitness magazines, are professionals, that this is what they do for a living, hell most of the stars (as they are called) don't even have their own children because they don't want to mess up their bodies. So to (NOT ON A RAW DIET MYSELF) you get real, this is what these people do for a living, I would say this isn't even a real job, it's acting/pretending to be someone else in a movie.
ReplyOnly uneducated vegans look sick. Then again lots of meat eaters look pretty bad and are pretty sick most of the time. I have been a bodybuilder for thirty years and I was my "biggest" when 100% vegan for ten years. I am now raw vegan for the last five or so and yes I lost some weight but you can see my abs through my shirt at 180 lbs. Sure it is harder to eat right, but it is harder to do the right thing in this society on many levels. I have not been sick like most people for at least 20 years- they keep getting colds and flus and headaches and stomach aches- I have none. Plus I am in 300% (yes 3x) better cardio shape at age 46 than when I was 19. Most people get weaker and slower in 25 years.
ReplyThe best way to determine how much protein you need is NOT by blindly following the literature! yes- it is a good starting point but
Replyremember how many factors are involved-cooked or raw, processed or whole foods, your digestion, etc)
All wiild animals and wild humans DO NOT FOLLOW ANY
NUTRITIONAL RECCOMENDATIONS yet they are the healthiest BY
FAR when compared to civilized man and domesticated animals.
The secret to protein consumption is to become AWARE of your
body and health- especially your BREATHING and BREATHING
PASSAGES. If your nostrils are the least bit clogged and breathing
is not "clean" then your body is processing far too much JUNKI
including, and especially PROTEIN. Why do you think yogis stand on their heads? To illustrate their internal cleanliness by not getting a stuffed nose. Most people take decongestants. If you eat too much protein - heavy foods - like nuts and seeds- then you will experience this clogging. Also, once you adopt a PROGRESS
EXERCISE PROGRAM for any length of time, you will see how little
"protein" you need to build muscle. You will discover as I did that it
is a CALORIE issue PLAIN AND SIMPLE- not a protein issue at all.
That is, if you eat a sensible WHOLE FOOD diet. (Like the wild
animals and people) I have been an actual human experiment for
30 years on this exact subject, as have been many of my clients. Once you become AWARE of your body - you no longer have to follow any "scientific guidelines".. Remember what Einstein said, "Untiil man can duplicate a blade of grass, nature laughs at his so-called scientific knowledge"
Chris, thank you for your post. I am looking for some concrete info on the subject, maybe webpages or books or advice from people who have experience and you seem to really know what you are talking about. I would really appreciate any info or reference that you can provide that can help me figure out where to start.
ReplyPeople be wary. This is just another fad diet. Like Atkins, South Beach, "Cabbage Soup" etc.....
Especially put a celebrity's name on it and BAM you have something going on. Everyone knows how to eat healthy. Everyone knows how to exercise. It's just wether we choose to do it. For example all these "miracle pills" you see on t.v., they always say with a sensible diet and exercise you can loose wieght. Well duh! I think if you have to follow a program then the best one out there is weight watchers.
ReplyI'm 20 years old, female. I personally have been raw vegan for a year. :o) Most people are not willing for that drastic of a change. But I like living on the edge of every day reason. :o)
ReplyI think everyone should be looking for what they can do to personally prevent cancer/diabetes/heart disease/osteoperosis/autoimmune disease... I feel that eating raw fruits and veggies, nuts, and seeds, drinking pure water, getting fresh air, and excercising, those will keep my body clean and going strong for the next 100 years. :o)
Oh, one other thing. Let me display the results of this lifestyle. :o)
ReplyMy mom had pre-cancer that her doctors were worried about. Although they didn't give her any reccommendations. So, it shook her up enough to question her diet.
She got me into raw foods. Together we lost about 60 pounds. :o)
I'm 20 years old and never felt better. I'm 5'11 and down to 135. That is a wonderful feeling. I have struggled with my weight for most of my teen years. And for the last year I haven't had to think about it at all. We had tried Blood Type Diet, Body For Life, been vegan, cut out sugar. But those things weren't enough and never got the results we now enjoy. Being vegan or vegetarian doesn't mean you eat healthy, unless you make it a big part of your diet to eat produce, you can still look yucky! God began this thing in a garden. ! So, eat your veggies. :o)
Oh, one other thing! My mom had blood tests done and is currently free of any cancer or precancerous cells~! Good luck on your search for health and remember adding produce will always add to your health!
Coming from teh fitness world, i initially had loads of questions with regard to cutting out meat. Now i can say that it's the best thing i've ever done for my health. i think many of us disregard the health of the heart in all this search for being slim AND healthy. personally, my body runs most efficient on a vegan diet full of raw foods. i'm in between going all the way raw, which i'm sure i will be one day...reading things about the effects of gluten, sways me in the raw foodist direction. i definitely agree with Brookie (GOOD JOB!!!)
also, something i've been looking into is the body's PH balance. there is so much to know, so do as much research as you can...in terms of my own health, i've done more healing for myself with foods than any doctor has ever been able to do. THAT SPEAKS!!
ReplyWhoever said that a Raw Food Diet is solely vegetarian is simply incorrect. There is sushi, lightly seared tuna and steak tartar as well as capriccio. There are also dehydrated meats, fruits and veggies. So the enzymes are still alive, the minerals and the vitamins are still in it. Let's not forget about ceviche or procciutto. Also, raw oysters and clams.
Check out supermodel Carol Alt's book "Eating in the Raw" ... The possibilities are endless.
ReplyYes, Shannon. I drink fresh veggie juice and have fruit meal a day (with raw cream or coconut cream and raw honey), but when it comes to protein, I find that lots of good protein comes from sashimi and tartare. Bison tartare is a super treat. Also there is no rule, for people who want to be healthy, against raw milk, cream, butter and eggs in the right combinations, for body building and general health. I find the recipes in The Recipe for Living Without Disease to be outstanding. My wife is recovering from a disease that previously was fatal to her mother, both of her mother's sisters, her grandmother and her sister-in-law. My wife leads a near normal life during this. She wrote a sonnet about it; find it as sonnet by barbara ellingson.
ReplyI'm eating vegan (sometimes I cheat and have seafood, except regualar fish, and I have mayonnaise once in a while). A very healthy mayo is Hollywood brand mayo with Safflower oil. Safflower has the greatest amount of GLA, which is a healthy fat that is excellent for the skin and probably in avoiding wrinkles (maybe). "Hollywood" is the one of the very few brands that sells Safflower oil and it's mayo. If you can't find it at your supermarket or at a health food store or whole foods store, then look for ordering it online.
I sometimes switch back and forth between total raw (vegan) and vegan and hopefully i'll be able to fully move to raw (vegan). Although, I don't know if i can give up on seafood (shrimp, lobster, crab, california rolls), but i'll try. As long as there's vegan seafood (I think it's seafood made out of soy - it tastes really good, but not sure what the ingredients are), maybe I'll be good to go. I avoid all dairy, eggs (except mayo once in a while), and meat and anything containing animal products (did you know doritos has gelatin in it which is from boiled cow skin, i think).
I also cut out certain fruits, like apples. ONLY because I'm intolerant to the sugar in apples (i think it's fructose). I don't eat too much fruit, because of the sugar, but the fiber, potassium, vitamins nd minerals are something you need, so I do not totally avoid it. I try to eat more berries, instead, which are excellent in fiber, nutrients and anti-oxidants.
I remember reading on Juliano's Raw Food Restaurant website (located in Santa Monica, CA) and it said that if an elephant and gorilla, which are some of the strongest animals, can eat raw and have that much strength, then why can't a human? A gorilla eats fruits and nuts and i think flowers (maybe wrong about the flowers) and a gorilla can bench press 3500 lbs. In India, they have certain flowers as a delicacy.
I also detoxify myself every morning with a routine. I drink a glass of water, then 5-15 minutes later I have a glass of water with pure lemon juice, and then 5-15 minutes later sometimes black tea (and I try to avoid coffee, but take that instead if you really don't want the tea). I am completely flushing out my system in the morning.
With the tea, I take 1 cranberry tablet, 1 GNC chloraphyll capsule (which has a small amount of copper and flushes out the system of toxins, including metals) and two Hoodia capsules. The Hoodia I get from GNC's website (gnc.com) and it is not what I recommend to everyone, but I'm trying it out for the first time to see how it goes with reducing hunger since I want to lose some weight.
The kind of tea I drink is Lipton black tea (caffeinated). How I make the tea is I take 1 mug of room temperature bottled water and soak the tea bag in there. I do this before I start my morning routine, so that the the tea is fully soaked by the time I have it. I don't boil the water because I personally believe it's killing the health benefits of the tea. I also keep all my supplements and tea and coffee(I buy Kava low acid coffee and drink it once in a while if I really need it) in the fridge to keep them fresh as possible.
Then 5-15 minutes later I drink almond milk mixed with a scoop of powdered glutamine, because I workout and it really helps. I drink the glutamine with almond milk once in the morning (after my tea) and once after I workout in the evening. It's great for skeletal muscle tissue. I also take L-Carnitine before and during my workout. They say during a raw foods diet, you're not supposed to take any supplements, I think. But I'm not exactly raw yet, so whatever.
Continuing with my morning routine... after I have my glutamine drink, 5-15 minutes later I have a packet of almonds (which I keep in the fridge for freshness). It's fat is healthy for you and it's good fiber. But the purpose of eating the almonds is so that I'll have food in my stomach for when I take my next drink of water with supplements. I like Planter's salted Go Nuts 8 packs. One small snack pack measures perfectly how much you can have and you feel like you're taking in a guilty pleasure like junk food or something.
Then 5-15 minutes later after that, with a glass of bottled water (I always drink either Fiji or Glaceau Smart water or just regular filtered water if I don't have bottled), I take some supplements. I take 1 capsule of (GNC brand) 2500mg biotin (good for hair, skin and nails and energy too), 1 billberry caplet (a source of anti-oxidants and good for the brain and eyes), 1 tablet of GNC kelp (has iodine which is good for the thyroid... consult with doctor though; kelp is seaweed, I think). Sometimes, instead of water, I'll have these supplements with one of Odwalla's smoothies. Any smoothie without the apple juice. Because most Naked Juice and Odwalla smoothies have apple juice. Odwalla Wellness drink is the best and it really does make you feel almost as alert as if you were having coffee. But I am reducing taking that maybe once a week because of the sugar content.
I also drink pure Pomegranate juice once a week. I have also went on AmazonThunder.com and have ordered Acai berry capsules, Acai berry pure juice, and Acai berry tea. It has really good health benefits. My friend drinks this to stay skinny. But it has other health benefits. Read the website.
Just a side note, it's been recently studied that not only Acai, but Blackberries have the highest antioxidant content out of all antioxidant foods, supposedly. Odwalla and I think Naked Juice sell blackberry smoothies. But it has apple juice, so I avoid it. I'd rather take the supplements or find a purer form of it.
Anyway, back again to my morning routine, 5-15 minutes after I have my water with supplements, I'll have my raw spinach burrito. It includes Mission brand spinach flavored wrap with some mayo spread o it and Fresh Express pre-packed raw baby spinach (a heaping amount, but no need, less good). Since I don't eat much raw greens like I should, this is one way I incorporate it. And I feel more energetic too. I eat it early, because, knowing me, I will forgo eating my greens later. So, morning or early in the day before I have lunch is the best time for me. Or even for lunch is good too. Instead of spinach you can put kale, collard greens (i looove southern cooked collard greens), romano lettuce, mustard greens, or whatever. I don't cook or microwave anything. Especially since I don't have a microwave nor any pots or pans and I hate cooking, period. I like it quick and easy. When starting out eating healthy, if you lack some willpower like I do, make your health lifestyle and eating habits as easy as possible. Even if it takes months before you completely undergo a healthier lifestyle. I forgo lunch sometimes, and if I really need to, I'll have my dinner early. Normally, I'll have my dinner late, after my evening workout. I should workout in the morning, but you know me!
One hour before you workout, you should try and eat something. I don't always. They say carbs are best before a workout and protein after. But I feel better working out when taking protein before hand. Since I'm vegan, I rarely do that. But I having carbs after you workout is really very good, accordig to some health exerts. They say if you dont have carbs after workoing out, you're gonna feel it, and you wont want to workout as much the next day.
Also, one hour before workoing out, have a large bottle of water. I have noticed that a LOT of water helps keep my stamina up during a rigorous workout. Who cares if you have to go to the bathroom alot.
Before I workout in the evening, with a glass of water, I take my vitamin B complex capsule (which may be better to take with breakfast or lunch because you might stay up at night) and four capsules of GNC brand 500mg L-Carnitine.
There is L-Carnitine and there is Acetyl-Carnitine. They're not the same. L-Carnitine is for energy and burning fat. Acetyl-Carnitine is good for the brain. Ill take acetyl when I can.
Then sometimes before my workout I'll have black tea if I'm tired (which may keep you up at night, so no need to take it). I've tried taking those energy drinks like Tab or Red Bull, and the taurine in them give me a headache, so I do not take them anymore. In fact, I avoid Taurine. Not that you need to, but I just don't feel I should take it.
During my workouts, when I change between cardio machines or different rigorous exercises, I'll take a capsule of L-Carnitine. If you're afraid of taking too much L-Carnitine, which I have never had a problem with, then reduce the amount you take before you're entire workout. Or reduce the amount in the capsule to 250mg between your different exercises. While switching exercises, I usually take the capsule every half hour. Not EVERY half hour. I'll probably stop after a couple times. I have also taken L-Carnitine before going to bed and it has never ever interfered with my sleep at all. It really helps to burn the fat while you sleep, I think. Now when I take all this L-Carnitine, I make sure I don't take so much in one day. My dosages vary.
After my workout (on days that I don't do cardio or exercise classes, I workout with my trainer two to three times a week). I do not workout two days of the week, usually when I fast.
Plus, I don't take all these vitamins and supplements everyday. I skip two days out of the week. During those two days I fast. Usually on weekends. The first day I'll go on a water fast and the second day I'll go on an herbal tea fast. Be prepared with alot of toilet paper! Or I'll switch and have the herbal tea fast on the first day and the water fast on the second day. This is my way of detoxifying (and saving some food on money - hey, you gotta find any benefit there is in your mind). I drink water after every bathroom break and stop an hour to couple hours before going to bed. If I have to, I'll keep drinking till I go to bed, if I didnt have enough earlier. and there's no limit. I mean, if I take more than 8-10 glasses, I don't care.
The herbal teas that I recommend are poemgranate tea, roobois red tea (decaf or caffeinated), black tea, white tea (decaf or caffeinated), green tea and green tea with ginseng. Celestial Seasonings, Lipton and other brands sell them. I only take one cup of each kind of herbal tea. And then I take my water, if i need to. Sometimes, I'll have more of the black tea for energy. all in all, there are times I will completely not take any caffeinated drinks, because I want to see if I can get off of caffeine. So, far I am not there yet.
If I'm really low on energy during these fasts and I am really hungry I'll have an Odwalla or Naked Juice smoothie (even the ones with apple juice). One of the best is the Naked Juice Green Machine smoothie. It has sprirulina and wheat grass. There's also Naked Juice Red machine which has red algea. And there's Naked Juice Blue Machine which has blueberries. Both or one of these brands also carries blackberry smoothies, almond/soy smoothies, carrot juice, orange juice, grapefruit juice, pomegranate juice, strawberry smoothy (yum!) and so forth. But any of these smoothies are good for you. Just beware of the sugar content and READ THE INGREDIENTS. My favorite is the Odwalla Wellness drink. All the Naked juices have apple juice in them , I think. Some of the Odwalla smoothies do not, like Wellness, Mo'Betta, soy/almond and so forth. Look at their website.
Other things I'll snack on both during non-fast and fasting days are small amounts (not the whole thing) of Odwalla bars or Mezzetta jalepeno stuffed large olives and that's about it, I think. But the whole purpose of the fasting days, is not to take anything. Even you should avoid the smoothies.
Oh, and after I workout, if I need immediate carbs, I'll snack on baked lays potatoe chips (my favorite). Sometimes, I'll cheat and have Kettle Cooked salt n' vinegar chips. Usually after I workout I'll have a veggie patty burger. Before I workout, when I decide to have my early dinner or late lunch, I'll eat my vegan foods from a restaurant. Usually I'll have Spicy Mint Noodles (which has tomatoes, green and red bell peppers, onions, romano lettuce, spice and mint, all sauteed). Very fulfilling before a workout. Or i'll have some raw wraps or raw rolls or different kinds of veggie burgers (lentil burger, soy fish burger, soy chicken burger, soy steak burger). They also have foods with soy shrimp which I love. I sometimes cheat and have some delicious string fries. To fulfill my sweet tooth i'll have soy vanilla ice cream with a very healthy specially made carrot cake or just soy chocolate icecream. They also have delicious wheat/gluten free pancakes with maple syrup. They also have vegan green, yellow and red curries. Usually Thai. Thai food's the best.
Also, before I workout or on my fasting days, I take a tablespoon of healthy oils. I use to take them before going to bed, but I noticed the energy from the oils was keeping me up. These oils are very good for the skin, brain and heart. Take 'em to stay young. The oils I take are walnut oil, garlic infused extra virgin olive oil, grapeseed oil, Hollywood brand safflower oil, and Thai anchovy fish oil. I haven't been taking the walnut oil, but I will at some point. In fact, I snack on walnuts sometimes, if I'm really hungry. Sunflower seeds are good too. And it's not necessary to have them salt-free. Anyway, back to the oils before i workout... I take a tablespoon of each oil. Woa! Right? But keep in mind, you need fat in order to burn fat. And it's good for the skin. In fact, I take these oils as my beauty regime, as well as a good source of energy for working out. I am not good with taking all these expensive beauty creams to ward of wrinkles. So, I take supplments and oils. I believe that you need to nourish beauty from the inside. pLus, tons of bottled water. Fiji is really good because it has lots of Silica which is good for the hair, skin and nails. Celebrities love Fiji water. Anyway, these oils I take from their bottles are better than capsule form. But you can take capsule form too. These bottles are sold at supermarkets. Safflower you might have to get online. But remember i do not take these oils everyday. I skip a couple days out of the week.
Oher suplpments I recommend are enzyme supplements, MSM, Glucosamine Chondroitin (sp?), Silica, Gelatin, Magnesium... and I think that's about it. I also recommend flaxseed oil or capsules, evening primrose oil capsules, borage oil or capsules and fish oil capsules. Try and find capsules or oils (such as borage) which is high in GLA. GLA is excellent for the skin. Also, try to take those multi omega oil capsules which have all these omega 3 or 6 oils like ADL, DHL, (sp?) etc. If you're taking the bottled oils like I am, you may not any of these capsule forms.
After I eat (like my almonds, my raw spinach burrito, my vegan meal, my veggie patty burger), I have one or two of those enxyme capsules after each meal. Proteins, fats, carbs, sugars, veggies, fruits, dairy, fiber, etc each have their own enzyme. Enzymes are very helpful in digestion and absorbing nutrients. I use to avoid them because who wants to absorb carbs, sugar and fat! But I havent gained any weight and I feel more energetic. And the whole purpose is to look and feel healthier by absorbing those nutrients from your food. The whole purpose of avoiding processed/cooked food and eating raw is so that you get those enzymes and stay healthier. It's good for the skin too.
After I have my last meal, before i go to bed I take Glucosamine, cod liver oil capsule (I prefer taking Vitamin A at night when you're out of the sun). That second glass of almond milk and glutamine I told you about earlier is for after I workout, so don't forget that also. Take it before or after your last meal, but after you workout.
My other routines include taking once a week or once a month a regular massage, pedicure, body wax and i'm going to try accupuncture, but beware of that last one and consult with an accupuncture doctor. I am also going to try colonics (sp?) once a month. Can't wait! (Not!) And one thing I should be doing, which I've slacked off on, is have a full body microdermabrasion once a week or once a month. That can get pretty expensive, so I usually do just the areas of my body which I think I need it the most. It's supposedly good for removing blemishes, scars, dead skin, redcuing pore size and maybe even wrinkles.
Whatever you do, just try a day at the spa once a month, with a full treatment. and I recommend the body wax, because perosnally I think you're skin needs to breathe, it's healthier and may reduce blemishes. Because the hair on your body, wherever you have it, may be holding onto all that dead skin, dirt, toxins and oils. You do not need that on the skin. I also recommend a peel on the face and/or body which I think is called Glycolic (sp?). Also, go for a facials. Hand and feet paraffins are great.
For those of you who want younger looking hands, I recommend using Purell hand sanitizer (regular) to wash your hands instead of regular soap. Only Purell. No other hand sanitizer. I use to have wrinkly hands from washing them too often (am a germaphobe like my dad). BUt once i started using purell, my hands looks so much younger, it's unbelievable. And my eczema is gone.
I don't recommend Purell for the rest of the body of course. And as far as washing my hair and body, I just use regualr scented anti-bacterial soap (rarely Softsoap cause I don't think it works well on my body). After I stopped using shampoo, my scalp and hair became healthier. Shampoo, any kind, is actually not good for your hair or scalp. And I never use conditioner or styling products unless I'm at a salon. But since i do have dry hair, I use regualr Bath & Body lotion, scented. I don;t know what it is, but I've tried other lotions, and Bath & Body lotions are the only ones that work very well on my hair. I don't put too much of it close to my scalp, unless I wanna get rid of fly aways, then I'll put it near the roots. And my hair smells great. Trust me, it really works better than conditioner and you don't have build up. Just like lotion is good for the skin on the body, it's good for the hair.
Replydo you have the time, energy or dersire to give to anybody else after all this?!
ReplyBy the way, I have changed my morning routine a little. Once in a while, I'll change up my routine. I'd also like to recommend going to GNC for all your supplements or go to www.gnc.com. The first Monday-Friday of every month, GNC has Goldcard sales on their supplements and you get good savings. just subscribe for their Goldcard. And once you get the GNC Goldcard, if you lost it or misplaced it, then just call GNC's customer service line, give them your name some other info, and they'll give you your membership card number.
I'd also like to recommend pine nuts. In adition to the walnuts, almonds, and safflower nuts I eat every week/ daily, I have pine nuts. Pine nuts supposedly reduce appetite. I, so far, have not felt those particular affects from the pine nuts. But that could be because I only have a spoonful. To feel the appetite or craving suppression, you might need maybe 1/4 or 1/2 cup full, which is not bad. Don't worry so much about fat content. Remember, it's good for the skin, hair, brain, arteries AND you need fat in order to burn fat. Muscle is made of 90% water. So, when you workout, drink plenty of water and make sure you get enough potassium in order to avoid cramps or stiffness. But fat is, I think, made of only 20% water. So, muscle needs water and bad fats need good fats to push it out of the way.
In addition, in my previous entry above, I stated that I take Gelatin supplements. That's for collagen. At the same time, I mentioned that Doritos has gelatin in them which comes from boiled cow skin. That's true, as well, I think. But the gelatn supplements I take, I'm not sure where they come from. I thought they came from a plant resource. Either way, sometimes avoiding ALL animial products or by-products is difficult and they can sneak up on ya. Like I said, I'm not full vegan r raw, but I'M TRYIN.
Next, I'll show you a list of supplements I bought from GNC.com, during their Goldcard sale week, including the prices. I bought $300 worth of supplements, which should last me a while. But with the Goldcard savings, I ended up with around $50 worth of savings = approx. $250 or so. So, I ended up paying less that $300. But I also had to pay around $21 for 3-4 day delivery.
ReplyThe following are items I bought from GNC.com during Goldcard week. Some of the items from the order list, I did not include and therefore my subtotal and discount comes out to more than should. Those items are items which I never ordered but were given to me by GNC for ordering $300 worth of stuff. But they still include the cost of those free items at the bottom of the order list and then they show you the mark down. Also, the items that I do display and did order below, show the prices next to them, but might not show the discounted price, which comes at the end of the order.
I also show you the subtotal, discount, tax and shipping at the end. Once again, the increase in cost, above the $300 I told you about, come from items that I either got for free or were from the items I ordered without the discount. All of the sales & free parts comes at the discount amount showed right afterwards.

For some reason they put the Goldcard discount under Promotion discount. Because, like I said, there were free items (which I did not include on this list) they gave me as probably promotional items. So, to make it easier they probably just put all the discounts under one category. Also, the price to next to each supplement is I think the cost of the supplement without the discount. They give the discount of the total cost of all the items in full at the end.
ReplyChris: Anyone who starts an exercise program will most certainly pick up some muscle. This is just simple adaptation. The first pound of muscle you put on is the easiest. Could you build a body like Steve Reeves or, for those who watch bodybuilding nowadays, Ronnie Coleman without animal products? I have to say I doubt it.
It is vegan propaganda that animal products have to make you sick. People eat too many things besides meat to blame it on that. Vegans, however, tend to eat less processed food on average. This is where they pick up their health advantage. I am most healthy and most energetic when I've been eating meat AND unprocessed foods.
ReplyYes. Just google raw food body building.
ReplyAnother item I want to recommend is Lipton Family Size Tea Bags. For all you caffeine addicts, who cannot get enough caffeine out of one regular size small tea bag, go for the family size tea bags. They're these huge tea bags which are made for putting in pitchers. But since I LOVE my tea, I'll put one of those huge bags in one mug of room temp bottled water. And, of course, I re-use that tea bag atleast twice more. You don't have to, but you can. The family size tea bags come in smaller amounts in the boxes (instead of the 100 count or so you may usually buy in onenormal box of Lipton tea), but for me, that's enough. I buy one box a week of the family size tea bags and usually I don't even come close to finishing 1/4 the box in one week. This is also a great way to totally avoid real coffee and get the benefits of herbal tea. I haven't been back to regular coffee since I bought these tea bags.
I'd also like to recommend Sambazon smoothies. They're usually Acai berry smoothies mixed with other fruits and good stuff. They're really smooth and creamy because the Acai berry comes with LOADS of healthy omega fats/ oils. Some of them even have Guarana in it. I think others have green tea. Both give energy. I had them when I go on my fasts and i'm really hungry or really need a boost. They also come in Acerola berry. Acerola can be used on the skin as a skin lightener supposedly. I avoid the Sambazon Acai smoothies, because most of them have apple juice in them and I'm intolrant to apples (to the point where my lips and gums start getting swollen when biting into an apple). But I love the Acerola smoothies. The pure Acerola drink (without the apple juice) is more like juice and has ginger in it, which is good for the stomach. I'm going to have one Sambazon pure Acerola drink a day, 5 days a week. The Acai, I'll get from the pure kind I ordered from AmazonThunder.com.
Also, you can find Ginger powder in the baking section of your supermarket from McCormick. Add some of it to your coffee, teas or foods. Very healthy for the stomach.
ReplyI want to to recommend Oat milk, too. Good for ya. And there's Hazelnut milk, as well. Now, I'm drinking my morning glutamine with oat milk and my after workout glutamine with almond milk. Haven't tried the Hazelnut milk yet.
If you haven't notice, I dont mention soy milk. I don't know what it is about soy, but I don't think there's enough studies on it to recommend it. The thing is, they advertise these soy skincare products which help rmeove or reduce the growth of hair on the skin. So, if it removes hair on the body, why would I take it in and lose the hair on my head! But that's just my worry. I still sometimes order the soy meat (particularly the soy fish which is my favorite and is usually covered in some seaweed and I like the soy shrimp which looks and tastes like real shrimp) on the side with my vegan food, or I'll totally avoid it. The soy chicken is good too.
ReplySoy is great... as a fertilizer. I try to eat as little of it as possible. While most protein sources increase the amount of free-floating testosterone in your body, soy, sometimes called the "Poison Protein" in my sport, actually decreases it.
ReplyVegan Tip: When you order pizza, get it without the cheese. Same with eggplant parmigiana. Or chicken/veal parmigiana, if you're not vegan. If you're not vegan, atleast you'll lose weight from avoiding the cheese. But pizza without the cheese tastes so good in my opinion. But that's because I just don't like greasy things and cheese pizza can get greasy and overstuff you. I just love the tomato sauce, especially after I found out it's Lycopene is good for you.
And you can add vegetables. I usually order a small pizza once a week with no cheese, extra tomatoe sauce, and on one half side of the pizza put jalepeno peppers. I like spicy too. I can eat any peppers by themselves. The best is Pizza Hut Thin Crust pizza with no cheese and extra tomatoe sauce. I don't know WHAT they put in their tomatoe sauce (maybe lemon juice or something cause it's a little tangy), but Pizza Hut's tomatoe sauce is the bomb.
ReplyVegan, by the way, means you avoid all animal products. And that includes dairy and eggs. Vegetarian means you just avoid the meat, but you can still have dairy and eggs. There's different types of vegetarians, also. There's lacto-ovo vegetarian or something like that. Just look up all the different kinds of vegetarians on the internet. There are some who claim they're vegetarian but still eat only chicken and no other meat. That's another kind of vegetarian, which they have a name for. Not sure which one it is.
True vegetarians don't consider 'those' people "vegetarians." But whatever. Do what's good for you. I actually had this one Hindu vegetarian co-worker slam me when I told her i was trying to go "vegetarian" years ago. She didn't like the fact that I was still eating a little meat, like chicken. I looked at my other co-worker, like, "Is this idiot for real?? She's slamming me for eating a little meat and calling myself vegetarian? What a weirdo!" Who cares! I was transitioning at the time! Thinks she's so smart. some people just take this too seriously! Anyway, whatever you try, it's good to just stay healthy.
Secondly, regarding not eating meat and bulking up for sports. Well, I don't know. But I've met alot of really strong, really tall guys who grew up vegetarian. So, it's really all about genetics and how hard you work. Another guy I know is raw vegan and he looks like one of those muscle weight lifting people... umm i forgot what you call them, but they compete. Weight lifters? They're like Arnold Schwartzenegger (whatever spelling). Anyway, the raw vegan weight lifter said the body converts other things in your body into protein anyway. So, you have nothing to worry about.
ReplyYour recommendations are ridiculous.
You sound as though you are nothing more than a self obsessed narcisist.
It's nice to see that you recommend people live off a concoction of pills and supplements, with the occassional leaf of lettuce and a tea bag.
GET REAL and GET A LIFE!!
Mayo is NOT raw.
Mission wraps are NOT raw.
I was a raw vegan for 2 years. I drank my greens blendedwith water.I ate raw apples, flaxseeds and drank raw almond milk.
I was ALWAYS hungry. My muscles wasted away and I developed hyperprotenaemia. My Dr later diagnosed mewith Marasmus--severe muscle loss and protein starvation, often seen in young children in 3rd world countries.
Demi Moore has extensive plastic surgery to thank for her youthful appearance---NOT RAW VEGANISM.
