Hey dudes. I am like almost 5 ft. and I weigh like 110-120. I'm not worried because I am not fat and not super skinny but I am average. I'm just wondering if I could lose 30 pounds in 2 months... it might seem crazy but I do want to be at a good weight or underweight so that I can still gain some pounds without being where I am right now. I don't mind where I am but I would like to be thinner...all the hand me down jeans I get from my cousins are too slim and I can't fit into them because of my behind and my hips. I'm really focusing on the stomach, thys, and bottom. Like I said I am not fat but still... I am just paranoid. I'd like to stay small also because I am currently in figure skating and and the lighter you are the easier it is to balance...plus the outfits...I'd like to be small. In other words, I am wondering if it is possible to lose 30 pounds in 2 months playing DDR Ultramix 2 or 3, how long to play everyday, and if there is a mode to tell how many calories burned. I know someone asked some of that, but I didn't quite understand it... sorry lol I am a little slow. But please, if you have any advice, please notify me. Thank you a ton! I wish you all good luck yourselves and give you my sympathy. =)

Day 7 accomplished, will post a weight in soon. K. Nguyen, have you noticed any difference in way clothes fit etc? That right there is a sign you lost weight, if you are eating 1500 calories a day and playing that much, body fat should be coming off, don't trust a scale, that's like trying to trust a politician. Hey Snowflake, if you work hard at it and eat right 1200-1500 calories a day and play ddr maybe an hour a day you should be able to lose possibly 20 pounds in a couple months, but it takes alot of work, with you figure skating though, that should be a good workout itself so they should stack. Go for it lol, DDR is awesome.

Woohoo, just weighed, 7 days ago I weighed 162 pounds. Today I weight 159. That is 3 pounds in 1 week, eating 1200-1400 calories a day and DDR 1 hour a day, at 1000 calories on workout mode, in heavy. Average of 12 pounds a month, which is more than ok by me :) ...

K Nguyen ,
PLEASE do not do atkins..it is not permanent, i am in medical school and i will tell you that atkins and south beach is the number 1 worst diets in the world..your body needs carbs.. god woulda never made carbs if your body didnt need it ..think about it, is it really healthy to be eating bacon eggs and meat for breakfast everyday and losing wieght... it makes you lose wieght but its very bad for you. Carbs supplies your brain with oxygene w/ out carbs your brain is losing oxygene.. i know a teacher that was on atkins for awhile and she just passed out right in the classroom and was lucky she lived because she was not getting enough oxygene to the brain . i know someone else taht was gettin kidney stones and gallbladder problems from atkins.. if you havent lost wieght in 2 weeks you may be gaining muscle but losing inches.. think of wat an extreme workout ddr is for your legs i know my lower legs are rock hard..and i havent really lost any weight lately but i see that my clothes are looser.. in order to lose weight if you are heavy or to stay fit and healthy if you are already thin .. IS TO NEVER DO CRASH DIETS SUCH AS ATKINS ... you have to permenantly change your eating style... you have to eat CARBS but eat brown rice, whole wheat pasta and bread, eat as many fruits and veggies as you want..WATER LOTS OF WATER, herbal teas will also clean you out and have alot of antioxidants, fish, chicken, lean meat, if you go back a page or 2 in this site i have posted a comment for someone w/ more detailed healthy meals. i used to be heavy to and when i started eating like this weight was melting off, my skin was clearer, my hair and nails were growing alot faster OH, also any crash diet like atkins and south beach is a stress on the body and can cause hair to fall or thin out and break and make nails week.. if you have any questions just ask...but i hope i helped you out some

It's nice reading all of the advice here. This post seems to have gotten a life of its own, huh?

If anyone wants to join, I have a DDR community forum going myself. It seems like it would be easier than reading the comments section of this blog. You can go there by clicking on my name. Hope this helps.

Also I'd like to say congrats to Chris, if you ever get this. Losing ten pounds in one week is great! I wish I could do that...it's possible but I'm younger and I am too low self esteem in losing pounds...I just don't think it will happen even though it could. I'm too much in a rush to lose pounds. I'm hoping by May that I can burn off all I want but I am sure that if I work hard at it then I can do it. But in figure skating I only have like 2 weeks left of the level I'm in then I'm going straight to the next level on the next week...normally there is like a month break but this time there's not so maybe that will be a benefit in a way. May is the annual ice show and like I said before I'd be so glad and happy if I were smaller...but anyways I want to congratulate all of the people who keep trying and have success, and I wish luck to all of those willingly trying to lose weight. =) =)

I dont know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but if i get to the point where im too good for light but for some reason just cant move onto standard yet, i bought ankle weights and use them while im playing. really gives me a good workout. something to think about...

I weigh myself this morning and notice that I am 182 lbs. I was 185 when i started and gain 5 lbs 2 weeks ago and now i am 182. I think my fat conversion into muscle has slowed down and i am starting to lose weight.

Mark, you should try some easy song on standards. Always push yourself. Let your eyes get use to the faster speed and don't concentrate on one song, but try different songs. It helps.

I've just passed level 7 on Pump it Up yesterday. Got a C in Turkey March. If anyone knows what i am talking about hehe.

Hello All,

I have just spent an hour reading all of the posts. Congrats to you all...you weight loss stories are truly inspirational.

So here’s my deal: I am 27 (soon to be 28), which I imagine is older than most of you. I am currently 290 pounds (gasp) and have had it with this body. I want to get healthy and selfishly want to look good in clothes.

So here’s where DDR comes in. I just bought my 11-year-old son DDR Ultramix3 for X-BOX after seeing how much his cousin liked hers. I have tried it a couple of times and I LOVE it and am actually very good at the "light" mode. I really think that I could commit to using it regularly. So much like Adam, I am making a commitment TODAY to use DDR to help loose weight. Like Adam, I will keep you all posted on my progress. My goal weight is about 150 pounds.... only 140 to lose. Yikes. Hopefully I could reach this goal in about a year and a half...I swear on my life that I will not turn 30 with a weight problem. Instead I hope to be healthy and hot by then. Hopefully I can count on all of you for support.

One last thing...for those of you who have lost a substantial amount of weight using DDR...does your body tone up well or is there still massive amounts of loose skin? This is one of my biggest fears of weight loss.... especially since I have so much to loose! Just curious how the body responds to this type of

Terri,
You don't have to worry about loose skin hanging out after you've lost weight. If you don't do strength training, you just don't get the rippling muscles. Picture Jim Carry and Brad pitt. If you don't do strength training like lifting weights, push-ups, or situps, you'll just look like Jim Carry. However, if you lift weight and do strength training, your muscle will show like Brad Pitt. DDR is cardio workout. If you don't do cardio, your muscles won't show because of all the fat. so, you'll need to cardio in order to get rid of the fat; then, your muscle will show.

Hi all,
Note! Remember these three words...Everyone is different!
You may be reading a bunch of stories on how people lost this much in that much time. But don't expect your body to be the same. These things take time and, unfortunately, patience!
Remember not to be discouraged if you have not lost weight in a week and others have lost a lot of pounds. It could be, as said before, that you are losing fat and gaining muscle.
Good luck to all of you... and don't forget to have fun playing the game! :)

Another thing everyone should do, is take weekly body measurements, that tells you all you need to know, not a scale. Also weigh in the morning, before you eat or drink, drinks and foods may only be a 10th of a pound of fat in calories, but they have physical weight too. Terri, I'm glad to see your confidence. That's how I started, It was Thanksgiving 2004 and I was like, this is it my peak. The next day I never ate bad again. If you DDR a whole lot, 140 pounds in a year is definetly possible. So good luck to that, and remember to eat right, it's hard to face how much we actually eat, when I did, I couldn't believe it.

I've always had "man-legs". They were huge, thick, and my calves looked horrible! My bone was in the front and my large calf muscles were far out in the back. Agh! It was always so embarassing to wear shorts and skirts. =(

I played DDR for 3 months with no results in my legs. After one week of playing break down on standard for a few hours each day, my legs were toned to perfection! I didn't even realize it, and when I did, I put on a skirt right away and took a long walk outside. =] Yay!

I lost 10 lbs over 2 years, which is a bit strange! I've been eating right, DDRing a few times a week, and walking around the block almost everyday. Either way, I used to be a size 18 in jeans, now I'm a 9. What I've discovered: the lbs doesn't matter! :)

I just realized I haven't filled you all in on my progress in a while! Here goes, as of today...

179!

From 240 in August to 179, I am almost done. Almost down to 160. I met a great girl last week who I am compatible as hell with, and am being hardcore hit on by women again for the first time in about 3 years. It's absolutely amazing.

A lot has happened in the last 6 months since I started dieting, exercising, and just getting in touch with my old self. I know it sounds corny, but it's true. 1-2 more months, and my diet will be done I think. It's been fun folks.

I'd ask about buying slim fast at stores but err...who i live with would think it's a little weird and say "YOU DO NOT NEED IT!" but I think I do..not badly but just to burn some more off. Well I'm gonna get up and go play DDR...hoping I get to lose some pounds. I'm gonna be so tired...atleast tomorrow is the last day of the week that I have school. =) My braces are coming off tomorrow, too. :) Getting signed out...no english! yayy. ok i am getting off subject so i am gonna go now. i'm gonna go on standard even if i suck, haha. I'll try to keep this updated on how I'm doing. ok well wish me luck, as i do to you all!! Later!!

Hi everybody!
I just spent ages reading this post, it is great. ADAM WELL DONE, you are an example.

Here goes my story:

I put on quite a lot of weight recently cos of my final accountancy exams, keep eating sugary foods all the time. I am now 174 pounds and I am 5ft7 so I am feeling quite uncomfortable. I love playing DDR but I havent had the time until now, and I've just ordered a gorgeous looking metal pad which costs around £88 delivered (bargain). My goal is to go down to 133 pounds so like some of you did I will try to post updates.

By the way, I am an Atkins believer, I was eating that way for half a year and felt fab, lots of energy, and it is not just bacon I had (not to keen on bacon), in fact I had lots of vegs, chicken, fish and eggs, some fruit and minimal amounts of carbs (20-40gms a day). I always had problems with my weight and this diet has worked wonders for me. I got married last year after losing an amazing 45 pounds and never felt deprived or hungry, I got my dream dress on an UK size 10 (used to be 16) and have wonderful pictures, and for the first time on my life I wore a bikini on my honeymoon and felt thin and sexy.

If you read any of the books they explain how excess sugar totally messes your body, and yes, I did this to myself and I am not proud of it, I wish I had carried on my low carb lifestyle... So for me DDR and Atkins are a go and I start tomorrow, will keep you posted.

Good luck to everybody

please dont do atkins, i posted earlier that its very bad for you it cuts off oxygene to your brain, you can feel great for awhile but over a period of time youll be sorry , i just met a girl 2 days ago that works in my friends pizzeria that been doin atkins for a long time and now they found some tumors in her that the doctor says is related to the diet and she may has stomache cancer. your body needs carbs ! think about all those atkins desserts and candy bars taht are low carbs... if you really read wats its made of .. its all chemicals... you dont have to take my advice you can do atkins.. but if i know something that could help w/ someones health im gonna post it and if they dont want my advice but please... eat normal dont do any atkins south beach its not neccessary and 90 % of atkin diets gain all there wieght back plus more.. dont get me wrong... you can lose ALOT of weight in atkins but in the end is it gonna be worth the medical problems you run into ? and you can loose just as much weight by eating a healthy cereal , fruits, brown rice, whole wheat rice and pasta, chic fish ..and water lots of water

Weigh in in 1 day :D, I agree with Dana, Atkins is the quick fix fad. Even my dad tried that, he's not big to begin with, but he lost about 20 pounds and gained back 30 within 2 months after he quit it. You can't do a "diet" you have to do a change of lifestyle, my eating 1200-1500 calories a day isn't a diet, it's my lifestyle now. Oh and I have now lost 1 and a half inches off what's left of my waist!!! Almost flat lol, another 2 or 3 weeks. Hmm, if you go from Atkins, and start eating within a calorie range, it should be possible to keep that weight off. Anyway, keep up the good work people!

To those who might be eating very little, eating very little will slow down your metabolism, and you won't burn the calories as fast. Don't try to starve youself.

Hello hello, 2 weeks in (since I started back full throttle again), 162 2 weeks ago, 1 week ago 159, today......157! 5 Pounds in 2 weeks, and I don't have That much left to lose, so that's a pretty good percentage :), I have lost an inch and a half, and also I took a break 2 days this week, 1 day was an off day to rest, and another day me and a friend went out to this park and excersized the good ol fashion way, jog, pull ups, crunches, sit ups, leg lifts, flips on rings, which are really good for your triceps and abs apparently. My ultimate goal would be I say, 150 even. When I hit that, I will have lost my last 12 pounds. 7 to go! Good luck to everyone and don't give up! Remember scale doesn't tell but 40% of the truth, the rest is clothes.

Congrats to all who have lost weight and inches! I am going to commit myself to losing weight with DDR. I bought the DDR Extreme 2 and have really loved learning how to play. I love video games, so this is the right workout for me. I also tend to be a bit competitive, so I bought 2 dance mats. One for me, the other for the kids. I'm not too keen on scales. To me they are the enemy! ;-) Anyway, I am a size 14 and would love to get back in my size 7's. Kind of hard when you have 6 kids, work full time and have no time for exercise or eating right. Seems like I'm always eating on the go. No more of that. Anyway, thank you all for your inspiration. I will keep you updated on my progress and maybe eventually I will learn to become friends with the scale!

I have been playing dance dance for the past year. I'm not really big, but i want to drop a few pounds. I cant do it. I play DDR about 2 hours a day. I eat ok. and i do many after school sports. Its just no working. Should i be playing it more? Or eating better? Or join more sports?

My best bud is very heavy, and i want to help her out. So i bought her a ddr game and mat. She never uses it because it is to hard for her and she gets very tired. She still ways the same as she did before, 312 pounds. She is only 14 and has many problems. Her doctor says if she keeps this up when she is about 32 she will die. What should i do?

someone that is 312 lbs .... it can be unhealthy for then to do ddr becuase even a slow song can have then outta breath and energy ... ur best friend should start eating healthy first and weight will come off once she gets her wieght down a lil then she should slowly try ddr.. at her weight now.. it is possible to have a heart attack even on beginner mode becuase her body is not prepared for that

I am 38 years old and I am not "over weight" but could stand to loose 5 - 10 pounds. I began DDRx 8 days ago and I LOVE it. I probably look pretty silly jumping around but I have tried the gym, curves, and a home program and this makes me look forward to dancing. The music isn't what I would choose and maybe someday they will have more "oldies" or "classic rock" but for now I am so thankful I have found something I want to do. Instead of sitting on my a** at night I have been DDR-ing from 6:00 to about 7:30...and it is really great. I am a dancer (contra dancing) and this is a blast. Wish I started sooner. Hope I loose some weight and firm up.
I'll up date in a week. JD

Hi all! I am a 28 yr old single mom of three, who works full time so I dont have tons of free time, but I bought 2 DDR mats and games for my 11yr old twins, and am now as addicted as they are. We have been playing for about a week, and I have already lost 5 LBS, and plan on loosing more! Its so fun to play and learn with them, we loose track of time. Last night we were playing and before I knew it we had been playing non-stop for 4 hours!! I have to say to every parent out there, I was always looking for a way to spend more "fun" time with my kids and this is it! We all have a blast, we arent sitting around and when we mess up on a song all we can do is laugh together, its great!

J-Lynn - What is the "break down" that you are talking about? I run a few days a week but could really benefit from some leg shaping. If you could explain I would really appreciate it.

Amy - I just read your last post and I have to say I can really sympathize with you and the time/eating right issues you face. I only have three kids, but work allot and after Hurricane Katrina ended up moving 19 hrs away from anyone I know so feel I have to devote all my extra time to getting my kids through this. The DDR gives me the chance to get in that workout time without feeling guilty about being away from my kids! Keep me posted on your progress, it will be fun to watch since I am starting at a size 14 also!

I feel for you Jen, the hurricane/s really messed alot up. Anyway, "Break Down" is a song on DDR, a good one actually, can't remember what home mix it is on, probably Max 2.

CK - Yea, the hurricane made life a little more interesting, but hey life is all about challenges and overcoming them, so I just add it to my list of experiences and move on. I appreciate the info on the "break down" thing, I will have to find it.

I've been playing PIU for about a month now. However, my weight keeps on fluxuating a lot! When i began i weigh 185. 2 days ago i weigh 190. then, this morning i weigh 183. I don't know what's going on. My pants are a little loser, and i don't run out of breath as easily as before. Correct me if i am wrong, but is it best to do 30-1h in the morning to get your motabolism going and 30-1hr at night? Also, don't eat before you go to bed. It's difficult for me to do that because i like eating snacks.

Lily, I think she should start on very slow songs. If she's out of breath, stop; don't push it when her when she's first starting. let her body get use to it before moving on to a faster song. The first step is to get her body moving. She'd got to start somewhere or else she'll never lose the weight. Also, she's only 14. I don't think she'll have a heart attack. However, you should consult with a physician.

Reply
Hung

K Nguyen,
I think it's probably normal for your weight to fluxuate a lot. It's probably just water and whatnot. If you sweat a lot during a workout, you'll weigh less, but that doesn't mean you've "lost weight" so to speak. I keep track of my weight with bellygraph, and it tends to go up and down a lot. Thankfully, the trend has been for it to go down overall. You might want to try that, so you can keep track of how you're doing.
