Daniel,
Congratulations on finding the motivation to get started! You've got a great attitude and that's what's most important!
Replywhere can you get DDR besides the internet cause I'm in my third year of dance at school, but as far as snacking and the foods i eat I've let myself go. right now i weigh 150 lbs and most of it resides in the lower region of my body. I've tried everything to exercise, and eat right, but i never stick with it. any suggestions? How much does DDR cost if i was to get the stuff for ps2?
Replythanx for reading this. cant wait to hear suggestions on this.
You can buy DDR pretty anywhere that sells PS2 games, but I think it would be much cheaper for you to buy it on the internet. You should be able to find the game for about $30 on ebay. Depending on the type, the pad can cost anywhere between $10-$200. I HIGHLY reccommend getting one of the thick foam pads (~$25 I think they're called ignition pads or something) rather than the cheap $10 ones because the cheap ones will bunch up and slide around on you. Good luck.
ReplyAll my life i been overweight i was 5'5 and weight 190 pounds!!! But that all change as soon i brought DDR and change my life for ever...I use to play every day of the week and every 2 weeks or so i lost 12 to 10 pounds it was amazing. eileen,
Replyhows ur diet going??? and home much wieght have you lost now ?
Whats up all? I just thought i'd tell you guys that i quit playing DDR. I've lost 20 lb.s playing DDR and i really thank it for helping me do it. Ofcourse, i haven't quit trying to loose weight. I joined a gym with a good freind of mine. I'm already pretty strong, so i do the tredmil while he tries to bulk up.
ReplyI've also started a deit that my uncle created and lost 90+ lbs. on. No joke, 90 freaking pounds. The diet is a bowl of wheat cerial, or a power bar for brekfast..A salad or something for lunch..and whatever the hell you want for dinner. No sweats.
Again, i just want to thank this website for introduceing me to DDR, and i want to thank all of you guys who post here for giving me hope. Please, stay in there guys. I know its hard to not eat all you want, but next time your looking at a peice of chocolate cake, just ask yourself; What the hell has this peice of cake ever done for me?
Oh and Dana,
ReplyI realize that your being considerate for other people when your asking them how they've been doing and how much weight they've lost and how long it took..but dont look at this like a math problem. Dont say that if you work out for half an hour every day for 3 months you'll lose 30 lbs. I did that, i did all the math, and i saw no weight loss. it was when i started doing a little more than what was comforatable that i saw a weight loss. This isn't somehting you do for a month, or a year, and then go back to the way you were before. This is a lifetime change that you have to make. You'll never go back to the way you used to eat. And as pathetic as it might sound, its a really hard desision to make. But if you dont make that desision, you will be overweight the rest of your life. And there's nothing wrong with being overweight your whole life if that's what your comforatable with. It's your life people, live it like you want to.
I just created a website devoted to DDR weightloss, click on my name above to check it out!
Don't forget to comment when you get there!
Replyhey bessaroo
thats great you lost 12 lbs in a month.. were you playing ddr everyday ? and what were you eating
ReplyDana,
I quit playing DDR about 1/2 months ago because I was too busy with work. I've even stopped counting calories. Mostly now I just try to eat moderately, eating little bits of anything but not binging. I haven't lost any weight for the past month but I haven't gained it back either which gives me hope for when I eventually reach my target weight. I'm holding steady at 22 pounds right now.
I'll get back on the diet and DDR as soon as work slows down. I still have a long way to go, I'm 5'1" and still 195. But in the mean time I'm just enjoying being 22 pounds thinner.
And Dana, I agree with PlumpScott. The hardest part of losing weight was realizing that I could never eat the way I did before again (well maybe one day here and there but not on a regular basis). Bottom line you have to start eating a lot less, I don't know how to tell you to do this. I don't even know how I got myself to do this. Maybe you need to find some other guilty indulgence that's not food. Maybe you can binge on healthy food. Whatever it takes, I know that you already know this. DDR won't solve your problems if you don't stop binging.
And PLUMPSCOTT, Congratulations on your success! Going through losing with every one on this message board really helped me stay on course. It's wonderful that so many people are having success!
ReplyDana,
I eat 1200 calories a day and on weekends I'll eat more (1500-ish). Very hard for me to stay on a diet at the chinese buffett my family goes to after church on Sundays. I just eat 2 small plates instead of two big plates. Feel free to post your diet and exercising habits onto mysite :D
Replybessaroo,
Replyhow long do u play ddr .. and how often and how many calories do you aim 2 burn
Weee! I'vejust gotten my Cobalt Flux today! I've started playing Pump It Up a week ago after reading all the comments here. I am 5'5" and I weigh 190 LBS as of now. I was 183 a week ago when i started on my soft pads. I hope this is muscle weight ^_^.
When I first started, I was exhasted after 3 songs; the bridge on my feet were swollen and my tricepts were all worned out. Today, I've played atleast 3 hrs and barely feel any strain at all. I guess i am improving.
My goal is to lose 30-40 lbs. I've tried every diet and none of them seem to work. Hope this will be different. I love playing Pump It Up! Wish me luck.
Thanks for the motivation guys. I wouldn't have started playing PIU if i hadn't come across this website. Keep it up alls! Wish you guys lots of luck!
ReplyDana,
I think the key to this is not to concentrate too much on how long you "HAVE TO" play. Think of it as a game. Enjoy the game. Time passes by much quicker when you enjoy the game. I've never played DDR, but PIU is really fun for me. I like the song, the feeling when i Aced a song, and the challenge of unlocking a song in Arcade mode. Good Luck Dana!
Replyhey k nguy,
Replywat is pump it up ?
It's like DDR, but instead of up down left right, Pump it up uses 4 corners and 1 center. In Pump it up, you have the rhythm of the song to guide you. I've heard that DDR is more toward Trance. Pump it up is more toward pops and rocks and Korean-pops. you can check out a few movies here for PIU(Pump it up). http://media.www.gamestats.com/media/729/729797/vids_1.html
ReplyI've found a very good site to watch Videos on PIU. http://www.pumphavenftp.com/pump/video Check it out ^_^.
ReplyDana, go to my site. I got just about anything you want to know and more. Just click on my name above.
K Nguyen, Does PUI have a calorie counter or a workout mode on it? I would go crazy if I didn't know how many calories I burnt. What kind of songs are on PUI?
ReplyI think pump it up lacks workout and calories counting mode. PIU has mostly rock remix(some old classics like beethoven), pop, and K-pop songs.
ReplyI weigh about 170. I have tried too many things to get thinner for the past couple years. Nothing has ever worked. I just got a DDR a couple months ago and i'm on standard. I haven't seen any results. I cannot diet, or work out.. I have a very busy schedule. So at home when I need a break how long would you reccommend playing ddr a day or every other day. I want to lose 20-25 pounds atleast. Any suggestions?
ReplyIf you can help me, thank you very much..

Hey, this place is great, I'm 19 (20 in April) and I just thought'd I'd share my experiences. I've been playing DDR for about 7 years lol with friends of mine, I own a mymybox metal home pad which is awesome. But a year and a half ago I got huge lol, I was 5'9 225 or so. After thanksgiving 2005 I think the next day, I decided I was going to lose it finally. So I researched everything I could about dieting. I combined that with DDR. I ended up eating anything I wanted (even pizza) as long as I stayed within 1200-1500 calories a day, and I would ddr about 4 hours a week on heavy (8-10 stars). I have been off and on lately, but I went from 225 to 162 in a year. 67 lbs in a year, and I was very off and on with ddr, but I havn't been playing much lately and havnt put a single pound back on. I'm starting up again to lose about 5 more pounds and then I'm good. Just thought I'd share that. It definetly works like a charm and it's fun. Adam, it's awesome reading your posts, I kept going to the next page to see your next weight loss. Grats man. Keep it up.
Replythats great ck that you lost all that weight and jouly you should do ddr for atleast an hour..i am in medical school and remember wat you eat is very important... you can work out all you want and if you dont eat right then you wont have success.. you have to diet and exercise to lose wieght... i have been losing wieght on the the ddr.. my fav games are ddrmax and ddrmax 2 for playstation and ddr utramix 3 for x box
ReplyThanks Dana, I was reading what you read about healthy eating, like I said, as long as I stayed within 1200 calories or so, I ate pretty much what I wanted, but a few things that helped me out were granola bars, I got addicted to them, and cereal. Cereal is healthy for you anyway and drink milk! It really does a body good lol. Also those 100 calorie snack packs are awesome snacks, and the extra lean hot pockets that are only 210 calories a piece. Just some helpful snacks that helped me. DDR is an amazing game, me and alot of my friends who play it started a group, we have a website and everything for our town, we have about 50 members that play ddr and we have tournaments and things too at the arcades.
ReplyJust an update since I keep talking so much lol, I started back up, and just completed 2 hours of dance time! Starting weight 162 as of today, I'll keep yall posted every sunday. That's another trick that helped me lose weight, never look at the scale everyday, do it once a week and you see big results easier. I do it ONLY on Sundays. Hope this helps.
ReplyHey, this may be the, like, stupidest Q ever, but what edition ddr should you buy if you're a total beginer???
ReplyHmm it doesn't really matter honestly, because they all have light, standard and heavy modes. I would either go with DDRmax, or DDr extreme 1.
ReplyOwww ok, I just had to neosporin my foot lol, foot wasn't ready for that kind of workout just yet, I just went to workout mode on DDRMax1 and setup a goal of 1000 Calories, on normal setting, and played 8-10 footers, on the game clock I played for 1 hour 5 minutes of dance, and burned 1000 Calories, going to see how much 1000 cal. a day affects weight loss as opposed to say 300-600.
ReplyI've read that the built-in calorie counter is really inaccurate. Burning 1000 calories in one hour, even on 8-10 footers sounds a bit unreasonable don't you think?
Reply"on the game clock I played for 1 hour 5 minutes of [dancing]"
Reply1h 5 mintues of dancing can mean anything... If he plays a really hard song and then rest a minute or 2... that minute or 2 doesn't count on his dance clock; that means he could have actually been training for 2 hrs+. If you continuously sprint for 1h 5minutes, i think it's possible to reach 1000 cal.
Hey! I just turned 19 and I bought DDR Extreme 2 last week... Ive been playing for about an hour a day and Ive mixed it in with drinking Slimfast Shakes. One for breakfast and one for lunch. Im 6 ft. tall and weigh 250 lbs. but I lost 10 lbs in just one week!! Im really excited and happy to see something that works. Ive even built up stamina, I used to be huffing and puffing after the first few songs, but I played my usual hour today and felt perfectly fine! Not only that, but Ive gotten really good at it... I started last week and Im already moving my way into the standard mode. I cant wait to lose more weight ^_^ . And a side note... Adam, I love reading your posts on your progress, theyre very motivating! Keep up the good work, I know I will!
Replyddr is awesome when i went to my friends house i playing it and i was awful at it but i couldnt stop playing and i was playing the whole time i was there but then i had to go home and then i was sad but then a friend that i have moved by me like a year ago i think and she has ddr and she brought it over to my house and i was playing and then i got addicted and i ask her if i can borrow it and i didnt want to give it back to her lol yeah but like after a month i gave it back to her and before i started playing i was 175lb. but after that month i loss 12 lb. so i asked my parents if i can buy it and they let me and i just bought it a few weeks ago its ddr extreme 2 and i love it!! and now i weigh 158 lb. just from a video game i dont know what i would do if there wasnt ddr!!!=]]]]]]
Replyyes it is possible to burn 1000 calories in an hour .. it just depends on how hard your settings are.. if you have ddr max and you play the song paranoia or healing vision on 4 speed and heavy you can burn up to 40 calories 1 time remember it burns alot of calories becuase all the songs are diffrent speeds by doing this it tricks your body and doesnt let your body get used to one style so you will keep losing weight and burning calories.... also remember your weight affects calories too the more you weigh the more calories you will burn just like a car the bigger the engine the more gas it burns...
Replyck ,
Replyyou should lose about 1- 2 lbs a week by doing 1000 calories becuase a pound is equal to 3500 calories but remember to give yourself 1 day during the week to rest... your body needs to recover.. otherwise you will run yourself down and end up not playin anymore... to much of anything is not good and remember to try to drink a gallon of water.. and eat healthy .. wat you eat is the key to losing weight you can work out all you want but if you dont eat right you wont lose weight.. and even if you do lose weight your body wont be as healthy or strong as it should be
Ah, I love this place lol, congrats uhh "=]" hehe, that's niec work. That's what I came around to figuring Dana, thanks for the thought :), I've been eating right for about a year and 3 months now. Ever since I was "Huge" I changed my entire lifestyle, I very rarely cross more than 1400 calories a day in food, on a typical day I don't cross 1200, and I drink water while I'm playing DDR, and when I get to 500 calories I get a glass of milk, it actually helps me finish the other 500. You're right though, I need a day off, I strength train a couple times a week and my arms are still sore so That makes sense. Just got ahead of myself, oh yeah my first weigh in on this site is Sunday and today I wore on a pair of jeans I couldn't get into LAST Sunday, lol. I bought them a month or so ago to help me get motivated to losing weight again. Got my stamina to beat Paranoia survivor 270 back :) ...Adam can't "weight" to hear another post from you.
ReplyI finished today and measured my stomache, which isn't that big actually, just a little bit of gut left I'm working on, but I lost half an inch in the last 6 days! That's enough drive to keep me going right there. "6000" calories, 6 days, plus a calorie defficiency, 2 days til weigh in.
ReplyI've been dancing for more than 2 weeks and i didn't lose a pound. I dance around 2-4 hrs a day and yet, haven't shed a single pound. I think i might go back to atkins and keep on dancing till i am at a desireable weight. I lost 25 lbs with atkins but couldn't keep it off. I don't know. i am at a dilemma here. Anyone has any idea why i am not losing the weight? Maybe i have low motabolism. Throughout my adult life, i've been consistantly weigh about 185ish. I can't take off the extra pound as easily. Should i keep on dancing and eating normal or should i go on atkins as well?
ReplyDo you feel better even though you haven't lost weight? Maybe you're gaining it in muscle. I have an online journal where I keep track of all the weight I've lost using DDR, and it hasn't really gone down that much either. I feel a lot more healthier though. Atkins is just a fad. Exercise and diet aren't.
ReplyHe's right, Atkins isn't permenent, "diet"s are a way of life. Maybe it is all muscle, or maybe you are eating more than you are burning, (it happens easily if you don't watch your calories) I use to do that all the time. You just have to be careful about what you eat, stick around 1400 calories a day and play DDR and I guarantee you should lose poundage. Alas weight loss isn't always in the scale, so don't be discouraged.
ReplyI do feel better. I eat about 1500ish cal per day. I eat many small meals. How long does this muscle building period lasts and how long till i see some weight lost? Thanks guys.
