Dance Dance Revolution Weight Loss

GetUpMove.com: "This is Tanya Jessen's story of how she lost 95lbs, not through conventional diet and exercise but by playing the video game, Dance Dance Revolution (DDR). Tanya started playing DDR 4 years ago when she was 17 and enjoyed it so much that it became a regular activity. Through sharing her weight loss story, Tanya hopes to tell people that losing weight can be easy and fun by choosing an activity that fits in with your lifestyle. Tanya is working with RedOctane to educate Americans about a fun new way to lose weight while using an Ignition(tm) Dance Pad."

Hello everyone... I am much older than everyone I have been reading about on this site who have been using DDR to lose weight.. I read about the DDR on a weight watchers site.. someone had used it to get her exercise in. I got my pad about the first of December and I have been going 30mins to an hour about 3 times a day and I have lost weight about 8 lbs I am sure.. I am not on the scale everyday, but I can tell I am losing weight from the way my clothes are fitting. I had been walking 30 mins a day, but the weather had gotten cold. I am also watching want I am eating and I just feel I will continue to lose. The dancing on the DDR is so much fun and easy to do.

My sister's boyfriend got a new slim ps2 for christmas and gave his regular one to my sister (his gf), but with his new ps2 he got the dance dance revolution (ddr) game, I'm not sure which version, but has a number 2 in the name. But I started playing it today from around 11:30 to 1:30, I took a 1/2 break at around 12:30, and I've been playing nothing but standard and heavy because I've played this game a lot before at the arcade. This game is so much fun. Not only is it fun for you, but also good for you. I'd wish they have more of these kind of games in the arcardes for kids to play and it wouldn't be a bad idea for schools to invest in a few of these for their school to have for an activity. My former highschool was trying to have a healthier lunch program and instead of having pop they have vending machines with more sport drink-types and also bottled water and if they would invest in some of these DDR aracde machines (i'd say about 2 or 3 of them with 2 people per machine can play) then that would be a lot better. I'll probably be playing this game very often since there's really nothing else to do around here.

i think DDR is very effective! I went to mississippi for two weeks one time and the only thing to do was go to this arcade! Then my cousin got me into DDr (i was sceptical at first) but i lost 5 pounds over the course of two weeks!

Hello everyone...

My son just received the new DDR Mario Mix for his Nientendo Game Cube this Christmas. We've been fighting over who gets to play it next...lol I love that you can set up the profiles in the workout mode and that no matter what area you are in you can still have it tracking your calories. There is a story mode so it feels that much less like excercise. I have seen all the success stories and the news articles and I am hoping and praying that it will help me (need to lose about 95lbs) and my son (needs to lose about 40)!! We're really excited. I had purchased an easyshaper a while back but all its doing is collecting dust. Maybe with DDR as cardio and the easyshaper as toning etc I can get in to shape even though round is a shape. LOL

Wish us luck!! and Best wishes to those who already have success!

I got my DDR yesterday and Im following this trend. I burned off 600 today, That way I could treat myself to DQ this evening. I really like my DDRMAX2. It's really weird, Im NEVER hungry. The first time I ate today was around 5:00pm and I noticed that dinner was my first meal. Yes- I know...I need to eat more. Im drinking a'plenty. Im thinking of trading max2 for DDR Extreme2- anyone think I should do that. Max2 has some good songs on it. In case anyone wants to know I am 5'7, Female, 17 years old and 280lbs. Yep, I really need DDR.

Hey Adam, I have to say what you have done is amazing, I bought DDR for the same purpose this time last year, but got lazy unfortunately, but since I need to lose some weight because I want to get into the Airforce, I must ask, what kind of things were you eating? How long were you playing DDR a day?

Thanks
Jackie

Hi everyone! Wow, I'm probably the grandma of the group. My best friend and her teens do DDR so my 8-yr-old got addicted at her house. So, Santa brought my daughter a PS2 slim and a redoctane mat for Christmas. She and I have been having a BLAST doing DDR! I did check with my orthopedic surgeon today (I had both knees reconstructed about 18 years ago). He gave me the green light to DDR! I turned 40 this past May (stop laughing! It's not THAT old!) and stay-home moms need a fun exercise source too. Crap, I can't wait for her to go back to school so I can have the dance mat all to myself. Have a great, and healthy New Year everyone!

Hi Jackie, thanks for the kind words. To answer your question, I used to play DDR for about an hour a day, 4 times a week (M, Tue, Wed, Thur), but I have really gotten burned out on it, and have decided to opt for running outside instead nowadays during the same timeframe. Needless to say, DDR helped me get back into shape to be ABLE to run outside.

As far as what I'm eating, an average day goes like this. Coffee and dry Kashi GoLean Crunch for breakfast. Three bean salad for lunch with a diet coke. Boca Chicken Patty and cottage cheese for dinner. When I go to a restaurant I go for a grilled chicken item or fish, and always avoid potato products (fries, baked potatoes, etc.) I'll either get vegetables or fruit as a replacement. It's not a tough diet to follow and keeps you full. Also, you can add yogurt to the diet as a snack, which I feel helps sometimes.

I was *240* lbs. on August 24, 2005. I weigh *189* as of this morning (December 30, 2005). I'm going to my old office today to have lunch with a friend, I can't wait to see what they have to say.

Take care and good luck. Let me know how you all are doing as well.

Adam

Hullo,
I've had the DDR for almost two years but my pad broke down few months ago.
Anyway, on Friday I bought a new pad, and I started practicing yesterday.
My knee is killing me right now, but I won't stop jumping. I'm 17 years old, and I've been going to the gym since I was 14 (I'm sick of it). I've always been fit, but I'm quite chubby (5'5'' and almost 140). I want to lose 20-30 pounds.
As my progress goes on, I'll keep you posted. It's amazing to find a place like this. There's a lot o support here:)

Hello everyone, this is my first time viewing this website and i have to say everyone has a very inspiring story. For me, i first starting playing ddr christmas of '03. It was such a fun time and all of my friends would come over every night and we would play 3 to 5 hours at a time. I had always been a little overweight, but i was happily shocked when i had lost 10 pounds in under a month so effortlessly, just from playing that game. I am confident to anyone who wants to know a good regimen on how to lose the extra weight that you should just stick to these rules:
1) Eat a few small meals a day, adding up to around 1300 to 1500 calories a day, low in saturated fat.
2) Play ddr, depending on the difficulty level, from 45 minutes to an hour and a half 5 to 6 days a week. That's really all you need, any more and you may overexert yourself.
3) Add light weight training to your regimen, 2 to 3 days a week.
That's seriously all you need to do, i promise you, this is exactly what i did after i realized that this game was helping me lose weight, and i lost 20 lbs in a month and have kept it off for the last year and a half. i hope this has helped everyone :)

Hey yall. I got ddrmax2 and some dancepads for christmas.it is extremely cool. I can do doubles and a couple of standard songs pretty good. almost on heavy and i am feeling great doing it. it seems the more you play the more energy you have. I can play this game nonstop easily if i dont quit for like an hour. take like a ten second break every five songs for a bit of water and rest and your good for hours. its awesome. congrats to all.

If you're concerned about the high impact, get a padded dance mat. the redoctane Ignition pad is the best around. It helps soo much! you can jump easier and there is no pain. Pain went away and i didnt even know i hurt!

try it out.

I never have much problem with pain. If you have a cheap, crappy pad like mine ($20.00). Try hitting your whole foot on the arrow and just not your toes. That will help on your calves getting all cramped. If you have problems with the arches in your feet getting cramped try bending your knee just a tad when you play. I did have problems with my arch getting sore and thats what I did.

I've had this game for a little longer than a week and I've lost 5lbs. No dieting till' yesterday. It's amazing how fast you can burn like 600 calories.

I've had DDRmax2 and I think I like the DDR eXtreme better. Because with DDRmax2 I was always looking at my time and the calorie meter (which makes me stressed and tense). Extreme doesn't show you the results till' the end of the game and you have to completely exit to see how many overall calories burned. Tension levels have something to do with weight. If you're real tense, you can't lose.

Yesterday I amazed myself. I usually average about 14 calories a song. Yesterday I was averaging 18 calories a song. How many calories do you all average a song?

Sorry for the long rant...You guys a doing great and I wish you the best on your weight loss. God Bless y'all.

Yeah, I recently got DDR.

Heh, to me it seems hard. But that's because I've been playing it sparingly. For the first five days of getting it, I played it nonstop, but then I went on vacation for about 8 days, and now I'm trying to get back into DDR.

I'm 115 pounds, I think (but I just now weighed myself, and it says I'm 109... It must be broken or something. Three weeks ago I was 116. o_O) and that might be healthy, but I'm really short. 4'11". So I basically need to lose about 10 pounds to look fit.

I plan to play everyday for an hour. But I'm still stuck on a certain level... Sigh. It sort of deters me to play because I can't beat it.

lv2beasaham, you are not the oldest person playing on DDR.. I am over 40 and I have been playing and exercising on it now for over a month since I got it and I can tell that I am losing and having fun at the same time... remember age is only a number, keep up the good work everyone and have fun.

I finally got a PS2 and the ddr extreme2. LOVE it. I just bought the pad that didn't need a console to play (wanted to test it out b4 splurging) before and it made me HURT. I got the redoctane ignition padded dance pad this time and it's great on my calves. Just FYI.

I'm still exploring the ddr and playing on beginner - which I find hard enough for now (I'm 3 days into it).

Those of you who say you're playing for an hour or two...are you playing straight through or do you take small breaks? Also, the songs last less than 1 minute 30 seconds each and there seems to be a lot of down tim even if you go for an hour straight.

carla,
eat normal healthy food. no fried or fast foods or any junk... and you have go eat a mixture of things other wise you will get sick of the same thing all the time and ur diet will not last long

breakfast
fruit... cereal ( raisen brain, smart start, oatmeal, any cereal that is is junk cereal) No cocoa pebbles or anything like that ... u can half a bagel w/ penut butter

lunch and dinner
salads.. turkey sandwhich tuna w/ low fat mayo grill chic any fish and seafood brown rice whole wheat pasta weight watcher frozen dinners w/ salads lean meat w/ veggies chicken fajita's are low fat

snacks
sugar free jello, fat free pudding, pretzels, cottage cheese w/ fruit, weight watcher frozen desserts, fruit, u can bake apples w/ cinnamon

u can also go to ww.google.com and type in low fat foods and snacks and see wat is says

and wat ever you do.. do not cut out carbs.. cutting out carbs will make you lose wieght fast also but it is very dangerous..i am in medical school and cutting out carbs cuts out oxygene to your brain ur oxygene to your brain comes from carbs and you can also get kidney stones and rot ur stomache '

do the diet that i told.. eat all diff kinds of healthy stuff i day a week allow your self one cheat meal try 2 make ur cheat for breakfast or lunch it will give u more time 2 burn it off

also drink alot of water and try to drink herbal teas too they are healthy for you and will cleanse your body out.. and do ddr for an hour is you can atleast 5 times a week

Carla,

The first month, I was playing everyday for an hour a day or more at the intermediate levels. I have since cut back to 3 times a week for about 1/2 hour each time.
I tried to do my best to eat about 1500 calories a day but wasn't too strict about it. I also made sure to drink as much water as I could everyday. That's it. Keep in mind I started at 215. I'm at 195 now so I still have a long way to go but I think I can stick to this.
Good luck with your weight loss goals.

bessaroo,
i aim to burn anywhere from 700 to about 1200 calories a day... the thing is i used to play on workout mode, but i didnt see any results. Now that im playing on game mode, i think you burn more calories because you can't hold back at all and say "oh ill just play for another 15 minutes', you havew to keep playing or you fail the lvl.
I dunno.. i just feel like im getting a better workout when i play on the game mode

I am a mother of 4. I am 38 years old and i've had up and down weight gain for a while. I saw this and bought it for my 8 year old daughter and I am so hooked. 8 months ago i was down to a size 6 and i'm up to a 12 :(
Hopefully this will do the trick to get my down to an 8 or lower :)
Good luck everyone

ive been reading everybodys posts over the past couple of days and i notice that a bunch of them say something similar: that youre hooked (which is awesome! ^^) and so that gets you to play a LOT of hours a day which would then equal a LOT of calories burned, yes?

And also, there was a post a couple pages back saying something about average cal burn per week subtract total cal intake (3500 cal = 1 pound) so say you eat roughly 1500 cal a day and play DDR 1 hour or more perday.. so say thats 1500 intake - 1000 cal burned = 500 cal that day?

So then is it that you have to burn more than your intake? Because ive been playing DDR for the past 3 weeks eating roughly 1500 cal and playing 1 hour or more so thats 700 - 1100 cal burned per day and ive only lost 1 pound, 2 at most! Am I doing something wrong? And im guessng that muscle mass takes much longer than 3 weeks to form... ? Im in highschool and asian so ive got that petite structure thing goin on, 5"2 and 129 lbs.. pounds blahh i dont know the measurement ^^;; and i hate being the largest one out of all my other asian friends..

Please and thanks on some help
- sorry if i sounded pushy or bossy or something on my post im a bit stressed from school work

Just bought my DDR yesterday. Did it for about 1 n a half hrs last night and an hour this morning and I am SORE! Did anybody else feel like me at the start? Also, I feel like I am working out so hard in beginner mode.
Also, which version would ya'll say has the best music?

I'd love to hear from any new moms who've used DDR to lose the baby weight. I have a lot to lose!

To the younger girls reading this a word of wisdom:
Don't yo-yo diet. It wrecks your metabolism so that by the time you reach mid twenties it is ten times harder to lose that weight.

It also stretches out your skin when your weight fluctuates. That elasticity only lasts so long.

I found this place by coincidence and let me tell you its great. You need to only read these to get really motivated. I have been dieting for a week now and doing an hour of DDR daily. It all started when I went and weighted myself and well I weighted 301 pounds. Seeing that made me think a lot and I realized it was time to make a change. So, I started a diet and doing DDR as an exercise and let me tell you that I feel great!!! I know its been only a week but thas how I feel. Im not hungry all the time plus im eating healthy and thats what counts. I will keep you all informed about how Im doing. And I have lost 4 pounds already. if I could give you an advice is that dont over do it. It takes time and pacience, just enjoy the game and eat right.

I've played DDRMAX2, Extreme and Extreme2. I can honestly say Extreme2 is the best. That is because I have eyetoy and I like watching myself dance :P. With extreme2, you can't do that in workout mode. Extreme2 does have some real good songs (and so does extreme). DDRExtreme gets my vote.

I finally bought me a good pad! $50 foam-insert-comfy-pad. I had the $20 cheap pad. The meniscus muscle in my knee was getting so sore. At one point I could barely walk on it, had to quit DDR for about 2 days. Then I got my foam pad and it does wonders for me.

I've lost about 10lbs since Jan. 5th. I just started dieting yesterday, I'll lose real fast since Im dieting now. My problem is I can either diet or exercise, it's hard for me to do both. What I did was get used to DDR and like exercising (now I do!) and then kick in diet mode.

Im going on a cruise with my family in March and Im trying to lose 30lbs by then. Hopefully I do. Lord knows cruises aren't good for ya. I gained 13lbs on my last cruise. They have DDR on the cruise ship, but Im not paying $2.00 for a two minute session. That's crazy.

Sorry for the ramble, check out my site! spaces.msn.com/members/realitygeek
