Through sharing her weight loss story, Tanya hopes to tell people that losing weight can be easy and fun by choosing an activity that fits in with your lifestyle. I just bought DDR Max 2 yesterday and a soft pad. I am currently 5'6 and weight 184 pounds. I love the game... it is so fun. I also love the fact that I burn so many calories. My ideal weight is 145 and I really hope to reach it by my birthday in june. I'll keep you guys updated. I'm planning on playing around 2 hours a day. Even though that is going to be hard with my 45 hour week work schedule.
Anyways... props to Adam. I read all your posts and I am so happy for you.
ReplyChristine just keep doing it and i believe you will shed off all those crappy pounds. and what people are telling me is eat HEALHY
Replyplease i hope someone can still help me with my post(the one before valentine)
Replypre teen,
Replyyou could probably lose 20 lbs in about 2 months if you do the ddr everyday and eat healthy... do not cut out carbs or any thing eat normal .. eat oatmeal, fruit, veggies, lean meat, chicken, fish, brown rice, whole wheat pasta... and you will lose alot of wieght... but as for the girl.. she should like you and want to be your gf for you.. not cause you lost 20lbs.. your still the same person whether you are 20 lbs heavier or thinner.. and track should help you lose weight also.. ohh and make sure you drink plenty of water..i try to drink a gallon of water a day.... also you can drink green tea w/ or w/out caffeine to help clean out your body.
pre teen,
Replyif you are still in school do not buy school lunch they i very high in fat and grease... bring a turkey sandwhich w/ lettuce tomatoe onion low fat mayo or mustard on a whole wheat roll or bread.. u can bring bottle water and some fruit
Dana,
Sorry it took me so long to respond, I don't get a chance to go online very often. It actually took me 6 weeks to lose the 15 pounds (sorry I exaggerated a little) The first 10 pounds came off the first 2 weeks, since then I've been losing 1-2 pounds a week.
I started off drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. (This was easy because DDR made me very thirsty)
The funny thing was, DDR made me LESS hungry, so I didn't have too much trouble keeping my calorie intake between 1200-1700 calories a day.
About once a week, I let myself have a splurge day where I eat about 2500 calories a day. My splurge days aren't planned, I take them whenever I really really need one. And I don't let myself feel guilty for them, I think of them as well earned rewards.
One other major thing that's helped me other than DDR is my diet diary (it's a book full of worksheet calorie tables that I can fill in every day). It sounds silly, but having to write down everything I eat has really has helped me. Often times I didn't eat something I really craved because I didn't want to ruin my perfect track record for the week! It also gives you something track your progress so you can look back and be proud of how much you've done. I highly reaccommend that everyone try the diet diary!
I went to this website: http://nutrition.about.com/library/bl_nutrition_guide.htm
and calculated exactly how many calories I needed to eat each day to lose 1 pound a week. It's nice because it tells you eaxactly:
-how many calories you need to eat to lose one pound a week.
-how many calories you need to eat to GAIN one pound a week.
-How many calories you need to eat to lose one pound a week with 30 min or 1 hr of exercise.
-How many calories need to eat each day to maintain your target weight.
I printed this information out and stapled it to my diary. It's really helped me because seeing these counts just makes everything so much more real and tangible.
It was really important for me that I select foods that I loved eating (beefy noodle soup, lean cuisine lasagna, all types of meat (even beef in moderation), jello, popsicles) Whenever I eat healthy foods that don't taste good, I end up feeling jipped and it puts me in a bad mood. End result: I don't stay on the diet. I try to eat 1500 calories a day but every single calorie has to be delicious. I try to squeeze in something really sinful at the end of each day to reward myself. For me it's a McDonald's ice cream cone. (They're only 150 calories per 90 gram serving! The catch is, 90g is only about half the amount of ice cream of what they usually give you. So I always ask that they only give me half as much ice cream)
About how I play DDR, I've been playing workout mode on standard setting at about 15 calories per song. This amounts to about 250-300 calories per half hour of playing time. I don't think it's the amount of time so much as it is how many calories you've burned. Playing a half hour on a really light setting is obviously going to burn fewer calories than playing half an hour on a really intense setting!
I like to subtract these calories that I've burned off my my daily totals in my diet diary so that I can actually see how much of a diffrence it's making. (Every little but of motivation counts!)
I hope this response is helpful for you Dana! Great job getting started on DDR. You should be very proud of yourself, it's a HUGE step. And don't worry the weight will ALL come off in a few months if you just keep to it.
Please keep me updated on your progress!
Eileen
Replyall of you that do ddr ... how much weight did you lose in the first 2 weeks ???
ReplyI'm overweight for my age and height and I wanted to lose about 35-40lbs on DDR. I was wandering how long I should play a day and what kind of drinks are healthy to drink. I would drink water when playing, but what about other drinks? Things to drink when you're not exercising and such. I'm 15 and I think I'm going to go with dana on not eating the school lunches anymore. If you watch the movie Supersize Me, they have a small part about school lunches.
ReplyAnd to pre-teen a girl should like you for who you are not what you look like. I have a girlfriend now and really love her and I'm sure she loves me, too.
im 5'1, & was 121 lbs two weeks ago. so yeah, i've been playing this game every night for like.. half an hour TOPS (w/ the right diet, im not starving myself or anything), & i've already lost 7 lbs! it still doesnt make sense to me, all i hafta say is that this game's amazing
Replymorgan, im 15 too. i feel ya.
okay so for your lunch dilemma: ive been doing this eating lunches from + eating school lunches combo thing for like a year. then eating again at home. that's 3 lunches. plus no exercise & excessive amts of sleep. that's how i gained weight. DONT EAT SCHOOL FOODS! even though they're freaking tempting & good, they're also freaking fatning. it's all like pizza, fries, cookies, churros, chips, american-chinese food, BLAH. dude NO! stay away from it. it took a week for me to get used to just bringing school lunches & refraining from buying school lunches. (pathetic i know) for lunch i bring water, fruit&nut granola bar, fruit jelly snack things (2 of em, but i share w/ ppl), & that carb select powerbar thing. so yeah, it may not seem like much for a lunch but you're body gets used to it after eating just that for a week or so. & im doing this thing now where if i go back to my eating lunch + eating school lunches, have like a chocolate bar, or im going out to eat w/ my friends later (cuz everyone knows that when friends go out to eat, its always junk food), i skip a meal & just eat fruits. plus i dont eat after 5. morgan, im 15 too. i feel ya.

so im looking at all these stories right, & everyone's like "YEAAAHH I EXERCISE LIKE FOR 357 HOURS A DAY, 29 DAYS A WEEK! & IVE LOST 4,242 LBS!" which is totally admirable but iono we freaking highschoolers w/ honors & ap classes dont have time for that. so yeah, i think 30 minutes is good if you're taking crazy classes. oh yeah, i add step moves b/c i still suck at the game & i wanna lose more weight in the little time i have to exercise. basically, just jump around like an idiot on the pad while trying to get them right. & guess whattt... like 5 ppl told me that i lost fat in my face, plus hey, guys are poking & picking me up n' stuff. wow & its only been 2 weeks! =D i was laying in bed yesterday n' yeah, i couldnt help notice how much my back is more toned
i hope i stick to this diet & exercise. ive tried other things but i always get lazy after the first week or two. gagh. i know one of the commenters said to not look at the game as a way to lose weight & just have fun, but wooww that's impossible for me.
Replywhoa some parts are written twice. woopz.
ReplyThanks Deborah. I'm a guy so I wouldn't know about guys trying to pick me up. :) But I already have a gf. Yeah, I might be able to play for a couple hours a day. I don't get a lot homework right now. I'm also going to try and start taking my lunch. Lunch food is kinda scary now. Hopefully I can stick to it and lose some weight. I'm about 5'8 or 5'9. I'm not quite sure. I weigh about 180lbs.
ReplyDana,
(I submitted this response a few hours ago but for some reason it hasn't posted so I'm submitting it again. I apologize if it gets posted twice!)
Sorry for the late response, I don't get a chance to go online very often. It actually took me 6 weeks to lose 15 pounds (Sorry, I exaggerated a little!). The first 10 pounds came off the first two weeks. After that I lost about a pound or two a week.
I started off drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. This was easy because DDR made me very thirsty!

Another major thing that's helped me other than DDR is my diet diary. It's a book with worksheets that allow me to record what I eat everyday. I think you can get them in the diet section of any bookstore. For some reason, having to write down what I eat makes me eat a lot less. Sometimes I wouldn't eat something I really craved just because I didn't want to ruin my perfect track record for the week. It also helps to be able to see the progress you've made on a day by day basis. It gives you sometyhing to look back on and be proud of.
EVERYONE WHOSE ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW LONG IT"S GOING TO TAKE TO LOSE "X" # OF POUNDS SHOULD GO TO THIS WEBSITE:
http://nutrition.about.com/library/bl_nutrition_guide.htm
It calculates EXACTLY how many calories you need to eat to:
-Lose 1 pound a week.
-Gain one pound a week.
-Lose one pound a week w/ 30 min exercise a day.
-Lose one pound a week w/ 1 hr exercise a day.
-How much you need to eat to maintain your target weight.
Seeing these counts just makes your goals more tangible, at least it did for me.
Selecting foods that I loved eating was also really important (meat, beefy noodle soup, jello, popsicles) Every one of my daily 1500 calories has to TASTE good to me. Eating healthy foods that don't taste good puts me in a really bad mood. End result: I don't stay on the diet. I try to squeeze in something really sinful at the end of each day like a McDonald's ice cream cone. (They only have 150 calories per 90g serving, the catch is this is only about half the ice cream they normally give you. I I always ask them to only give me half as much)
About how I play DDR: I play the Work Out Mode on the Standard setting at about 15 calories per song. This amounts to about 250-300 calories per half hour. I play for about half an hour to and hour a day. I've been losing 1-2 pounds a week doing this. Do that adds up to 4-8 pouns a month .... so 52-104 pounds a year (hopefully!). I don't really think the total time playing is as important as how many calories you've burned. Playing half an hour on a really light setting is obviously going to burn fewer calories than playing half an hour on a reavy setting.
The most important thing I've come to see is that I really need to be patient. In the past I've always dieted to the extreme because I wanted to see results fast. But this made me miserable and I could never stay on the diet. Moderate dieting and exercise will do the trick if you're just patient. It actually does add up over time if you're exercising and eating well. I PROMISE.
I hope this response helps. Starting on DDR is a huge step. Everyone should be very proud. Don't worry, ALL the weight will come off in time. Just be patient!

Replyi just wanted to tell you guys and girls it's been like frickin 4 days and i feel so good. i like feel like i could do more things like clean my room (for once). oh and DANA your so frickin right yesterday i was just walking my dog (i get hyper after playing ddr for like 3.5 hours) you know getting the air in my lungs and then I was like 5-blocks down i get a frickin text message saying do you want to go out!!! i said yes and the girl that likes me she's so frickin cute she send a picture of her she's so HOT!!! so thats all good. oh and IM GONNA STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM LUNCH FOODS(DESPITE THER SO FRICKING GOOD).oh to all you that are stickin to the good things your so frickin cool. so frickin cool. and DANA im gonna update you in two frickin weeks how much fat i lose. PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Replyok guys i used to be really thin but then i gained alot of wieght becuase i was taking all those stackers and fat burners w/ ephedra in them and i was in great shape but i almost had a heart attack from all the energy pills so i stopped takin them, stopped working out and stopped eating good. BUT when i was in great shape this is wat i was doing... I was taking kickboxing 3 nights a week karate 2 nights a week and going 2 the gym ... but what you eat is extremely important... you can work out all you want.. but if you dont eat right you will not get as good results...
breakfast u can have....
fruit... cereals such as raisen bran.. smart start .. whole wheat puff rice.. oatmeal.. (any cereal thats healthy.. not junk cereal ) toast w/ penut butter.. or pumpkin butter (it has no fat and almost no calories) u can make egg white omlettes w/ low fat cheese and veggies.. orange juice.. tea.. and water is very important

ReplyDana's diet sounds like an excellent full proof way to lose weight! But I personally find it difficult to stick to a strict regiment of such healthy foods.
What's really been working for me so far is portion control and calorie counting. Everyday I write down everything I eat in a journal and I try to keep my calorie count under 1500 calories. (You can buy one of those books that tell you how many calories are in most every type of food at any bookstore) Then I play DDR for 30 min - 1 hr everyday. That's it! Oh, and I also take a daily vitamin everyday.
Of course you want to eat as much variety and fruits and veggies as possible because they're better for you and they fill you up more. But what I like best about portion control and calorie counting is that I can still eat all the foods I love and have been eating just as long as I do it in moderation. Just make sure you know exactly what the serving size is for what you're eating and make sure to document the calories accurately, because serving sizes are usually smaller than what you usually eat.
I've lost 16 pounds doing this so it does work as long as you do it right!
Hope this helps someone!
Eileen
(P.S Dana, I finally wrote a response to your post but yesterday but it didn't get posted until today. Just scroll up to read it.)
Replyhey eileen how long did it take for you to loose 16 lbs ?
ReplyPh@tkit,
I'm Asian too and I know it can be hard sticking to the online diets because all the foods at home are Asian foods that our parents buy!
Here's my advice for what it's worth:
-Try not to eat too much rice at one time. It was really easy for me to eat up to 3 bowls of rice sometimes when I was really hungry. Rice is good for you but it is also very high in calories. One bowl is enough per meal.
-From what I know of Korean food, most of the dishes are pretty light, unlike Chinese food! Try to eat more of the veggies and clear soups (you can eat lots of these). Seafood is also very good as long as its not cooked with too much oil. You know which foods have the most fat, just try to eat less of them.
-My opinion is that you can eat any type of meat so long as it's not too much. Try to eat a huge mouthful of rice or veggies for every bite of meat you have.
-Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, more if you can! (VERY IMPORTANT WATER HELPS YOU LOSE WEIGHT)
-If you can, try to find out how many calories are in the foods you eat. (I know this isn't easy with Asian foods, but you can try to look it up online) Try to keep yourself around 1500 calories per day or below if you can.
-I think if you do all the things above, you will definitely lose weight slowly over time. But if you excercise also it will come off much quicker! It doesn't have to be DDR, anything that makes your heart beat faster will do. Try to do some kind of excercise for 3 times a week for 30 minutes at a time (more if you can). It sounds like you're already pretty active so this probably won't be a problem for you.
Good luck Phatkid! Just do your best, if you make a mistake and eat a whole lot, it's okay! Just keep going, the weight will all come off in time!
Eileen
ReplyDana,
Scroll up, I wrote you a message yesterday that got posted late. It took me 7 weeks to lose 16 pounds, the first 1o pounds came off the first two weeks when I started drinking more water. Keep in mind that I started at 215 pounds so 10 pounds for me didn't make a huge difference, but I could definitely see it.

ReplyHey ddr-preteen ... I kno exactly why youd love to lose weight but dont rush. Losing pounds so fast... unless your OBESITY... like 10 pounds a week is very bad for your health (from wat ive hearD) Especially if your very young
ddr kid,
Reply10 lbs in one week is really not goig to happen. Theres no healthy way to go about losing that muchweight in one week. If your afraid of gaining alot of weight over the holidays, just watch what you eat. The main thing is not to eat in-between meals, thats what kills you on the holidays. like, doint eat dinner, and then have half of a pumpkin pie(which i was doing a couple of months ago). For some reason i thought that because i lost 15 lbs, i could go back to eating what i was eating..now ive gained 10 lbs of it back :(. I just have to go back to eating kashi and pb&j again.
pre teen ,

Reply3 - 7 hours a day is too much youll run ur self down and make yourself sick.. its not healthy
I used to be 160 pounds but then I lost about four pounds in two weeks, but I'm hassled with school work. I played about an hour a week and got this result, but I didn't have time for school work, therefore I stayed up late in the night to do it. This wasn't very good for my sleep. My dance mat isn't working most of the time; it doesn't obey my foot orders. I feel like giving up. Before I get another dance mat and sort out my school work problems does anyone have any suggestions of any heart-raising activities I have to do around the house? I can't go out, because I have to look after my little brother all the time. Help!!
ReplyI'm 5'4 and 127 ilbs. My parents think I should lose a bit of weight and stay in shape. So I asked for DDR. I just got it today for christmas [early present] and played it for atleast half the day! I love it. I was wondering though, if I play about..maybe 2 hours a day will it be possible for me to loose 17 pounds by July?
Everyone's stories on here hav inspired me to dedfinatly reach my goal :3
ReplyHi Jenn-
Reply127 lbs at 5'4" is a healthy weight, so don't feel badly about your weight as it is right now! DDR is very fun and a good way to get some exercise, but if I were you (and I know I am not) I wouldn't worry about the scale, just think about having fun, since you are at a healthy weight anyway. Getting in shape is more meaningful than a number on a scale anyway.
