Yahoo Financial News: The 12-week pilot study, led by Dr. Ken Fujioka, monitored weight and metabolic factors, such as insulin secretion, of the 100 men and women who participated in the Scripps Clinic "Grapefruit Diet" study. On average, participants who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost 3.6 pounds, while those who drank a serving of grapefruit juice three times a day lost 3.3 pounds. However, many patients in the study lost more than 10 pounds.

I would love to do the grapefruit diet but I hate eggs. Is there anything that can replace the eggs?

According to what I have read about this grapefruit diet you are not allowed to subsitue. I am just starting out. I have been on this for three days.. They say you will not loose for the first four days, Then on the 5th day supposedly you will have lost 5 pounds. Then there after 1 pound every two days. So I shall see what happens.

Dude, you seriously sound like you have some kind of mental problem. Or like you're around 9 years old and haven't yet grasped the idea of grammer or spelling.

Anyway, I am starting grapefruit diet tomorrow and I expect it to work as I've taken part in a low carb diet before and it was successful - this is basically similar, but with grapefruits added, which is awesome as I adore them :)

to lose on this grape fruit diet.taller women got it so much better to me.i am just in high heels etc around 5'5 only.and over weight.

so i will try this diet as i will not eat no more pork either make me gain too much weight over 21 years i heard from doc myself just three weeks ago.He say the grapefruit is a good idea little sugar and more fish chicken breast
too.brown rice or yellow rice.

Yeah, you know what makes people respect you even more than your height of weight? Your ability to speak English. Or at least express yourself in a quasi intelligent manner. You should spend the next 10 weeks on the phonics diet, and drop the carbohydrate count for now. Maybe then you'll coherently explain your venture through weight loss (which we're dying to hear about, of course)

I just finished my 12 days on and 2 days off and I am happy to say that I have lost 8 lbs and I had even been cheeting (not drinking the full amount of water and indulging in some mini mars bars and even had ice cream.) I am liking this diet!! I am on day one again, and I am hoping to not cheat this time around since I know the diet does work!

I have been on the diet for only 3 days and I have lost 5 pounds. I think that anytime you jump from really bad eating habits to doing something drastic like this diet; OF COURSE you are going to lose weight in the beginning. Then eventually it will slow down. I think it is just a matter of getting your insulin level where it needs to be and once it's there; your body will lose weight NORMALLY. Just an opinion...I have no MD but I am a diet queen and I am just going off of how my body responds.But it can help to get started on a diet regimine. Any type of low calorie diet is better than hamburgers and french fries:-)

I started the grapefruit diet today. I am nervous because I have been gaining rapid weight lately. I just transfered to a new school and this is the first time I have lived so far away from home. I am eating constantly I noticed, partially because I am bored. I know that is not an excuse. I am really hoping that the diet works. I am 20 years old, about 5'5 and 161 lbs. I have gained almost 30 pounds in the last year. Its so depressing. I also do not carry my weight really well, I look gross. Do you think this diet will work for me? I do not go to the gym, BUT I have alot of walking to do each day. I walk briskly about 7-10 minutes to each class...campus is big. I have anywhere from 2-5 classes a day.

Ok that's it. I am going out tomorrow morning to buy a bag of grapefruit and stock up on my bacon and eggs. This is the last day I am ever going to be fat. I weigh 192 pounds (87kg). And I am going to get down to 60kg(132pounds). I am 30 years old and feel 50 because I am so overweight. I know that underneath my double chin, back-fat, 2 spare tyres and saggy bum, lies a beautiful me. Since I do not have a group leader to report to every week about my weight loss, you guys out there are unfortunately going to have to listen to my reports on my weekly weight loss. Anyone joining me on this? Love to hear from you.

Ok, I said I would check back in a week with you guys, but couldn't wait...

Got my bacon and eggs and grapefruit this morning from the supermarket. Missed breakfast cos I went shopping but started at lunchtime with steak and salad of cucumber and yellow peppers. Delicious, but oh so filling! I feel like a stuffed turkey! Drank my water and thoroughly enjoyed my ruby grapefruit half! But I wonder if I will have any space for supper...

I am so motivated after reading everyone's comments and even got my mum to start it with me although she lives 500km's away. So we will be each other's support structure for as long as it takes to lose the extra weight. Will let you know how I am doing.

I WAS ON THE GRAPEFRUIT JUICE DIET FOR 5 MONTHS. I WENT FROM 230LBS TO 160LBS. THAT WAS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. NOW I HAVE LOST 20 MORE LBS BECAUSE I AM MORE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT I EAT. I WENT BACK ON THE G/F JUICE DIET ON SUNDAY, MARCH 3OTH B/C I WANT TO LOSE 20 MORE LBS AND I KNOW THE G/F DIET IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS FOR ME, TRUST ME I HAVE TRIED MANY. SO WHOEVER WANTS TO LOSE WEIGHT IT'S WORTH A SHOT AND IT'S NOT AS EXPENSIVE AS OTHER DIETS. GOOD LUCK AND I WILL COMMENT BACK IN 2 WEEKS. Can anyone help! Some webpages say you can eat cucumbers, carrots, lettuce and other web pages say to omit those for the grapefruit diet. Does anyone know whether I should be eating those or not?

I have a list of foods that you can have and you can not have. Cucumbers and Carrots,and lettuce are on the list that you can have. I just pulled this list up on Tuesday.

Wow, Vanessa, i cried when I read your post. You are me in a nutshell....if I am being honest then I have ut on well over 60 pounds in three years!!! Boy does that suck! I don't look in the mirror any more....I was so shocked when I caught myself in one not too long ago, that I turned to see who the heffer was blocking my view....it was ME!!!! A couple days later, I put on last years bathing suit, It almost didn't fit...ok it fit, but I was bustig out!!! I took pics from the front and the back---I couldn't breath when I saw the pics. I haven't been "seeing" myself. You would think that purchasing 16 - 18 clothes, would be a wakeup call.
Needless to say, I need to do something....Hard to believe, but I do exercise.....really doesn't matter if you are shoving garbage down your throat.
We have choices, I am chosing to make the right one. I am going to try this.

It works I swear by it I've lost that & more you have to really restrict yourself & you can not eat in between meals. I've done it after both of my children & I did it longer than ten days to lose more weight & it works. You will lose weight fast in that amount of time I have to tell you I also incorporated 30 minutes of exercise a day so I would see permanant results. Try running in place in front of the TV or dancing while th radio is on run around with the kids. I know sometimes you think you don't have the time or don't want to exercise but you can do it in front of the tv instead of sitting stand up & run in place. Good Luck

Ok, gonna give this diet a try as it sounds like it really works and definitly sounds like something I can stick to. Just a couple questions I haven't seen addressed though....
1. Can you have splenda on your grapefruit?
2. Can the bacon be turkey bacon or only pork? I don't mind pork, just can't always get it so want to find out what else I can have (other pork?, beef?) just in case I can't get it one week.
3. Crystal light okay? Or just water? How about diet soda?

The grapefruit juice diet is; that they give you a promise that in 2 and one half months you should have lost 52 pounds;but the secret is to follow it like a Bible. You must drink 64 ozs. of water dailiy, At any meal eat until you are full, You must eat the minimum listed at each meal,you can not eliminate anything from th diet, especially the bacon at breakfast and the salads. You must eat the bacon and salads. These combinations of food burn the fat,mitting one part of the combination will cause the whole thing not to work.
The grapefruit juice is important because it acts as a catalyst that starts the burning process. Don't add or reduce the amount of juice. Cut down on coffee,it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning process. Try to limit your coffee to 1 cup at meal time.
Don't eat between meals. Do not eat desserts, breads, and white vegetablels,or sweet potatoes. You may doulbe helpings of meat,salads,veggies.

Hi Everyone!
Today is DAY 1 of the grapefruit diet for me and I am so looking forward to losin gsome weight! My only problem is that I HATE eggs. I tried eating them scrambled his morning with a little bit of pepper and I just can't do it. Is there ANY way to substitute eggs or am I just going to have to gag on every bite? i need help i'm just wondering if you have to eat bacon that is pork or can you eat turkey bacon???? thats the only concern that i have and what about the tea limited to 1 glass per meal? do we HAVE to drink tea?? or is justt for those who cant stopp drinkking it???

Ok everyone, I am starting this diet in the morning. My question is this, is it ok or not to eat regular salad dressing? I have my bacon, eggs and juice all ready to go. Just wondering if i need to make the juice "lite" and have "fat free dressing". Thanks for any help, i really really need to lose weight.

I read an article in a health mag that stated "when your overweight fat is actually wrapped around your organs" I never thought about it like that and it scared me into action. I am very overweight and need to do something NOW!

OK! STATRED THE GF DIET THIS PAST TUE. AND I GOT ON THE SACLE TODAY WHICH IS FRIDAY. SO IN 4 DAYS I HAVE LOST 3 POUNDS. I HAVE NOT WORKED OUT YET! FIRST TWO DAYS WERE A LITTLE HARD BUT IT IS GETTING BETTER, I AM REALLY MOTIVATED NOW!

This diet really does work. It's really effective if you excercise along with it too. I went on it before and lost 40 pounds. I went from 180 to 140 in about 2 months. Now I'm about to go back on it because I wiegh 240 now so I'm going to do it all over again for about 4 months.

Hi all, been on the diet for exactly 14 days, lost about 14lbs in the first 8 or so days, but its stopped dead now. I've made no changes and my weight has remained the same. Not even a pound has dropped. I'm weighing myself everyday, with NEW scales.

So im backtracking seeing what ive eaten etc, where i may have gone wrong, but at the moment, seeing the way stay rigid is a bit disheartening.. will be back to update as ive got reservations as to how much you can actually loose with this so far.

My sister and I have both done this diet. It does work if you stick to it and not cheat at all!!! One bite messes up all the food chemistry if you eat what your not suppose to. You must have bacon for it to work. Also , you can have milk or tomato juice at night. If your not losing right away stick with it and all of a sudden you will start melting your fat away. I also had alot of energy and felt great. I just started this again yesterday. My sister even ate popcorn at night because on one of the diets it said you could. I didn't lose as much when I ate popcorn. Make sure your grapefruit juice is natural and no sugars.

hi i went on the grapefruit diet last year and dropped 2 dress sizes in around 2 or months! (i think i lost around 2 stone) im going back on it 2moro, as i have put the weight back on! i have tried, soup diets, weight watchers, slimming world and even the paul mckenna hypnotism diet and have found none of these have had the same effect!!
ino the grapefruit diet is short term, but as long as you dont eat loads of rubbish after (like i did) u shud only put a bit of weight on while u get used to eating a normal diet!
also for the VEGATARIANS or people who can't eat pork, i substituted allt the meat on the diet, with Quarn (sausages at breakfast and fillets at lunch and tea) as it is low in carbs high in protein...and it still worked! so give it a try!!
will be back on to update about how my 2nd time around goes..

so ive been on the diet for a week now and i have only lost 2 1/2 pounds!!! im a little dissapointed, but its better than nothing, and i havent been hungry since i started! its not coming off half as fast as the last time i did it, however i havent been excercizing at all, and spend most days infront of my computer working, so im not burning off many calories at all.
i sufferd headaches for the first few days so i had a few glasses of diet coke per day to get caffine, i am now only drinking diet caffine free drinks, so hopefully it might help the weight come off quicker this week!
last time i carried out this diet i only drank water, which makes me think helps more, but i was moving around more then so could ignore the headaches more!
hopefully this week will go better x x

I'm soooo desperate to lose weight! I lost like 100 pounds on another diet and put 35 back on! I don't want to gain the whole 100 back! So, I'm starting the gf diet tomorrow. I'm excited but a bit scared, because I don't want to fail! The diet says to take 2 days off, what if I don't want to take 2 days off? Can I just keep doing the diet? Or will it mess up the weight loss?

I just started the diet 2 days ago. I have about 2 glasses of juice or half a grapefruit a day depending on how many meals i have had. I alter it a bit, I never have time to make bacon so I have 1/4 cup chopped eggs from my work, then for lunch I have a grilled chicken salad with oil and vinegar and a grapefruit, then for dinner I have 2 lemon pepper chicken breasts. Today I will have the same.. I eat a lot of chicken.

So far I have lost a real 3 lbs, taking me from 173 in the morning to 170. My goal is 130 again! I gained 40 lbs in 8 months... WISH ME LUCK and I want to here everyone's progress as well. Good work everyone

Hi guys! My sister & I have started on the grapefruit diet today (26-08-2008) & we are both determined to follow it through.

We have both lost weight with weight watchers but have slowly regained it. We've also tried so many others like the cabbage soup diet, 3 day diet, 10 day diet etc... most of which were made up of vile combinations of pureed tomato & celery (bleeeech)! We never stuck with them because they were so damn restrictive & boring, not to mention tasting foul!

I love the fact that I still feel like I'm indulging, especially with bacon & butter but will hopefully be losing a substantial amount of weight at the same time. I don't mind grapefruit at all so that's a plus.

I am 5'2 (157cm) & weigh 96.2kg (212 pounds)

My sis is 5'3 (165cm) & weighs 78.6kg (173 pounds)

I will be back in 12 days with an update & good luck to everyone else who is either on or starting on this diet!

i weight 190 and want to get down to 150 how long do you think this will take. any tips from the people who have done this diet would help!! and when it says meat does it matter what kind...like breaded or anything.
