Yahoo Financial News: The 12-week pilot study, led by Dr. Ken Fujioka, monitored weight and metabolic factors, such as insulin secretion, of the 100 men and women who participated in the Scripps Clinic "Grapefruit Diet" study. On average, participants who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost 3.6 pounds, while those who drank a serving of grapefruit juice three times a day lost 3.3 pounds. However, many patients in the study lost more than 10 pounds.

Replyif u really wanna lose weight i have a home remedy my granma uses and it works take a pineapple peel it cut it into peices put it in a container then take cucumbers maybe 3 peel cut add it to container with pineapple add water to fill container let it sit for a day every day 3 times a day drink a glass outta that water weigh yourself before you start then weigh yourself at the end of the week tell me if it worked for you it tastes nasty but it workes

ReplyI am doing a project about the grapefruit diet for my health class. I am interested in know the straight goods- does it work? My task in the project is to critique it so I would like reasons why it does NOT work. Does it create a yo yo affect to your weight? Does it give you all the proper nutrients needed? Do you recommend it?
I would also be VERY thankful if anyone could share their knowledge about the author- who came up with the idea of the Grapefruit diet.
If anyone can help I would be very thankful. This would help me sooooooo much.

I am going to start the diet tommorow,and I am savoring the time I have left before I start it because I am a big Starbucks fan. I was wondering if the diet really can make you lose 10 lbs. in 10 days like it says. It will be my New Year look, the bad part is I am still a student so I have to bring it which is going to be hard anyway in 10 days I'll bring results.
ReplyIf you are on it seriously it works. If you sneak, and think it won't hurt it, you will fail. i have been on this many times over the years. Why, couse i get down to goal, then go back to carbs and horrible habits like the cakes that are always in the kitchen at work??? The grapefruit diet is the only reason that i have actually managed not to be huge!!! i do it for a few weeks and get back to a good weight. i have been on and off this diet for 9 years. Tt really does work, and i am suspicious that the Atkins and now South Beach diets were based on this because they control carbs. The grapefruit diet is a very old diet, and it is a low to no carb diet with grapefruit thrown in. This time i am using ocean spray's "Lite" ruby red grapefruit juice. It has 11 carbs per 8 oz instead of 36 in the regular. That is only 5.5 carbs per meal. Real GF is the best, but the labor induced cleaning it and mess is half the reason i fall off the diet. We all need fast and easy. So here are my secrets. I boil 10 eggs/cook up my bacon/and bring a large bottle of the "Lite" Ruby Red GF Juice and put them in the frig at work on Monday so that i have no excuse about the breakfast. Wendy's BLT salad/minus the cucumbers and croutons/ i throw them away before i sit to eat it, this is a huge salad, i force myself to eat it all, then i drink the GF Juice when i get back to work. For supper, green beans in butter and a meat, i eat until i am stuffed and top it off with the GF J that i have at home. Bedsnack, i drink my milk or eat a Dannon 3 carb yogart. I don't know if i should eat the yogart but it fills me up and has not slowed me down. I hate water, but I recently started to drink the rasberry flavor Dasani. It is carb free. So i can actually get 8 bottles down my throat! Now that i am older i am having a harder time with my metabolism too. So this time i am walking as fast as i can 3 miles a day during lunch 5 days a week (that is 35 minute) and i swim 1 mile a day freestyle (it takes me 45-55 minutes straight after work. I am a member at the Y. I know that you are thinking that is why i lose wieght, but it is not true. I just started this excersizing thing because i am approaching 49!! I have tried a million other things over the years. And once i tried this, it has been my only diet. Be faithful to your Grapefruit Diet and you will succeed. Incidently, i started it again last week, and i am at 5 lost lbs.

ReplyKathy: I don't know anything about the grapefruit diet, but I do know about feeding oneself for physique change, so I think I'm qualified to help.
Go ahead and eat the whole grapefruit. It will be more filling and not hurt your diet in any way. You should probably eat that before a meal, and then wait at least 5 minutes before eating. Maybe have some water to pack it down into your stomach. This is because the grapefruit will digest first, so you don't want it mixed up too much with the meats and veggies.
If you follow your diet as written, you're going to lose lots of weight in the first couple weeks. I'm talking like 10-15 pounds. Because it's almost a protein sparing modified fast you have planned. This is good. Just be sure to get plenty of sleep, like 8 hours each night. Otherwise your losses might stall out.
When you go back to eating other foods, do it slowly. Ramp up in glycemic index. Start with nuts, then fruits. Next legumes and whole grains. Finally you might be able to have some white stuff (sugar and starch). Ramp up your food choices over a period of at least one month. This will prevent gaining it all back. Good luck.
ReplyThank You so much ... this diet seems too easy to be real since I love grapefruit...I need to loose at the very least 40 pounds, I lost over 30 pounds a few years ago with no diet just a mini trampaleen I jumed on it moring and night it took about six months and I kept it off for two years but now going into my 40`s it harder to get back into the swing of things........thasnks for your help.

ReplyI have read about this diet and you have to do what it says faithfully. No cheating!!! The first four days you will not loose anything. Then the fifth day you should have lost 5 pounds. Then there after you will loose 1 pound every two days. That is what I have read. So we shall see if it works. I have heard it has helped some people,so will see....I'm keeping the faith as I really want this weight off.
ReplyI lost 40lbs in 2 months on the grapefruit juice diet. It really does work. I also rode my bike 3 mornings a week while I was on this diet. Now my mother in law is on this diet and she lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks. This is the best diet I have ever tried.

ReplyI think that there are vegetarian bacon substitutes, made from soy. Or, I don't see why you couldn't eliminate the bacon, even substitute a piece of whole wheat toast. That's a low glycemic index carb, so I think it might not hurt.
Also, for the salads, there are some good salad mixes, or just a variety of lettuces, like leaf lettuce, as well as the kale.
How about a thin slice of roast beef? Also, I've put beef jerky into an omelet before!
And ignore that suggestion for whole wheat toast. It will screw up any improvement to your fat metabolism (ketones as fuel), if that's what you're trying to achieve.
Also, beware carbs in salad dressings! You can get oil and vinegar at the store that is carb-free, or just do your own thing with a fruity vinegar and some olive oil.

Some meats have corn syrup, and most salad dressings have a bit of sugar which will sabotage all your efforts.

ReplyI have been on the GF diet for 5 days and I have lost 7 pounds. This is the second time I have tried this diet. 10 years ago I lost 58 pounds in 3 months. You have to follow it exactly as it says. And NO CHEATING OR SNACKING! My husband is also on it and has lost 6 pounds in 5 days. I exercise daily and walk 1 mile a day.

ReplyI am currently on the Grape Fruit Diet, and it is already working for me. This is my 3rd day and I gave already lost 2 lbs. I have been on this diet before, and I was able to lose around 25 lbs in a little over a month! You must stick to the rules exactly!! If you don't like bacon, then this is not the diet for you.

Also, must the veggie in the salad be raw or it can be cooked like grilled bell pepper/eggplant? I like tofu too, but it is white, so wonder if I use it for my salad. If I don't feel hungry, can I skip the bedtime snack (milk/tomato juice) part? Thanks.

ReplyI started the Grapefruit Diet because I want to lose weight and fast!! Now the only problem I have is this.......there is so many websites stating what you can and cant eat and this is the confusing bit for me. They seriously contradict each other!!
So some questions...if the ladies who are on the grapefruit diet wouldnt mind answering for me?
1) Can I eat Corn, Peas, Lettuce, Red Onions, White Onions, Cucumber, Tomatoes & Carrots?
2) I dont eat Bacon!! So is it okay to use Sliced Turkey Breast instead?

and finally at 6:00 pm grilled chicken with veggies...
my boyfriend read a similar diet in his workout magazine to cut fat!!! hopefully this works i'll keep everyone posted.
I have been trying to lose weight now for over a year and I just can't find the right diet to work. My aunt and grandma tried this diet and both saw amazing results so I'm hoping I can as well. I will start tomorrow and see where it takes me. I was wondering though if it is alright to use ketchup or bbq sauce??
