this would be laughable if it didn't cause so much misery and misunderstanding. first of all there are as many thin diebetics as fat, in such a case do we conclude that their thinness gave them diebetes?
if you are fat when you go to the doctor everything from migraines to a sinus infection is attributed to fatness, if you are thin I wonder what they attribute those same conditions to?
fatness doesn't cause disease, but the dieting/binging cycle that gets you there sure does, physiology studies say that when you reduce caloires below needs that the first thing the body does is burn protein, fat cannot be burned effectivly without sugar (that is why atkins causes weight loss, the fat is being burned off ineffieciently so alot has to be used and muscles and organ tissue is being cannabalised too to make up for lack of sugar thus large drop in weight) fat cannot be converted to glucose but protein sources (think heart kidneys immune function etc) can.
this damage is what makes some fat people vunerable to disease not the fatness itself, doctors will tell you heart damage and kidney damage is usually not reversible.
think pancreas (made of protein) and damaged pancreas and you get diebetes, tho I have read doctors who say that the cause is different then what they tout on the tv and in journals and such, the brain gets off easy since it is mostly made of fat. guess fathead is an accurate description here.
but it needs glucose and the only source of enough of it is protein stores when you are in a caloiric deficit.
so those figures mentioned are junk science, they are exagerrations and downright lies, all in the name of some hidden agenda, probably some fat cats thinking of ways to manipulate the system to get more money then they really need.
