Hi,
I'm on the dr b diet. I started on Sep 1st 2005, weighing in at 243pounds...today is November 22nd and i weigh 192 pounds. The goal they set for me is 140pounds, although persoanly I find this a little too daunting right now! The diet is supervised, I think that is the 'hook', and you have your urine tested for ketones 2 or 3 times a week. You also get to see their Dr once every eight weeks, and the same for blood work.
The diet is strict, and you must drink a LOT of water. The water is essential to flush the ketones.
If you are like me and need that big push to help you, then this could be the diet for you. I'm not hungry, I don't crave food, i have no muscle wasting and I have excellent energy levels. The one downside, was for the first 2 months, my skin just broke out all the time, but the Dr explained that this was just my hormones rebalancing and that it would end. It did end, and now my skin is great.
Going out to eat is a problem, I'm now the best tester for a salad in Western Canada...but hey...56pounds off is a blessing comapred to scarificing the nachos in a restaurant.
It is expensive, and i'm contemplating getting to around 175 and then doing the rest myself..however the jury is still out on that decision.
Hope this helps.....
very much slimmer in Alberta!

Can anyone let me know what exactly happens in the Dr Bernstein diet. I'm doing a research paper on it and I'm having trouble finding information on the process. It seems to be great for weight loss but i still have yet to find out why and how... it would be great if someone that was doing or has done the diet could supply me with some information :)
Thank you

I did the Bernstein diet a few years ago and although it worked in that I lost a lot of weight quickly (approx 45 pounds in 8 weeks), the donwside was the excessive loss of hair. When I mentioned this to the nurses, they said they had never heard of it happening before yet I knew 4 other people also on the program at that time and all had the same problem. Within six months i had developed high blood pressure for the first time in my life and then within a few months my iron level tested so high that I was referred by my GP to a hematologist. He felt (without ever knowing I had been on the program) that perhaps an excessive amount of potassium had caused the high blood pressure and then questioned whether I had taken an unusually large amount of viatmins which would account for the high iron level. Needless to say, with all the vitamin injections and large quantities of potassium you have to take on the Bernstein program, I did have to wonder.....

My mother is an obese woman and has tried alot of the popular diets over the years. None of them worked. Then she found out about Dr.Bernsteins clinics. She weighed 400 pounds when she started about two years ago and has now lost 150 pounds and is a new woman. She gained some weight at Christmas this year and had to sign a contract that she would lose 2 pounds a week. She is now able to travel and that is what she did when she went to Mexico last week. She gained about ten pounds while she was away (as you do at an all inclusive resort) and she returned to the clinic only to promptly get KICKED OUT by dr.bernstien himself because of the weight gain. She is devistated. and I am afraid for her future. she has paid ALOT of money over two years and had been very sucessful up to now. I just dont understand how they could do this to my mom.It seems as though he cares more about his reputation then he does about the people in his program. This program DOES work but if this is the way they treat their patients I would not recommend it to anyone.

Amy, that is appalling. It is horrible behavior from the clinic. I hope reading that can be an eye-opener to others.

HI, I am seriously considering the DR B diet, but I am wondering what happens after. Vicky if you are still coming on here, can you tell me what has happened now? I want to know if i go off the diet, and eat a healthy "balanced" diet will I gain it back, or can it be kept off with all foods, you know a healthy lifestyle? If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks!!!!!

I have a friend that followed Dr. B diet three years ago this month. She lost 50 lbs in a short amount of time, and has kept it all off. She does eat regularly now, but is much more active than she used to be, which is why I'm thinking she has managed to keep it off. I also know this couple that are doing Dr. B diet right now. The wife has lost 90 lbs (over 9 month) and is on the maintenance program right now (she met her goal) The Maintenance Program is easier and cheaper than weight loss program, and she is doing fine. The husband had lost 80 lbs, gained 20 back and has gone back on the weight loss program, as compared to his wife on the maintenance program. They both swear by this diet. It is expensive. Initial consult is $325 and each week is about $150 for the B6 and B12 injections. Some insurance companies do cover the injections however. I'm not sure how safe this diet is, but it really seems to work, in the cases I've seen and known. They said the first week is bad, feeling lethargic, etc. but all three have said they get past that week, and they're fine. None have complained to me about hair loss, or any other symptoms as above.

I am a 19 year old girl who's life has completely changed over the past year becasue of dr. bernstein's diet. I, like many other teenage girls, have struggled with my weight for years and have tried ever diet out there, but nothing seemed to work. When i found out about dr. bernstein's diet program last february i was 145lbs. i know that probably sounds like not a lot considering my ideal weight is 115 lbs, but those 30 lbs were haunting me and i needed to get rid of them. anyways, i started the diet on feb 1st and by feb 18 i was down to 126 lbs, i took a week of from the clinic to go home for reading week. i was able to stay on the diet for 4 days by myself but the last three days i ate a lot of food i wasn't supposed to and honestly could not stop myself. when i returned to the clinic i had gain 4 lbs but was still determined to get down to 115. in 2 weeks i reached 117 lbs and decided to stop there. that day was amazing, but the past year has been hell. over the past twelve months my weight has went up and down so much in the cycle of me dieting for a few days and then binging on food. my weight at the momemt is 155 lbs and today is my day 1 of starting the diet again by meself for about the 100th time. yes this diet works in the sense that you WILL lose weight very FAST. but unless you are completely committed to staying on the diet and maintainance progra 100% then you WILL gain the weight back and fast. and trust me there is no worse feeling that gaining 40 lbs in suck a short period of time. this program has messed with my self-esteem, emotions and entire social life. the diet has pretty much taken over my life. if you haven't started it, DON'T. just eat healthy and go to the gym, that is the best way to do it. but for me, i am so screwed up right now that i'm trapped with the diet. i know i can last on it for about 2 weeks but eventually i'll give into temptation and gain it all back and more.

Been on the diet for 2 months now and have lost 33 lbs. I think for those who are contemplating starting this diet, they should set some 'REALISTIC' long-term goals if they want to be successful, which means not going back to their original eating habits ever. There's a reason why we were/are overweight. The portion sizes they serve nowadays are far too excessive. Dr. B's diet helps us to learn how to eat properly with controlled appropriate portion sizes. As well, don't think you can keep the weight off without exercise. You must exercise and continue to eat controlled portion sizes and on occassion, cheat (x1 per week) if you want to keep the weight off! Besides, eating like this on the diet for two months will shrink your stomach and you won't ever want to eat like you did before!

I too went on the Dr. B diet, and lost 65 pounds in three months. Then my hair started falling out, and I do mean A LOT of it. I lost half the hair on my head. it was coming out in clumps and leaving bare spots. I was mortified and when I went to see the man himself, he gave me some bullspit about it being some sort of hormonal problem even though I was waving a complete blood work up in his face that showed nothing wrong with me. I had to stop the diet completely and as soon as I did, the weight came back. My metabolism is now so messed up, I can't seem to make the weight go away. I would definately think twice before considering this diet, and I would never recommend it to anyone. Sure the weight comes off quickly, but when you are living on about 500 calories a day, it's no wonder. Being a chubby chick, I know the deep desire to be slim and healthy, but this is not the way to go about it. Do some research on the web and you will come across the story of a man who actually died while on this diet, and it was (apparently) attributed to the rapid weight loss and the metabolic havoc it created in this guy. Pretty scary.

I have two friends who did the Dr. Bernstein diet and both lost a significant amount of weight. The first friend completed her diet 2 years ago and has never gained back. The second friend completed her goal in September and still looks fabulous! I told her today that I am thinking of signing up and she couldn't say enough good things about it. She said the first few days are brutal, but then you really start to feel great, especially when you see results quickly instead of losing 2 lbs a month. She lost a total of 60 lbs and it took her about 9 months. When I plugged in my current weight, it said it would take me just over 6 months to lose 116 lbs, but I think that's a little optimistic.

This will cost me about $5000, but I'm pretty confident that I can do this. The important part (I think) is making sure you do the maintenance portion of the plan afterwards. I suspect a lot of people just do what they have to and get to their goal and then go out on their own. I can understand why because to sign up for a year of maintenance will cost me in the range of an $800 (included in the $5000 price). A lot of people don't have that kind of money kicking around! (I had to take out a loan!)

I have been through the diet yo-yo system many times. Before I got married, I lost 40 lbs on amphetamine diet pills. Those sucked because I not only went kind of squirly on them, I gained back 80 lbs when I went off them. Then I got pregnant with twins and after I gave birth, I still weighed 60 lbs more than I did when I got pregnant. My ob/gyn told me not to worry about losing weight while I was pregnant and I really went wild with that one!

I never did take off the "baby weight". I have yo-yo'd on more diet pills since then, and tried Weight Watchers and South Beach. But the one thing I think I'm missing is structure and guidance. I know what foods are good for you, but I need someone to help me get on track. Weight Watchers is useless that way because all you get is some former WW member weighing you and suggesting a few possible reasons why you gained that week.

I like the fact that you really focus on weight loss with this (Dr. Bernstein's) diet and then gradually work your way into normal eating afterwards. It's really hard when you're as overweight as I am, to just get up one day and say you're going to change your eating habits and start working out. If you believe you can do that and actually follow through for the 2 years or so that it will take, all the more power to you. But it's a very unrealistic goal and takes a hell of a lot of self-discipline.

Anyway, I'm planning to go to a consultation appointment in the next couple of weeks. I'll let you know how it works out!

I'm currently in the Dr. B diet and the key to remaining healthy while on this diet is to take the vitamins and supplements prescribed. If you don't the effects of this restrictive diet will be negative. So far its been 17 days on this diet and 10lbs gone. I feel great!! 20 more to go!!!

I did the diet 2 yrs ago, I was then 201 lbs and very selconscious and nervous about where my life was going. I was depressed and had just finished college, was looking for a job and had been sitting at home for a year waiting for something to happen. I had to get out of the stump I was in. I got a part time job and decided to start the diet. It is VERY expensive and my whole paycheck went to pay for it, but it worked.

I lost 40 pounds in 2 and a half months. I was able to keep it off until recently. November I began a job where I am sitting in front of a computer all day, and gained 15 pounds. I am now back on the diet, as of a month ago and have lost the 15 I'd gained. The problem I found with the 1st time around, that I'm experiencing right now also is that I'm beginning to plateau. It's like your body gives up. It's not healthy and they can't expect us to keep eating the way they want us to for the rest of our lives... it's unrealistic.. no one can live on 800 calories/day! I managed to keep it off due to an active job I had, but look at me now.

I would recommend the diet if you are desperate like I was, only then will you have the motivation and drive, the self-disipline needed to do it. But once you feel you're plateauing, don't waste your money, try to do it yourself... I was able to and kept it off. Sometimes I think they purposely stop giving you the right vitamin injections just so you can keep going. Don't let them make you feel guilty, and don't let yourself be forced to stay if you're no longer seeing results....

Good luck to anyone starting it...

I got my first vitamin shot yesterday and my first official day on the diet will be tomorrow. I feel better already not eating so much crap and carbs. I do admit I worry a little about what might happen after I lose all the weight. I have about 116 lbs to lose and I fully intend to do it, but even the maintenance part seems rather restrictive. It IS a healthier way to eat, though, less carbs and fat, and MORE fibre, protein, and water. I think once you're done the diet and if you have occasion to go on a trip or something where you gain a few lbs, doesn't it just make sense to realize that and work hard to take off the extra weight? I mean, I'm no expert on this topic, but losing 10 lbs can't be that difficult if you really work at it. I think this program is really about adapting to a whole new way of eating.... a new lifestyle. That's what I plan to do, anyway!

I plan to do the full year of maintenance after I'm done the program. Is there anyone who DOESN'T?

Diana

By the way, I didn't mean to sound snotty in my last comment. I was just curious to see what other people's experiences are in the maintenance. :-)

I am considering going on the Dr.B diet. I want to lose 20 lbs, though not much, but needs to be lost. Does anyone think that its worth the money that I will be paying (aprox. $550 with my student discount) by going on this diet? Has anyone tried other diets that were better than this one and more successful?

Thank you for your time,
Anna

I am 15 years old and over the past year have lost 80 lbs. I now weigh 148 lbs and am 5'6. It was pretty hard to lose weight at a young age with parties, friends, and social eating. I kinda did a weight watchers diet by counting calories, and using a points system. How it works: 50 cal. = 1 point. I use 20 points a day. I copied a friends weight watchers book and got started. I strugled at first, but finaly i got with it. Now, hear i am and i am an average weight, but its getting soo dificult to stay on it so i do not gain it back! I want to b like everyone else and eat what i want when i want it and not worry all day, or gain weight. I also can not get motivated enough to run. It makes it even harder when friends are like " sarah, u look so good, dont worry about what you eat now" well, i have to, cuz i am mnore prone to gain it back, and my body isnt use to eating regular. I get so depresses. Like today, i "cheated" What can i do? Its just food right? Why does it have to rule my life? Y cany i just eat to live, not live to eat!? I cant gain my weight back! Please help me!!! N if any 1 needs any help or has any questions about loseing, id b glad to help you! my aim name is sarahbellx22 THANKS!

I am on the DR B diet now. I have been on it since Tuesday and today is Friday, so 4 full days now. I have to say that I disagree with most of you on this diet. So far I have lost 4 lbs, so that is great, the diet does work. But damn, there is a hell of a price to pay, and I don't mean money wise. You are basically starving yourself to death. I am hungry 24/7 now. I feel like I could eat a whole cow at this point. I have NO ENERGY, TIRED ALL DAY LONG, and I am GRUMPY TOO. I am not having much luck with this diet. I think I would rather stay 40lbs overweight then feel like this. My hair is falling out too already.
I hope it gets better. I paid upfront for 8 weeks, and there are no refunds. So I will have to stay on it until then. I will keep you all updated. For now, I am tired and need to lay down, even though I just woke up. I have no energy, probably because I am starving to death. You only get to eat like 800 calories per day. Most people need at least 1500-2000 per day just to function.

Dear Mia,
You sound very discouraged...
Please next time your in the clinic, TELL THEM
most likely they didn't make your potassium suppliments high enough. The first few weeks on the diet I was asleep by 7pm, I just couldn't stay awake, at work I found myself falling asleep. they changed me over from Mic-K to K-lyte(which enters the blood stream faster) and it made a world of difference!!!! Then I also found I started to be Cold all the time, like when I had a bath, I couldn't get the water hot enough, I was constantly freezing so they started me on calcuim suppliments and againt hat made so much of a difference. Thing is you have to be completely honest with the nurses! I can't stress that enough, if they don't know what's going on then they can't help you. Don't save it for the Dr.'s I find the Dr's a lot less helpful then the nurses, the nurses are the one's that see you every day and really talk to you and listen, believe me they hear it all.

A little about me, started the diet November 5th, 2005 at 230.8lbs, Today April 7th, 2006 I weigh 159.0lbs. It has been really slow going for me this last month or so because the fact is I am so close to the goal and no longer have the drive of feeling so fat to keep me going, so I find myself cheating more and more often. One thing to note, when I do cheat (like the other day I eat a entire bag about 300g of mini chocolete cadbury eggs) well after I felt so ill, one thing eat to much and the other the huge amount of sugar I subjected myself to after such a long time with next to none was ahuge shock to the system, but I think that feeling of illness will linger for a while and help me not do something thta stupid again. The diet is hard, yes! But you ahve to be smart about it. If you pick all the lowest calarie options on the list then you will not be doing yourself any favours but at the same time watch the fruit.
Anyway that's my comments.
If anyone wants to chat about the diet don't hesitate to contact me at twisted.stix@gmail.com

I agree with you 100%, so I went into the clinic yesterday afternoon to talk with the nurses about how bad I was feeling. I had to go into the clinic anyway to give my urine and get my shots. My clinic is open until 2:30pm. And since I now sleep all day since I started this diet, then it was almost impossible for me to get out of bed, but I forced myself. I was running very late, so I called to tell the nurses that I was on my way and that I would in fact be there before 2:30pm, but it would be close. The nurse got rude with me and told me "too bad" " I dont' know what to tell you" " we dont' accept any patients after 2:15pm". (this was news to me no one had ever mentioned this to me before - and I had already been driving at least 20 mins with 2 young children in tow). So I said to the nurse," Hey, I didn't know that you do not accept patients after 2:15pm. I promise you that no one ever told me this, otherwise I would have made it there by 2:15pm) I said "I was told that you close at 2:30pm, and the sign on your door says 2:30pm, and there are no signs in the office posting that they do not accept patients after 2:15pm. So how was I to know." By this time, the nurse had already insulted me and I was getting upset. I told her that I had already been driving for at least 20 mins, and it's a 35 minute drive to the office. I have 2 cranky children in tow and I need to speak with someone today, because I cannot even take care of my own children. Something is seriously wrong. She told me that it wasn't her problem and that I would have to go to my regular doctor and find out what my blood was missing from the new diet I was on." I was humiliated to say the least. then she says, "Okay, come on in, see you when you get here." So I continued to drive that way. I got there at 2:28pm. 2 mintues before closing. Just in time.
I went to open the door and it was LOCKED. The 7 or so nurses that were working just stood there behind the glass doors staring at me, like they were not going to let me in. I said through the glass that it was not 2:30pm yet. She said that they lock the doors at 2:30pm (why didn't she tell me that on the phone? Why would she allow me to drive all that way, then lock the door when she sees me pull up. I was furious and humiliated again. So she opens the door, after I knocked a few times, she asks me what do I want? I told her that I could understand if I knew that the cutoff was 2:15pm, but I was seriously unaware of this, and I got there before 2:30pm. She says that it is against Dr. Bernstein and Canadian Laws to get overtime, so she wouldn't be able to help me because she could get fired if she did. I was crying my eyes out at this point. I told her, "Look, I cannot even get out of bed, I'm so lazy and tired, my house is a wreck, I don't even have the energy to shower or brush my teeth on this diet, it's horrible. I need help Please? I cannot take care of my kids, don't you care? Don't you understand". She said "NO" she didn't care and she wouldn't talk to me about it.
I was so humiliated and I was crying hysterically at this point. Mind you all of the women in this office are black, they were all ganging up on me together (I am white). That is the only explanation I can come up with to how badly they treated me. I am not predjudice, but a lot of the blacks were I live hate white people to death, and they let you know. There is just no way around it. So this white girl (who seemed very shy and low on the totum poll) came over to me and told everyone they could go home (since all of them were only concerned with going home and clocking out and none were concerned with my well being whatsoever and they even told me so). The white girl walked over to me and said she would take care of me, no problem, she didn't even care if she got paid for it, she knew I needed some help. So she was so sweet and she took me in the back room and closed the door and told me that she was sorry that I had just been treated that way. She asked me questions, like what was I eating, and looked at my eating chart, and she tested my urine, and she really truly genuinely cared for me and was concerned about me. Then in the middle of her tryingn to help me, all of the black girls busted open the door and told her she needed to HURRY UP AND GET ME OUT OF THERE. Right in front of me as if I wasn't sitting right there. It was so humiliating. The the one girl in charge, yells something at me, throws something on the floor (cause she was having to stay behind late) and slammed a door to call Dr Bernstein himself. She comes back and says Dr Berstein told me to tell you that you cannot do this, you cannot just show up here and expect us to stay late for you, we will give you a shot, but that is it, and you better not ever pull this mess again on us. I was even more dehumanized and humilitated. I felt like pond scum, no lower then that I felt like sewer scum. I had just paid them $1000 and this is how I get treated after only 4 days on their diet? I was crushed, crying, upset and I just wanted to crawl into a whole and die at this point. These women succeeded in making me feel like all of this was my fault, and how dare I make them late for getting off of work on a friday afternoon. They told me that Dr Bernstein himself said they would be fired if they treated me. If that is the way he wants to run his business then I don't want any part of it. I'm sorry, I feel like I paid a lot of money for this weightloss program ($1000). And I feel like I should at least be treated like a human being, and not like trash on the street. I am the customer right? I felt like I was standing at the post office, or DMV, or a government run agency where I have to cater to them, instead of them catering to me. It was horrific !!
Anyway, to finish the story, the girl who did help me (Amy) was so sweet and even though they made her stop helping me, because they wanted me OUT of there so they could all leave and go home. Amy made me feel better, and she told me that I shouldn't have been treated that way. She told me what to do to try and feel better and she really cared.
As I was walking out, hyperventilating at this point (seriously) I was so upset, I mentioned to the girls that I would be contacted Dr. Bernstein myself and telling him that I could not continue this program being treated this way. And I told the nurses as I was walking out, that "If I had told any other nurse or doctor, that I could not get out of bed, that I was so tired I couldn't even clean, cook, take a shower, brush my teeth or take care of my children, any other doctor or nurse would have taken that as a very bad sign and been a little bit concerned, but you all have no compassion, and you could care less that I just told you I CANNOT EVEN FUNCTION, IT took all the strength I had in my just to try and make it here today, and before you closed". They then proceded to kick me out and told me to go to my own doctor for help.
I was so upset that I sat in the parking lot crying for 20 mins in my car, with my 2 poor innocent children watching me, wondering why their mommy couldn't get it together and drive. Meanwhile, all the nurses walked right by me to rush home and get on with their lives...........I have never felt more humiliated in my life.
I cannot go back there, I want to stick with the diet, I am not a quitter, I have no problem with that, I just need to know why it is making me so misrable? And can they help me to get past this, but no one could.
So I cannot go back there, seriously. I won't.
I called corporate office, but they had all gone for the day, for the most part, I did talk with a woman named Diane, who originally signed me up for the program, and she said she would relay the message. She was very nice and helpful. But I really doubt that anything will be done, I have read a lot of other posts online about similar experiences with this company. One woman I read about, got caught having a little bit of milk and they immediately kicked her out of the program, there goes her $1000 (down the drain).
Not the kind of place I want to continue to give my hard earned money to.

Mia...that was quite a story. Do you really think that Doctor Bernstein would be contacted over closing times? Does he even exist? Why does the race of the nurses matter?

I have tried everything to lose weight, and the only time that I have been successful was when i did not have a car and rode my bicycle to work everyday (6 km round trip). Exercise is the only way to do it...we need to eat and will likely eat what we want.

Good luck to everyone!

Race does not matter to me. You would have to live in my town to understand what I am talking about. I love everyone, no matter what the color. Everyone is human and deserves to be treated equally.
The blacks in my town hate whites. I don't know why? We all seem to treat them fairly. They juat hate us. There is no reason, or explanation for this. They feel like we are trash, and they treat us as such. It's horrible, so horrible that my husband and I have considered moving out of state. Leaving our dreamhome behind, the home we had planned to stay in for life..........and let our two young children grow up in.
I guess you would really have to go through it to understand what I am talking about, prior to living here, I would never had mentioned race regarding any issues I had with others.
I hope you understand.

OH and by the way, I wanted to tell you that the Dr Berstein Diet does work. I have now lost 6 pounds in 5 days. And I am not exercising at all.
But I am getting tired of snacking on Cucumbers and celery all day. YOu really cannot eat anything.
Basically you are starving to death.
The shots are supposed to help curve your appetite while you starve yourself (only allowed to eat 800 calories a day - compared to the average of 2000 per day). So you are hungry all the time. The shots are not making my appetite go away, nor are they giving me this ton of energy that they claim I will get.
It's sad really that I feel for the whole program.
Hind sight is 20/20.

Mia, It seems that you have quite a bit of energy. Maybe if you actually tried sleeping at night, you could find the energy to get out of bed, and get to your injections on time. I don't doubt that you had a difficult time at the Dr's office, but try putting your energy into spending time with your children, and cleaning your house, then in front of a computer 24/7. It looks like you're up all night. Get yourself into a regular sleep cycle, start exercising, and stop blaming others for your short comings.
If you need to, keep up with Dr. B, or try something else. I've been on weight watchers for a couple of months now, and although the weight is coming off a lot slower, the people are very supportive. You also will find that many of the people who attend weight watchers meetings are also very supportive and provide you with helpful hints, and motivation. It's also a lot cheaper.

Mia, I'm sorry to hear what you've been through. I really think you need to get in there, preferably without your children in tow, so you can talk to a nurse, even at a different location. Don't give up yet.

The clinic where I go seems good so far. Tomorrow will be two weeks on the diet and I have lost 13 lbs. The first 24 hours was hell for me. I had a wicked headache and I felt sick. I was also tired a lot earlier at night for the first couple of nights. But since then, I've been feeling better than I have in years! The diet is EXTREMELY strict and there have been times where I thought if I have to eat another vegetable or piece of chicken, I'm going to barf. But I've been trying to mix it up a little, so I don't get bored. I've actually tried a couple of recipes from Dr. B's book and they weren't bad! The best part, though, is waking up with more energy and feeling energized because I'm making a positive change in my life. You REALLY have to stick to the diet, though. No cheating whatsoever. I do find it a little expensive and time-consuming with all the grocery shopping (especially for fruits and veggies!) and writing down everything I eat, but I am determined to follow through.

As I think I mentioned earlier, I have 5-year-old twins, so the hardest part is making them macaroni and cheese or dishing out ice cream. My hubby has been very supportive to me on this diet, so I consider myself fortunate.

I'm a little worried about what will happen at the end of the diet, but I am planning to do the full year of maintenance afterwards.

Sara,
Your comments were harsh to say the least. I have a little baby, and that is why I am up at 3:30am with him. I take care of my children very well. It hurts me that you would say something like that, and you do not even know me. I must get up and feed my baby, he eats around 3-3:30am every night. Then I check my email and messages and usually go right back to bed. It is the only time I can be on the computer without ignoring my children. I would appreciate if you don't have anything nice to say that you just don't say anything at all. All of us are obviously here for support and not to belittle and judge one another. I love the Dr B diet now, the first few days were very ROUGH to say the least, but my energy is back up now, and I do feel amazing now. I have lost a lot of weight very quickly and am fitting into clothes that I haven't worn in 2 years !! I love it. I was treated horribly by a few women at the clinic. But they are being taken care of as we speak, and they probably won't be working for Dr B anymore, since that is not he kind of people he wants working for him. The Dr B clinic has been very supportive of my complaints for the way I was treated on Friday. They are doing everything that they can to make ammends to me, and I am so thankful for that. They are responsible for me while I am on this diet, that is why it is medically supervised by them. They do want to hear from their patients, even if it's closing time, when they are having difficulties with the diet as I was.
I am finding that I am not nearly as hungry as I was at first. In fact one fruit will usually fill me up. It is truly amazing.
Diana, thanks so much for your kind words and support. I have contacted the headquarters of the Dr B diet and they are sending me to a new location, so that I will not have to be treated that way again, and they are in the process of "taking care" of the nurses who were so cold and pure evil to me on Friday.
I do love this diet, and I don't plan on quitting anytime soon. It was just very emotional and rough at first.
Take care and good luck to you too !!

Hello,

Today is my first day on the diet and I am extremely excited. I have about 40 lbs to lose and can't wait to fit into pre-pregnancy clothes. I have a nine-month old and Mia, I know exactly what you mean about being on the computer when the baby is asleep, so you don't 'ignore' them.

Sara, your comments were completely inapropriate. We are here to help each other, not be judged or criticized. We all have one goal in common: to lose weight and I know I could use any encouragement that I can get.

Mia, keep up the good work and keep us posted on your progress. I will do the same.

Some people just are not worth responding to. So I choose to ignore the ignorance of others.

Hi Emma,
Thanks for your reply. You should be excited about starting the diet. It is a great diet, and I was very excited on day one too, until I hit a very big low on the 4th day. But don't be discouraged. Your energy levels might not pick up right away. But eventually they will. I am on day 8 now on the Dr B diet, and I don't think I have felt this great in many years, even before I had two babies. I love it !! I went in this morning for my shot and they tested my urine and I am finally in Full blown Ketosis. It's so awesome. I feel stronger then ever. I have lost 6 lbs in only 8 days. I think that is great. The Dr. B home office has been really great to me following my horrible incident last Friday. They have called me numerous times apologizing for the way those few bad apples treated me. I have to say that the way that Dr B and his upper management have handled my complaint have been nothing short of amazing. I thought they would just push me aside and not do anything about it, but they have far exceeded my expectations and I am very greatful for that. The new clinic I go to is sooo wonderful. The women there are very supportive and very compassioniate. Which is what most of us need when we are struggling with weight issues and dramatically changing our diets.
I couldn't be happier with the program now.
I only have 40 pound to lose as well. But I think the money I paid is well worth it. I'm not hungry anymore like I was the first week on the diet. I have tons of energy, and I am burning fat everyday without any exercise (except for chasing around my two children all day long) hahahahahaha

Emma good luck to you, and please keep me posted on how you are doing. And if you have any questions. Also, if you notice that you are not losing the weight fast enough, or if you are not going into ketosis. Then ask your nurses if you can take away fruit for a day or two, that is what I did, and then the weight really came off quickly. And also, they will probably recommend that anyway.
Take care and keep in touch please.

Mia,
I almost started to cry myself when I read your message about how they treated you that day. I have to say I admire you for sticking to it. I don't believe I would have been able to face that and survive, so to speak! I have had nothing but awesome experiences with the Nurces at Dr. B's so this just blows my mind that they would treat you so, I am so happy to hear that there was another clinic that you could go too. The LAST thing you need is that type of "negative" feelings when trying to make a life change like this one.

I am also sorry that for some reason there seems to be a few very Negative people on hear. I swear there are some people that absolutely have no life and spend their time surfing for blogs and message boards like this to try to stir up confrotations and heated debates just for the fun of it. The best is to step above such individuals such as you have and ignore them, and realise that they are just not worth your time.

Well I am really ahppy to hear that everything got straightened out and that you are feeling better. Did it just take time or did they have to change you vitamin intake? Or potassium?

Well good luck with the kids :-) I hope to look forward to that some day soon.

Mia, I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at the clinic and do believe they treated you poorly. However, you need to stop blaming other people for your problems and take responsibility for your own actions. Judging by your emails describing your lifestyle, you need to stop feeling tired and lazy, quit whining because self-pity gets you nowhere! There's a reason why you gained all that weight, now do something about it! I mean seriously, the clinic opens very early in the morning, why the hell would you waltz in near closing? The same rules apply to restaurants, NEVER GO THERE IF IT'S 30 mins. or less to CLOSING!! You are not the only person out there who feels tired on this diet. I have been on the diet since January 2006 and have lost 40 lbs. I also felt tired and starving (like the rest of us) but decided to do something about it and not complain. I got fat because I was lazy! Period. I took up bikram's yoga and now practice it 4 times a week. That way, you can have an extra protein on the days you work out. I am in my goal weight zone right now and must say that I have eaten chocolate chip cookies, potato chips, chocolate cake and still lose a minimum of 1 lbs. every other day. Don't take my advice in a negative way, I just think you should stop whining and start exercising.

Hey girls, thanks so much for the support. Yes, I feel GREAT NOW. I have so much energy now that I cannot stop. The nurses at the new clinic are awesome, very sweet girls, and they told me that I can come in anytime even at 2:30pm on the dot (closing time) and they will still see me, because they care. It's a wonderful feeling to know that. I love this diet now.
I hate exercising, so losing this weight and not lifting a finger is awesome. 2 babies later and after hitting 30 years old the weight just doesnt' come off as fast as it did in my twenties. hahahahaha
To answer your question though, no they did not do anything to my vitamins or anything to help me get this energy, it just took some time. I was a carb addict and a coffee-a-holic.
So the lack of having those put my body into shock, now that I have detoxed from those I feel better then ever now. I'm going outside to do some yardwork now and plant some flowers and such. But I wanted to say after doing some research I found out that:

Lola, Sara, and Tanya are all the same person. A troll. So everyone lets keep up the positive comments and ignore her. She is obviously a very sad and lonely person who starts drama to create her own happiness.

I will ignore her, and I hope that you all can too.
Take care ladies, and have a wonderful day.

No, I'm sorry to tell you this but I am not Sara or Tanya. I want to help you lose weight!! I was in the same situation as you! The Nile is not only a river in Egypt!! If someone is trying to knock some sense into you, don't brush it off like I'm trying to bring you down. We are all on here for the same reason: to help each other to lose weight. People got sick and tired of hearing me whine about gaining all this weight after kids and finally just said to me, "Well...do something about it! It's not just what you eat, it's your lifestyle." I'm just trying to give you a dose of what they gave me, a swift kick in the butt to get me going and NOW I REALIZE AND AM VERY GRATEFUL THAT THEY DID BECAUSE I WOULD STILL BE BLAMING EVERYTHING/EVERYONE ELSE FOR MY FAILURES. Mia, please take it as constructive criticism. You can't go on with your life thinking the way you do, because if you do, you're going to end up gaining all the weight back! This diet is not just a phase, you need to think about longterm goals and your lifestyle. For example, start getting up early in the mornings and go for a walk. The more you laze around, the more tired you get. Pretty soon, you'll want to do it everyday and wondered how you lived without it. Having read Sara's comments, I really don't think she's being harsh. Don't take this the wrong way, but there is a lot of truth to what Sara is saying. I think she's trying to encourage you to make longterm realistic goals. If you think after the 8 weeks of dieting you can get away with not exercising or reverting back to your old eating habits, you will be disappointed and you cannot blame the anyone else for your failure. Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm only here to help you succeed and keep the weight off. I am offering you constructive criticism, please don't ignore this. I had the same attitude as you a few years ago and even though lost the weight, it came back with a vengeance...Why? Because I had the same attitude you have.

Mia,
That is so great to here that things are looking up. I hope the energy stays with you and gets you feeling reviatalized and I am sure as the weight starts to melt off you will have even more energy, and not just because you will look great in the mirror. Just think lets say you weighed originally 200 lbs and lost 50 lbs. now your 150 lbs, pick up a 50 lb weight and try carring it around all day and still function? Not an easy thing to do is it? Maybe once you get to your goal, excersie will be fun again like it was when we were young. Who knows right? I know for me, even when I walk I feel lighter. Most people have experienced being "Thin" I never was so I notice a lot of differences, even the negative one's, like I mentioned to my husband how much the bottom of the tub hurt my ass the other day. He laughed at me. Or the fact that I keep feeling like I am going to fall into the toilet because I fit so much further in then I did before. Silly stuff, but great stuff at the same time.

I think as far as excersie goes, I myself do, I walk for at least an hour hard every day as well as go tot he gym three time s a week and even ride my excersise bike at home once in a while and now that the snow is gone my husband and I have started out riding our bikes again. But... Excersie isn't the problem... Eating is, eating the wrong foods, too much of certain foods, eating more then we need to feel full. All that. It comes down to moderation. I was talking to my Dr. (not Dr. B's Dr.)the other day and he basically told me right streight, excersie will not make you lose weight. You will gain muscle and muscle burns more calories so indirectly you may or may not lose weight. More muscle also increases your matabolism which can help you lose weight indirectly. But food intake is the problem. I see no reason you can not keep the weight off if you learn to eat properly, and the Dr. B's maintenance program is a great start to that. Man I sound like a Dr. B diet promoater here! Oh well, if I was I am sure I would spell better with better grammer, so rest assured I am not. Anyway what I am trying to say, what worked for me might not work for you, what worked for "Lola" might not work for you or I. If you seriously don't like excersie then a diet program where excersie is manditory, you would never stick to right? So why can't people just let everyone do what they need to do. I am glad for "Lola" that her friends kicked her in the butt for I am sure that is what SHE needed. But her friends KNOW HER and KNOW WHAT SHE NEEDED. None of us hear know you well enough personally to be able to say what you should do or knock you for not following our advice.

But then again this is all just my humble and simple opinion, and who really cares what I think besides me? And maybe my husband since he has to live with me :-)
