Celebrity junk food ads attacked
BBC: "Celebrities should be banned from promoting junk food, a leading medical journal has said. In an editorial, The Lancet suggested celebrity endorsement of junk food is contributing to high rates of obesity, particularly among children. It called on ministers to introduce legislation to ban the practise. The Department of Health said it has no plans for new legislation but said there was a case for industry to act more responsibly."
This article presupposes that its the celebrities in advertisements that cause people to purchase junk food. I think we all know that this is an oversimplification.

Personally, I disagree. There is scientific research going on in advertising. I once dissected a Sarah Lee cheesecake bite ad. At first, it seemed to be encouraging people to eat the product at special occasions. Then it quickly indicated that the bites could be eaten whenever they wanted because they were "for moments that needed it whether positive situations or to recuperate from ordinary negative situations" . Granted people should be responsible for their own actions and advertising (and the use of celebrities to push an item) is not without its problems and repercussions. Even if personally you don't know anyone who is affected, there are people who are or who have not been exposed to healthy tips and practices.
