PYY Nasal Spray Curbs Hunger
PYY, a hormone that suppresses appetite, has been made into a nasal spray which appeared to reduce hunger pangs.
The New York Times has the details:
Starting about six weeks ago, Dr. Bloom began testing different doses of Nastech's PYY spray in 15 healthy volunteers who were not overweight. They fasted overnight, skipped breakfast, came to the laboratory, had their natural blood levels of the hormone measured and then squirted the spray up their noses. Within a half-hour or less, the level of the hormone in their blood increased, with high doses producing blood levels several times those that normally occur after meals. The spray had no effect on blood pressure, heart rate or breathing. A few subjects who received the highest doses had brief episodes of nausea and lightheadedness.Although the study was not designed to measure the hormone's effect on appetite, the researchers asked the subjects to rate their hunger, and it seemed to diminish after they used the spray.
"It was suggestive, but not definitive," Dr. Bloom said.

ReplyMy concern isn’t about the lack of health care plans (which is basically a sickness plan - not a health plan).I thinks we need to initially focus on a part of the problem rather than the whole thing in health care system.
