SubscribeState Tests Surgery's Cost Effectiveness
Forty Louisiana state employees will receive free gastro-intestinal bypass surgeries in an experiment to see whether it can keep insurance costs down by preventing future health problems.
The first job will be choosing the 40 from more than 1,000 people on the state's health plan who expressed interest in the surgery. The participants will be monitored for three years.A few states require insurance companies to cover the operation, which clips the stomach to a fraction of its original size and bypasses part of the intestine. This makes people feel full much more quickly, and digest less of what they eat.
The resulting weight loss can head off long-term illness related to being overweight. The operation is generally considered only for people who are "morbidly obese" — at least 100 pounds overweight.

ReplyI have been trying to get this surgery for over three years I am perfectly health besides being obeast. Several doctors have seen me and all diagnosis are the same you just need to loose some weight. I have been going to orthodonist because the cartilidge in my knees are wearing then because i am to heavy. I am a border line diabetic and have border-line hypertension and they all say Ms. Selvage you just need to loose some weight, you are to young for knee surgery etc.. I have sleep apnea and a machine that I may have to wear the rest of my life because i am soo heavy i cant breathe.I am only 29 years old i have my husband and four children i cant play with my kids without being out of breath. My daughter says momma if you just wasnt so big you could play with us. she dosent understand there only 7,4, and twins are 2. I have had the pyshcological test paid for it myself i have had the sleep studys and now what i am 411 lbs and 5.7 i have seen the surgeons i just dont have the resources i am a great canidate. That is why i have yet to choose and insurance plan with the state i dont know which one,even if lyou dont choose me for the study please let me know what insurance to choose i desperately need it and i have done all the presteps i have even been told i need to loose70lbs before it can even be done i am ready to starve my self and take weight loss pills and i know i will loose the weight only problem is if it isnt done within the first 2 mths of me loosing the weight it will come back triple. please choose me please pleaseeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
