Take 10,000 Steps a Day for Better Health
Walking 10,000 steps every day can have substantial positive impact on the health of an otherwise sedentary person, a study in Preventive Medicine reported:
Over a period of eight weeks, 18 previously inactive, overweight women who were given pedometers and the goal of walking 10,000 steps per day came very close to this target and significantly improved their health. All of the women, who were at risk for diabetes, saw beneficial changes in blood glucose levels and lowered their blood pressure. These health benefits from walking were achieved without dieting and weight loss.
"We were pleasantly surprised at how well the women responded to the pedometers and the concrete goal of walking 10,000 steps per day," Dr. Ann M. Swartz from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee told Reuters Health.

I think 10,000 steps per day is a good rule to follow. Invest in a good pedometer and you will get an idea of how active or not you are - it can make all the difference in weight reduction.
