Low Carb Diets Boost Jerky Sales
The popularity of Atkins and other low carbohydrate, high protein diets have caused consumption of jerky to nearly double:
The Snack Food Association, a trade group based in Alexandria, Va., said that in 1998, Americans ate 76 million pounds of meat snacks, amounting to roughly $1 billion in sales. In 2002, Americans consumed 139 million pounds of meat snacks, amounting to $2.1 billion in sales. (That does not include sales of the American product in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, where it sells briskly as well.)

How ironic since most jerky is dripping with sugar.
