Tax Deductions for Weight Loss
According to Pernell Watson, the Internal Revenue Service is now allowing taxpayers to write off weight loss expenses as medical deductions. "If a doctor specifically recommends exercise as part of a weight-loss program to treat a disease, the cost may be deducted as a medical expense. Simply joining a gym or a weight-control program to improve the taxpayer's appearance, general health and sense of well-being and not under a physician's guidance will not qualify," he said.

Hello, i live in Calgary Alberta Canada. I wanted to add my comments about the LA Weighloss centre here in Calgary. I totally agree with you on the sales pressure!!! I was firm and said no. Having some knowledge on the protein bars, I do buy my own. (I did'nt tell them that tho) Since having my son I was unable to lose weight and their program (for me) has been quite successful. Would I recomend it? yes but don't get suckered into the shakes & bars. Thank you
ReplyHi all,
ReplyI too lost 40 lbs with LA wt loss...my friend told me about this salon in Calgary that offers EMS (electromuscle stimulation) which helps tone the muscle and after losing my wt I really needed to tone up (flabby in a lot of places) she gave me their website www.sweetphysique.com
Before I call and perhaps make an appt, I was wondering if anyone else has done this before and got results? Any added insight will help...
Thanks Tenari
I live in Calgary as well and not only did I end up in debt paying over $1000 for my years program, I only lost 15 lbs. This program and many others like it are a "Profit" organizations. I DO NOT let anyone I know or come in contact with gain any intrest in this scam. When people ask how I lost the weight, as I did after wasting my money and time, I say the old fashioned way....healthy eating and exercise.
ReplyI also live in Calgary, and I firmly believe that whatever weightloss program you buy you must understand it is all business to them. I tried a few programs before LA Weightloss and failed due to my own lack of desire to follow the program. Maybe that is why I packed on the pounds in the first place! On LA Weight Loss for week 40 and lost 50 lb - no maintaining. It costs a lot of money but put aside your emotions when dealing with anything that costs money and read the fine print. A change in lifestyle is hard, I slipped up a few times, some of the LA Weightloss staff were great, some were awful but I learned to request certain staff members to work with. The bar are expensive but for some of us they have done the trick. I recommend research, reasearch, reasearch before any program, and learn to say "No" and walk away (I'm always surprised with the "deal" that follows". Best of luck on whatever weight loss program you choose.
ReplyI was quite successful with LA Weightloss for the first few months after my first child was born. I did not purchase any of their food products (except the chocolate biscotti, mmm) due to a milk allergy and was actually losing weight too fast as my milk production went down. Still, even with changing to a plan that included more food, I lost 40lbs on the program within about 5-6 months. I have to agree with other comments saying that you have to find one or two staff members that you like, which can be hit or miss. Near the end I had a hard time going because the two people that I liked actually either transfered stores or had left LA Weightloss completely.
I didn't like that you couldn't redo your "goal weight" if you thought you had lost enough. My goal weight ended up being about 10lbs lighter than what I ended up being happy with. Due to this, there was no way that I would get the money back at the 6month and 1 year marks of maintenence as I would never make it to maintenence. I think personally the maintenence period was a waste of money because I honestly wanted nothing to do with the program by the time I had lost the weight I wanted. I even kept all the weight off... till I got pregnant again. :)
