Finally the sorry saga has come to an end. Dr Phil McGraw's line of "Shape-Up" supplements became the subject of a class action lawsuit last year.

The claim has now been settled - to the tune of $10.5 million.

Maybe that should be egg on his face.As the lawsuit against Dr Phil gathers momentum, some interesting information has come forward. Dr Phil apparently admitted he had "no expertise" in making the diet pills he endorsed. The Shape Up line of supplements (by CSA Nutraceuticals) were removed from sale during 2004.

When Dr Phil McGraw came out with his own line of supplements - his credibility took a real hit. It's one thing to write insightful self-help books - but promoting diet supplements is another thing altogether.

Dr Phil created the Shape Up! brand - which even included having his diet online via eDiets (the relationship was soon disbanded). The line of Shape Up! supplements came to the attention of the FTC after claims of false advertising.

The PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) has taken out an ad in USA Today hoping to debunk the premise that dairy contributes to weight loss. Taking a punt at Dr. Phil's "Got Milk" ads: You don’t mince words, so neither will we. Your milk mustache ads are dishonest and do a huge disservice to the public.
