A randomized trial has compared Atkins, Zone Diet, Ornish, and LEARN. Over a period of 12 months weight loss on Atkins was significantly greater than the other three diets. Those using Atkins also "experienced more favorable overall metabolic effects".

Whether you're for them or against them, we've all heard about low-carb diets such as Atkins and what they can do for weight loss. While this is really a personal preference, it now turns out, after reviewing research about low-carb versus low fat diets, that diets such as Atkins can be beneficial for those with metabolic syndrome.

Atkins Nutritionals have emerged from bankruptcy - and are clearly placing themselves as another "bar and shake" company. It is quite unfortunate that the name Atkins is even attached to the company. There are already hundreds of vendors out there hawking protein bars in various forms. Ironically, back in August 2005 (when Atkins announced bankruptcy) Diet-Blog asked the question "Will Atkins become another small-time bar and shake company - peddling high protein bars?" I guess we have our answer.
