“Drunkorexia” is a new slang term that describes the practice of restricting food intake in order to drink more alcohol.
You won’t find this one in any manual for diagnosing health disorders (or mental disorders.) The Morning Show ran a piece on it that looked exclusively at how this practice affects women.
Statistics suggest that 30% of 18-24 year-olds skip food in order to drink more. My guess is A LOT of sorority sisters fit the bill! In recent years, binge-drinking patterns among young women have grown to match that of men. In order to maintain weight, many young women will go without meals if anticipating a drinking session later on.
It’s no laughing matter. Just looking at college students only – over 1,400 18-24 year-olds lose their lives each year due to alcohol-related injuries.
And heavy drinking is already a major problem in this age group. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), many young people, especially college students, engage in binge drinking.
Binge drinking is heavy drinking in a short period of time. The CDC defines a binge drinker as men who consume five or more drinks and women who consume four or more drinks within two hours
Also, excessive alcohol consumption is a form of self-medication that is very hard on the body. Sadly many people have decided that they are not able to “have fun” without being intoxicated.
The most interesting people you meet in life are those who are crazy and fun while being stone-cold sober. Never a dull moment.
And booze and diet inspired one beer drinker to create is own diet plan. Founder Bradley Cailor calls it the “Beer Drinker’s Diet,” aptly named. The gist of his diet is eating smaller portions of the foods you enjoy and leaving plenty of room for beer. He claims he lost over 100 pounds doing this; just call him the crown prince of drunkorexia.

That is why you legalize marijuana, Idiots. “Let’s make the worst-for-you ‘party’ drug the only one legal. Yeah, this is for sure the least harmful option. Idiotic country.
I must say that I have been doing that for some time now. I heard about “Drunkorexia” on the doctors, and I wanted to know some more about it. I don’t eat dinner or something before I start drinking, and this is because that I can then drink less and I will not get sick that easy.
That’s the way it is with me…I recently turned 21 but even before that, the last four years since high school have been constant drinking and partying and I have found that I lost my appetite quite frequently. I suppose it’s time I stop :/
Do you constantly find yourself not eating just so you can drink more? Are you obsessed with partying and drinking and would rather have fun at night than eat during the day? Do you like the intoxicated feeling you get from drinking on an empty stomach as well as the ability to not gain weight? Are you battling an obsession with drinking but disgusted by food? If you are struggling with drunkorexia and this sounds like you, Gigantic! Productions wants to hear your story.
If you appear to be between the ages of 16 and 23, please email casting@gigantic.tv with details. Please include your name, location, phone number, and photograph if possible.
I agree. Some people don’t splurge due to money issues, or because they aren’t hungry enough to buy into a big dinner…this may render the statistics no good. Surely there are men/women who are eating too little and drinking too much. Can we categorize all of these people into an eating disorder/economic category?! I think not…

well.. i think im a drunkorexic..during usual days i don’t eat and sleep..then after that, party hard..i don’t eat because lack of money..i don’t sleep cause we party all night..i usually drink a lot and eat nothing..but i don’t think of losing or gaining weight..is that considered drunkorexic?.
I did this and ate just lunch almost every day for close to a year but never to keep my calorie or carb intake down, I did it so I could get drunk with just one handle of tequila. If I hadn’t of done this, I would have had to spend twice the money every night. I’ve been sober almost a year now and unfortunately gained a ton of weight!
I’m so shocked there is a name for this problem….I have been doing this for the last 6 months and lost 50 pounds…my hubby makes jokes about Vodka not being a food group. I drink cause I know I will ignore my hunger therefor I don’t eat I just drink. And the pounds fall off. Or I’m just too hung over to eat food every day.
I’m not a college student, I’m a Air Force Veteran of the Gulf war and a mother of three. I know that I probably am an alcoholic…been drinking for the last year since my Suburban got repo’d but the last 6 months I have decide I was a fat pig and didn’t deserve to eat all that food, so I turned to my Vodka bottle. It numbs me, I don’t get hungry and I find ways to entertain myself here alone all day and all night while the kids do their thing and hubby works two 40 hour a week jobs. It’s just me a the three dogs, no friends, waiting for the kids to come home by curfew and hubby to get home at midnight.
Well actually, for me, college was getting ready for medical school! I waited until I became a doctor to start taking risks and doing stupid things
This is for sure true, Im in college now, and im pretty small. when i saw this article I was really surprised that this is more popular. But its so true, I know friends that wont eat before a night of drinking, and by a night of drinking i mean the entire weekend (thirsty thursday, fucked up friday and shwasted saturday, and the occasional toasted tuesday:wine) and once your drunk you usually don’t think to eat. And it isss a weight issue. The next day you feel so skinny and you don’t want to eat to feel bloated and you plan on going to drink later anyways. Its an effective way to lose too much weight fast… although super stupid, dangerous and deadly.A friend lost 15 pounds in a month. Thats college..taking risks and doing stupid things.
