I just did the calorie calculator, and to lose weight (which I don't want to do, I just need to tone up), it says less than 1400 calories a day for me. I would starve. I can't imagine that.
I am breastfeeding still, though, and I wish there was a calculator that takes that into account. I know I've heard to add 500 calories a day, roughly, for breastfeeding moms, but I don't know if that figure is only for infants, or if there is some formula based on the child's age, nursing frequency, etc.
I suppose it's mostly "eat to hunger" if you are at a healthy weight. The 2,000-2,200 calories a day for me (maintenance plus 500 for breastfeeding) seems about right, and is about what I get when I track my calories, so I guess I'm doing it right.
Replyenjoy food for taste, fill up with water. french women don't get fat, written by a french woman, who as a high school exchange student, came to America for a year, and, SURPRISE, got fat. she went back home and her shocked father said, you look like a sack of potatoes. the family doctor knew how to take care of her, and with the strategies of the french, she became slim again. learn to enjoy food without being a pig. here in America, we supersize. And WE are supersized. well, you are what you eat.
Replyif you eat to fill yourself up, you are eating too much, especially if it is high calorie/low nutrient stuff. use water to fill up!
Replyif you do the all you can eat, you will pay the price!
Replywhat do french women eat?
Replyit is stupid to say an entire nationality of women eats better and doesn't get fat. if you go to france, yes, you will see plenty of fat women. the rest of the world is supersizing as well.
Replyi need help how can i lose weight i need something too tell me wat to eat or do please i need help
ReplyIt's very difficult to provide an 100% foolproof estimate of daily calories for each person - but the calculator takes a best guess. We all have unique situations (such as your breastfeeding) and other hormonal and metabolic factors.
The idea with estimating calories is to give something a go. If it works - don't change it - if it's not working -- then time to try something new.

ReplyI agree with Judy's comment: calorie calculators that take into account pregnancy and (especially) breastfeeding would be really helpful.
Replyit do help a lot
ReplyBreastfeeding was great for me! If you keep your calorie intake at around 2000 (and who has time to sit around and eat a large meal w/ a tiny tot anyway) and exercise you'll lose weight very quickly. I walked about a mile a day with my daughter from 2 weeks to 4 months. I would put her in a snuggli and go around the neightborhood. It stimulated her sense of sight and hearing and being attached to me would put her asleep by the time I got back. It was wonderful. I got down to below my pre-baby weight by the time she was 6 weeks.
Replywow, I'm glad I stumbled upon this site, especially this article. tons of useful information for me to stay positive and continue my struggle of staying healthy and living better.
thanx
ReplyWelcome to you! Hope you continue to join the conversations.
ReplyI like the different names for sugar tips. I really hate how the food industry has so few limitations on how they can hide or disguise certain harmful sugars or additives.

2. exercises four time a week.
3. drink lots of water.
4. stoping eating meat and eat fish, because meat has more fat than anything else.

ReplyIt's like you are trying to make a person starve themselves! Too much water can flood your body. Eating candy and sweets are okay in moderation, or eat small amounts of it. The problem in America is that some people don't know how to read serving sizes and over eat. What they need to do is follow the food guide pyramid. Exercise everyday and keep your calories a day 2000. For teens, it is 1500. What a person can do is eat less and burn more.
