How could you add Lucky Charms to this list lol. Anyone that would eat that garbage for breakfast, or anytime of the day is not concerned about their health and well-being. This list is horrible.

hahaha, very true! But the list was supposed to illustrate that the top 10 low calorie isn’t necessarily the top 10 healthiest. :-)

the people who did this article must have been asleep at the wheel. Arrowhead Mills makes terrific cereals with no salt or sugar added, i.e., puffed corn, puffed wheat, puffed kahmut, puffed rice, 60 calories a cup. By the way, the puffed corn takes just like popcorn!

People, you are not going to loose weight by following this advice related to breakfast cereal. Low fat cereal or even low sugar cereal is not the picture you need to be completely concerned with. ALL cereal is HIGH CARBOHYDRATES , ALL of it. Look at the labels. Most are 25 – 50 grams of carbohydrates in 1/2 to 1 cup of cereal. Plus you have to add the carbohydrates of the milk.

A cereal bowl will usually hold 2 -3 cups of cereal, this means you will have to multiply the breakfast cereal you are consuming, plus the milk. Cheereos is most likely the lowest in carbohydrates (about 20 carbs per cup), Add to that the carbs from 1% milk which is about 13 grams and you are right at 33 grams per cup. multiply that times 2 and you are at 66 grams of carbs per bowl of cheereos.

You will never loose weight on a diet which has this many refined carbohydrates, ever! This is the myth that many manufacturers of breakfast cereal and other fast morning foods want you to think. They focus you on fat and sugar contend but tend to ignore the carbohydrates. Focus on total carbohydrates and fat intake, its these two together which will reduce your daily intake of foods which cause obesity. Worse the make up of these foods (refined carbohydrates) leads to type II diabetes.

Lets look at Kashi go lean crunch, sounds wonderful right? Well it contains 37 grams of carbohydrates in one cup of cereal. even if you account for the 8 grams of fiber, the cereal retains 29 net carbohydrates per cup. If you add 1% percent milk to that the count is now 42 carbohydrates per cup. And finally if you have a bowl full of this wonderful cereal, its between 84 and 126 carbohydrates per bowl. Its self defeating to add this to your diet and think that it will help you loose weight. Worse yet. the refined carbohydrates in cereal actually make you more hungry.

Research foods which are low in carbohydrates and fat, you will need to change you daily diet in order to perform this, as most prepackaged foods are very high in carbohydrates. Why do you think most Americans are over weight?

I am on a low carb diet and have lost alot of weight. For breakfast try oatmeal and add cinnamon and microwave 2.5 minutes. Add splenda, almonds, and milk. Delicious and very filling!

Good for you losing weight, but cut out the artificial sweeteners ASAP! They are cancer causing and can also lead to weight gain. Don’t let the low calorie label lure you in, ARTIFICIAL is all around BAD FOR YOU.

Great blog. I really liked it. I have also created a lens in same niche. This is my first time, hope u guys like it. Here’s a brief intro: With all low carb diets claiming success, it can be hard to pick the perfect low carb diet for you. Are all low carb diets the same? What is the difference among all low carb diets? It can be confusing with all low carb diets, products and plans you see out there. Luckily, thousands of people have been trying all low carb diets for years now, and almost all low carb diets have well known pluses and minuses. http://www.squidoo.com/All-low-carb-diets/

Puffins rock! Like 90 (regular) cals per serving and 100 cal for the cinnamon ones and they have like 5 g of fiber for cinnamon(not the peanut butter type, they’ve like no fiber at all) and they’re organic of course. Excellent snackage, kid friendly too.

Okay, fair call. It ain’t no advertisement. No one here at Diet Blog compiled this list — this is from a review site.

I guess I made a wrong step here — but thought the list (and the attached reviews) might be useful to someone.

I think J. Foster should take a stroll down the breakfast isle. This list is totally bogus. Obviously it is meant as a means of advertisement. I would like to see a list of the Top 10 Nutritious Breakfast Cereals. But only if it is well researched and true! I’m sticking with my Raisin Nut Bran! :)

Does anyone care about fiber or carbs? Carbs counts are driven down by fiber, 5 gms or more of fiber and those grams can be DEDUCTED from carb count! Good deal.

Um… I don’t trust this list, since I know that regular, unsweetened puffed kashi only has 70 calories per cup. I’ll usually mix it with something heartier because I need way more than that at breakfast, but the fact that it’s not even on the list? And no regular cheerios? No wonder this list makes it look like all cereal has tons of sugar – they’re only showing sweetened cereal!

I love real oatmeal (ie, made the old-fashioned way, not instant). Something about oatmeal that has cooked low and slow for a long time…mmmmmmmmmmm. And yes, I can sweeten it to my taste–with Splenda or with real honey or with fruit. I eat oatmeal several times a week. Love the stuff since I was a kid and my mom would make it with milk rather than water. I like making it with half/half water to milk.

And fruit on top. Mmmm. And cinnmon. Mmmmm.

I also like Kashi’s Puffs and Cheerios. I cannot get those high-fiber ones down–like Fiber One. Urp.

Ha! I should tell my dad about this list. He NEVER let us get Lucky Charms because “it’s like eating a bowl of marshmallows and that’s not healthy”, lol. I actually don’t eat cold cereal much anymore, but when I do eat it, I usually get Special K with red berries for 110 calories/serving.

Personally, I think the count should have been done by weight and not volume to be more accurate.

For example, 30g of cheerios is about 100 cal. while 30g of Fiber One is about 60 cal.

I’m flabbergasted that Lucky Charms makes the list, but Raisin Bran doesnt. At least Raisin Bran has as much fiber as Lucky Charms has sugar…I’m not planning on swtiching anytime soon.

Original Rice Krispies are only 120 cal per 1.5 cups (33g), with just 3g sugar so this beats the top one on the list (info from the US Rice Krispie site. The UK-made ones I have give very similar nutritional data).
