The Baby Food Diet

i-21b239c1c1e3790f38e6e8da3f696279-babyfood.jpgMenswear designer Hedi Slimane creates slim-fitting clothes – probably because he is rather thin himself. The Telegraph reports that his ‘secret’ is baby food.

“The less I chew, the better,” he tells one interviewer. Chicken, according to rumour, is his favourite flavour.

The Telegraph writer then goes on to try his own baby food diet.

As I trawl the baby-food section of my local supermarket, I have no sense of impending doom. Fisherman’s pie. Vegetable hotpot. Fruity chicken casserole. Banana and cookie crumble. Yes, it’s baby food but the labels on the bottles sound reassuringly like real food. Organic baby food seems to outnumber non-organic by two to one.

Hey… whatever works I guess…

The results:

I have lost 4lb over the weekend, according to the bathroom scales. But the inside of my mouth taste’s like cat’s fur and my head aches. I would not recommend this regime to my worst enemy.

    I’m 5’2 200lbs and I’m only 23. I’d give anything to be 140lbs again.

Baby food is great for traveling; some of the fruit stuff and some vegetable taste very good. Not a bad idea to include it when camping or long journeys.

So any baby food works? Aren’t there 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels of baby food? Any of those you can eat and it really doesn’t matter? The thought of eating baby food is rather weird. But hey, a lot of people are saying it’s working.

I am amazed that people are falling for this ‘new diet’
So today I deliberately looked at the cost of baby food in the supermarket, I would suggest people try walking down the fruit and veg aisles. In the end you will buy more make more and store more for less than the cost of all those jars of baby food.
But if you really want the baby food consistency then cook it and blend it.
By using smaller than your usual portion size containers, you instantly have a controlled size meal.

I definately gonna start this diet tomorrow. I bought one big box of Farley’s baby biscuits, apple flavored.
Was i buying the wrong baby food? Or should i buy the powder form? You know, where you have to add water to serve? I need suggestions please,
    Thanks

I’m currently trying to lose a few pounds and tone up, nothing more. I naturally have a large appetite, and get giddy if I don’t eat regularly. I’ve made my main meals much healthier and have replaced almost all of my snacks with fruit, but I still have a really strong sweet tooth. Problem is, if I ‘relapse’ and want an unhealthy snack, I end up doing it ‘in style’ and consuming tons of calories! I’ve found chocolate pudding baby food to be a fantastic sweet fix in the evenings – it’s only about 85 calories a jar and it’s really tasty! And it means I don’t end up feeling guilty all night! I’d really recommend it as a way to control sweet cravings, especially if you’ve only just started dieting :)

    Hi Claire,
I am just curious because I have a lot to lose and would like to give it a kick start. I have read many comments about this here. What causes the gas and headaches with this diet? There is less sugar, less processing in this. There should be less gas, not more. And why headaches? You seem to know alot about this so Im asking you (you also seem more well balanced, not riled up easily). Thanks in advance for your help.

I am on this diet; I eat the baby oatmeal mixed with fruit 4os and another jar of fruit giving me a total of 8 oz for breakfast. then at lunch I will have a jar or turkey or chicken mixed with a vegetable and another jar of fruit like the berries or apples and pears giving me another 8 oz. then for dinner I will eat a normal dinner with my family such as skinless chicken breast, fish or lean beef the size of my palm and a cup of vegetables steamed. Still cutting my portion back at dinner, I have lost five pounds this week alone.
I have 2 snacks a day of raw cucumbers sliced or raw carrots, cauliflower or other raw veggie, only a cups worth. By eating in this fashion I am shrinking my stomach and getting use to the portion size, you must know that a baby can’t handle all the nasty preservatives that is in adult take out foods or pre-packaged foods that you find in the grocery store, therefore being it is natural and free of chemicals, the portion size is what we should be eating rather than the oversized portions that we have been use to over the years.
I also walk to get my exercise, I am a woman who started this diet at 220 LBS, had no energy and no desire to exercise. I feel great and I am sticking to it. Baby food is a very inexpensive diet that clearly re trains your mind and body how to eat, 4 oz portions is a better way to go then the super sized way of eating. I have also started a journal by using word and keeping it on my desk top so I can see what my progress is doing.

I would suggst the 4 ingredient diabetic cook book. My husband was a diabetic with an A1C of 15!!! i started cooking two meals a day from that book replacing the artificail sweeteners with either stevia or regular sugar, he would eat cereal for breakfast on week days (look at the protion siz for cereal he ate about 2 a day) and somthing special on weekends his A1C is now 8.5 and his blood tests say he is only lacking in vitamin D ( He never sees the sunlight lol)

Thanks for the info on the baby food diet, pity I didn,t find this site a bit earlier!
I have been on four bottles of formula a day for a week now and have gained 5lbs !!!
The side effects are not good either, wind, aching jaws (all that sucking) and funny looks from my wife.

I think i may try just eating healthy and less.
    kind regards Mike

I was thinking of doing this diet. One of my friends from work had a throat infection and couldn’t eat solids for a week. She lost like seven pounds. The only question I have is: Is it safe? Three baby food jars a day, one for breakfast, one for lunch and one for dinner can add up to only 180 calories. Isn’t that low? If not can anyone tell me how many calories a day you need to survive? I’m highly interested in this diet and just want some facts before I start something I might regret in the future.

    James,
I would recommend you check facts before blathering about health topics you know nothing about. There is nothing WRONG with “starchy” foods, as long as they are not consumed excessively. You say to completely avoid the white potato. Do you have any idea of the health benefits of the potato? If not, do some research: http://hubpages.com/hub/Health-Benefits-of-White-Potato.

Also, while I usually buy organic, there is no need to preach to people to always buy organic. You only need to buy organic fruits and vegetables that dont’ have a protective “skin”. There is no difference between oranges or bananas that are organic or non organic. The peel protects the actual fruit, so it makes no difference. Please stop spouting personal opinion as fact people should follow. Thanks

I am currently on a baby food diet by force because I had some dental work performed and I don’t want to cause any infections. As a suggestion you can add seasoning such as Mrs. Dash which has No MSG so that that the food is not so gross to the pallet. Happy dieting!

Wow Samantha. calm down. If they want to go on this diet, and it really works for them, then who are you to tell them to grow up? I do agree that eating ONLY babyfood EVERY day seems a little weird, but incorporating it into your diet isn’t going to harm anyone. Baby foods are packed with vitamins and minerals, and saves your body from having to break down foods every now and then. So using baby food as a healthy snack every now and then won’t hurt anyone. If it was that harmful, would you be feeding it to your babies? probably not. baby food in moderation will not hurt you.

I think that you are all crazy, “the baby food diet” i have 2 children and all the food is mingin, wouldnt you just rather starve yourselves for like two weeks. Its called baby food for a reason, its for babies!, do you know, they are them things that cry and wear nappies. Grow up, your not babies, just go on a controlled diet and except your problem, i wanted to lose weight and i ate healthy (adult food) cut out all the snacks and did exercise reguarly. Your body is gonna be so unhealthy.
