How Much Does Barbie Weigh?
Who knows and who really cares?
However we do know one thing.
The set of toy scales that come with a certain Barbie doll only go up to 110 lbs.

That sure sends a certain message. Only 110 pounds? Wow...
ReplyThat's kind of scary
ReplyGee - you would think that with all the media coverage and public discussion of the body image of women, models dying of starvation etc, Mattel would get a clue!
Also, I think Barbie is fairly tall - I'd guess around 5'8", 5'9"? Hmm... 110 pounds at 5'8"... that sounds perfectly healthy to me. Not.
I hope parents boycott this particular Barbie.
Replymore like 7'2"
Replyin order to walk she would have to crawl on all fours because her feet are so small and not able to carry the weight of her boobs. she would have an extremely tiny waist line and her boobs would knock her over!
Barbie's boobs must be 10 pounds all in themselves.
ReplyThe BMI for plastic is different.
ReplyI've read that if Barbie were real, the lenght of her legs in proportion to the torso would make her unable to walk, so I don't think her BMI is the main concern here.
ReplyBut what ages would be using the scale? That is my first thought about it stopping at 110... seems realistic to me.
Of course, I outgrew Barbie when I was 5.
ReplyI think the cost of the scale is a factor here too. You can use cheaper parts if it's only rated for 110 lbs.
Reply...anything to suck a buck out of the parents.
ReplyWait wait wait....the scale is a toy to "weigh" the Barbie or it is a real scale to measure the kids playing with the Barbie?
Either way, it's sick but the second option is WAY sicker. WTF?
ReplyI was thinking the same thing. If it IS the second option, there are going to be some pretty messed-up little girls out there pretty soon. I guess they figure most little girls that play with Barbies are less than 110, but that's not always true.
Oh, BTW...if Barbie were real, she'd be 6'11" tall with an 18" waist and 38" hips. I can't remember how big her boobs would be though...definitely a bit unrealistic, to say the least.
Replybarbie was a real person.. but just looked absolutley nothing like the actual doll. she seemed pretty pessimistic about the whole self conciousness over a doll

i agree with her. if people are getting self concious of a childs toy, they have serious problems.
ReplyGee, I wonder why bulimia and anorexia run rampant...

Nearly 7 feet tall?!? My estimate was way off! Hmm... nearly 7 feet tall and weighing 110 pounds. Totally realistic.
Nic - I'm pretty sure the scale is a non-working toy scale to "weigh" Barbie. At least I hope so.
ReplyI'm glad I was almost done playing with dolls when Barbie got here. I had a ton of Susi dolls instead, and they are not as skinny and big breasted.
Here is one in 70s garb (I think I had that exact one). A doll with calves and thighs, how unusual.

Of course, the current Susi went through a weight loss process:
