The FDA has finally added its voice to the furore over the so-called Brazilian Diet Pills. The pills are named either Emagrece Sim or Herbathin. Whilst claiming to be made from all-natural herbal products – they are most definitely not dietary supplements.
Both products are made in Brazil by Fitoterapicos (also spelled Fytoterapicos) and Phytotherm Sim. FDA has increased its efforts to prevent the importation of these products by issuing an alert to its field personnel.
After testing – the diet pills were found to contain any of the following:
- Chlordiazepoxide HCl (the active ingredient in Librium)
- Fluoxetine HCl (the active ingredient in Prozac)
- Fenproporex, a stimulant that is not approved for marketing in the United States. Fenproporex is converted in the body to amphetamine, and as a result has been noted to show up in urinalysis as a positive test for amphetamines.
It seems the two companies acting as importers for the pills will do their best to remain scarce:
The FDA said the pills are imported and distributed by two Florida companies, Emagrece Sim Laboratories Inc. of Miami, and EMIEX Corp. of Doral, Fla. No telephone listing for Emagrece Sim Laboratories Inc. could be found.
UPDATE Emagrece sim are still advertising their product in the US using Spanish radio.They claim that their products are FDA approved.
This is not true.
Has anyone visited the NY place in Spanish, are they still selling the pills?
Has anyone tried to buy the pills in Ny emagrece site in spanish? It seems to work, but I wonder if they are selling the real pills.

I have taken Emagrece Sim and lost 30lbs in about 3 months. They felt fine, no jitters, or over energy or anything bad….they actual worked well for many people I know….as soon as there is something that works, its taken off the market so u can spend ur money on pills that don’t work and they make more money that way…its simple as that…Fat people/over weight people make the wrold go around…who wants everyone to be healthy and skinny and eating healty….just my opinion…Rica
I have taken two different types of the Emagrece and haven’t lost a pound. Got them off of e-bay. Where is everyone getting the real stuff – or at least the kind that people say that they are taking that they are losing weight with?

I took jlk78 advice and did a ebay search for emagrece sim. I came across a product called NutriHERB that could be just as effective as Emagrece Sim. Amazingly they have a page on the web site titled Herb Safety. A very informative website. It reminds me of that teacher that came up with that herbal supplement for colds “Airbourn” only this product is for weight loss. I think I am going to put a bid on this product.
I was taking the Emagrece Sim, but I stopped taking them. There is no way for us to know what is really in them from Brazil. One report showed traces of rat poisoning in some of the pills.

the site NY emagrecesim seems to be open in Spanish, if you go to google and type “emagrece sim en espanol” you will find the same web site; however in English is closed.
