The Reverse Diet Solution
Tricia Cunningham's weight loss method of eating meals in reverse has created quite a stir.
So much that Tricia has written her own book: The Reverse Diet Solution.
A number of weight loss diets call for a tapering of carbohydrates during the day (i.e. eat most carbohydrate in the morning, and the least at night). Many people go even further to say that we shouldn't eat after 7pm.
Does Tricia's regime taper carbohydrates in the opposite way?
Is it that the body likes to have changes in order to break plateaus? Does the diet help because people eat more protein in the mornings (most people tend to eat very carb-heavy breakfasts - sugary cereals, toast, milk, fruit, etc)?
Here are some answers:
Don't Eat:
Salt, sugar, alcohol, caffeine and carbonated beverages.
Do Eat:
- All vegetables, fresh and frozen, including potatoes
- Extra virgin olive oil (the darker, the better)
- All seafood, chicken and turkey
- All berries, peaches, pineapple, apples, grapes and plums
- Eggs
- Lemons
- White cheese
- Fat-free sour cream, salad dressing and skim milk
- Low-sodium margarine
- GARLIC, GARLIC, GARLIC
- All spices, excluding salt, read your labels!
- Post Shredded Wheat and Bran
- Uncooked Old Fashion Oatmeal
- Orange juice
- Red meat and pasta, in moderation and small portions
Tips:
- Eat a BIG breakfast.
- If you don't normally eat breakfast, take tonight's dinner and put it in the refrigerator and have your breakfast for dinner. This will jump-start your metabolism so fast, you'll be running to the scale!
- Never skip breakfast.
- Don't overeat. Save leftovers for snacks.
- Eat a medium lunch and small dinner. You do not need to fill up at the end of the day.
- Use water, margarine, olive oil or orange juice when preparing meat.
- Drink two glasses of hot lemon water per day.
- Drink when you're thirsty. Don't force eight to 10 glasses of water per day.
- Eat when you're hungry
Tricia Cunningham also enjoys loads of tofu and eats 3-4 servings per day. See Tricia's complete shopping list here.

Understand that anything new and exciting is like a toy at Christmas..... You play with it and if you like it and can stick with it it is yours for life, however, if you have no interest in its effect you put it down and say,"I did not like it anyway."
To follow the Reverse Diet Solution Plan you must be willing to change your life and your eating habits... You can not expext to continue the same bad habits and lose weight. It would be like a bank robber taking his mask off before a hiest... you are going to fail at your mission.
I was knocked from the get go on my plan. I had no support, family/friends, or a true written plan to do what I did. I took one for the team, so to speak, to be able to answer every question asked.
If you want to change your bad habits, be accountable for your own actions, and lose weight & be healthy and happy, then the Reverse Diet Solution is for you. If not, do what feels comfortable to you.
I am here to help those who are willing to help themselves.
Best Wishes

I don't compare my body or eating habits to a CHRISTMAS TOY! I don't know anyone that thinks they can continue eating the same exact way as lose weight. If we all thought that then the diet industry would not be as large as it is.
There are many rip off companies on the market looking to make a fast buck off of people looking for a quick fix. At this time it appears some of the backwards diet by this woman has been put out for no money. However, no where has anyone seen all of the diet. All anyone has is bits and pieces.
I belonged to a nice group of people where Tricia Cunningham posted as various people giving more hype to the diet. In several of the posts she used langauage not appropriate for public. Unfortunately, I have gone back several times and it seems this group has disbanded.
This woman who has claimed to lose a pound a day in 40 days and yet more weight in less than 9 months. The group I was on no one was losing a pound per day! It is a miracle only this woman can lose a pound per day.
Would you go on a diet that promised a pound per day loss? I tried it and it did not happen! Again, I didn't compare my body to a Christmas Toy and desire to eat all the foods prior to starting the diet.
Another thing why should I have to belong to group, call someone on the phone daily to report in or get more information on the diet? Is this an ego trip for this woman? Is she lonely? Why would anyone want people calling them daily asking about the diet? My only guess is she needs to FEED her EGO, She needs to be wanted.
For all of you looking for a diet, this is not the one. Please go to Weight Watchers group meeting or try South Beach or Atkins or Ediets. All of the information is out there, and as far as I know you won't need to call someone daily to get the diet as the days progress.
ReplyHello Debbie,
I would like to clearify a few things that may have been misunderstood.
Fact 1. The group...Reverse Diet...was NOT my group and I never used inappropriate language, in fact the group was disolved by Yahoo themselves because of the misuse of my name, company, and trademarks.
Fact 2. My plan has been around for 6 years and has only gone national and international in the recent year.
Fact 3. The concept behind The Reverse Diet is an education about eating habits and for life- this is not a fad diet and nor can it be compared to such.
Fact 4. You will never read a comment in which there is any claim to a 1 pound per day weight loss. I will back up the claim that 2 to 3 pounds of fat loss per week is a safe claim, although, typically the losses on this plan are greater. I had a significant amount of weight to lose and that attributed to the accelerated loss in the begining, however, the fact that I kept it off for 6 years is the key factor!
Fact 5. There are thousands of individuals that I have helped and will continue to help through out my life. I, unlike most diet authors, have left myself accessable to my clients for their special needs. I could never take a daily call from everyone, hoever, I do try to help those who need a more personal touch. I was a former hospice nurse and helping people is my life. I gain serenity in knowing one person has been inspired by my story to help themselves.
Fact 6. This is not your typical diet, it is a lifestyle change. There are three phases to the plan- 1-weight loss, 2-stabilizing the loss and the introduction of your former foods, 3-Maintaining your goals and utilizing your knowledge.
"No one wakes up in the morning, looks in the mirror and says,'I want to gain a 150 pounds and I am going to start right now.'". We all have our reasons as to why it is there and the Reverse Diet will help you go from here on...For LIFE.
Best wishes,
Tricia Cunningham

I think this diet is crazy and just a passing Fad.
Debbie good to see you again! Hope Paul came through his surgery?????? I know it has been a stressful summer for you. I wondered where you had gone. I'll send you a link to the group.

ReplyI am on the Reverse Diet Solution.I started the diet weighing 268lbs. I have tried all the others even pills. I have never lost weight and inches before this fast. I am healthy I eat all the food groups except red meat. I love the diet. I have lost 20lbs in one month. The group gives not only recipes and shopping list it give encoragement too. We those of us in the group give help to each other. This is the best plan I have ever been on and you don't have to buy books or meals or bars or pills to do it. It is a very healthy eating plan. Go look it over I challenge you to try it before you knock it. It really works. We do eat tofu but thats good for you too if you know how to cook with it. I use it in fruit smoothies and its wonderful thanks to Tricia I have a future without paying $50k for by pass surgery.
ReplyKelsmom, I've been reading your posts at the group and you aren't doing very well on this program. You said yourself in a post that you haven't stuck to the diet for over 2 weeks. This being the case I would say this is a FAD diet and you have gotten caught up in the Fad. I guess your diet success with this program was very short lived.
Someone suggested Weight Watchers. I think that is the way to go. Kelsmom, I suggest WW to you, then you won't then you can continue to lose weight the healthy way.

ReplyThis sounds like a very interesting diet program. I think it has a lot to do with changing your habits. I don't think you'd lose weight on it if you really did eat the same thing you normally eat, but in reverse. Calories consumed are calories consumed, no matter when you eat them. But I can see how eating protein and veggies in the morning would make you less hungry during the morning (less likely to snack) and eating a light dinner of eggs or a bowl of cereal would be good for your digestion while you sleep. So as long as you make pretty good choices, I could see this being a pretty okay diet.
