I Want a Flat Stomach!

How many times is that statement made?

eDiets has an interesting Q&A on the subject. A 14 year old girl is obsessed with wanting that “flat stomach” that every woman “seems” to have. The answer is great:

So what to do? PLEASE understand that flat stomachs are not the norm. It’s simply how magazines airbrush the models to make them appear as though their stomach is completely flat. You have organs inside your body and unless your genetics are such, a flat tummy (no matter how fit you are) may just not be in the stars for you.

The magazines preach and preach. The women in them are androgenous – flat angles and bones. Don’t believe the hype.

    YES Lauren.

I consider your comments to be an end to the matter. Great advice.

Girls – STOP ASKING THE SAME QUESTION OVER AND OVER.

As you can see, this thread as become rather extensive, and many people have given some very helpful and accurate advice. Besides the moron who said something
pro-starvation. And girls, this is the internet.
It is chock full of ways to get thinner, especially
sites for fitness magazines like Shape or Fitness.
Better yet, pick up those magazines out of the library
every once and a while. It will give you good, healthy
suggestions, as well as inspire you to do something.

Doing a skillion crunches a day will accomplish zilch
unless you don’t need to lose weight. If you do, don’t
bother much with the ab exercises, just focus on the
cardio. Running is something anyone can do anywhere.

Don’t: use celebrities as a reference. Don’t idolize
your ‘perfect’ classmates. And don’t obssess. It will
only makes things worse and psychologically screw you up.

Do: eat. Skipping meals causes your body to store fat,
not lose it. Eat smaller meals throughout the day,
that way, you burn off the smaller portions as the
day progresses. Do cardio. Do love yourself. Do commit
to something; there are no quick fixes. The one’s people
do manage to think up end up putting them in the hospital.
And do work on your spelling and grammar. The average
guy is no Nick Lachey – they like smarts too you know.
