Coke Zero: Confused Anyone?

Coke Zero is sweetened with aspartame and acesulfame potassium (ace-k) and has zero calories. Artificial Sweeteners are thought to be safe, although some people believe they are unsafe. Splenda, in particular, is viewed as unhealthy by some.
The main chemical difference between Coke Zero and Diet Coke is that Coke Zero has about half the aspartame but has more ace-k.
Confused anyone?
It's a marketing thing - Coca Cola have manufactured a "diet" coke without using the word diet... which in their eyes will appeal to a different demographic (specifically men).

Take this short test to see how much you actually know. There is no Coke sweetened with Stevia. Coca-cola have been working on a brand of Stevia called Truvia - the sweetener has not yet found its way into any Coke formulation.

I have a question- what makes a soda diet? I was in Whole Foods yesterday and saw Diet Steaz which had something like 60 calories in a bottle. While is this diet? What is low cal? Are these terms just marketing spin or are there standards?
Any insight into what makes a product diet would be welcomed.
ReplyTechnically speaking, diet just has to mean a product is free of something - usually sugar. Calories don't have to be reduced. So for example is the Steaz is made with fruit juice, but no sugar is added, it can be high-calorie and diet. Diet chocolate, for diabetics, is usually higher-calorie than regular, although it has no sugar. And you can have diet condiments which just don't have salt, for example.
Light is a product that has a reduction of at least 30% (I think it is 30% - could be 25%?) in either sugar, fat, or calories.
ReplyYou all are on the internet. Do a search and see how drinking soda pop over time and it's effect on the human body. And diet sodas do more damage than regular sodas. A lot of you like bashing people who are just trying to enlighten you to the truth, and that is totally ignorant. Do your own research, because you are killing yourself slowly by drinking soda, especially diet soda.
ReplyI love splenda its a shame they went with zero, apsterime gives me a headache still but zero tastes better than posiony diet drinks.
Diet RC with splenda is great but hard to find in the area so I have a choice of zero or reg soda, I tend to mix reg and zero when I can, or just drink ice tea I make myself.
I am slowly loathing retail products mass marketed to witless sheeple, the contracts with sweetner companys is more profitable to them than making something alil more heathery.... altho i bet in 10 years splenda will be found to be "bad" LOL.
ReplyI've been trying to lose weight, and so will only drink diet. The weight wasn't coming off,and then I read that aspartame can hinder weight loss. I started reading the labels and staying away from aspartame. It seemed to make a diff with my quest, but guess what? Splenda, the only alternative I've found, aparantly causes severe bladder irritation; feels just like an infection, but can be remedied just by drinking a ton of water. I can, however, drink sweet-n-low which is saccahrin, ye old stand-by from 40 years! I use it in my tea. Unfortunately, a diet pop sweetened with saccahrin is not to be found.
ReplyShoot, I would just love a cold carbonated drink!
The waiters in Paris are pushing Coke Zero, saying it doesn't have Aspartame. They describe it as being "unsweetened" which is of course mighty silly. Still people try and look up the information later. We found it did have less (1/2) than Diet Coke but also this ace-k which may taste better but is just another sweetener.
Water, Juice, Coffee, Beer, Wine - probably all better choices
Replyi do not drink diet since my weight is normal. I think if you are going to be on a diet just stay away from diet products since they do not taste the same and many ingredients are not good for you. I drink water most of the time its much healthier.
ReplyI had always been disappointed with the taste of Diet Coke. I often asked myself why they didn't just put the same flavors in Diet Coke they put in real Coke. It seemed simple enough. Well, I saw this Coke Zero and tried it. I started laughing just for pleasure--I had not done that since I was a kid--it tasted just like real Coke!! In fact, it tastes so much like real Coke, I feel guilty like I'm drinking the real stuff. I am still a little cautious with it, tho, because it does contain caffeine which makes me jittery. I hope it comes out in decaf. Then it will become the only pop I drink.
When I try regular sugared Coke now, THIS Coke Zero actually tastes better.
ReplyI've never had a taste for diet drinks and I assumed coke zero would taste like coke classic because it didn't say 'diet' ...
ReplyTo me zero tastes like new coke meets diet coke ... i can't drink it ... personally .
Been a Diet Coke drinker all of my life (23 years) and I decided to try zero. I like it. It's my new preferred poison -- tired of the side effects I am getting on Diet Coke and am actually getting tired of the chemically, tinny, taste, and the flat taste. One step closer to getting off this stuff forever, or at least moderately!
Replyss you are totally correct. I've recently began suffering with swelling in the ankles, and it is def. the splenda. I used to think this bad talk on all this diet stuff was a bunch of balony until I started suffering myself. I will do a test and take out all artificial sweeteners from my diet and see what happens. I will post and let you know!
ReplyWhy in the world are you discontinuing Diet Coke with Splenda? That's the BEST Coke on the market right now. Not to mention that it is good for folks who can't drink aspartane or sugar.
ReplyWhy is it you don't do more to rid us of sugar? Diabetics can't have it...and then when you find something they can have...you discontinue it. Dumb...that's all it is...your people have gone DUMB!
I'm addicted! I love Coke Zero... taste WAY better than any diet drink out there to me. It can't be any worse than any of the other diet/no sugar drinks out there.. Yay Coke Zero! i luv u!
ReplyActually Lex, Coke Zero and Diet Coke DO contain sugar. Don't believe the labels or any advertising because it is NOT true. Drinking coke on a base of any symptoms of illness may make it worser. And if you ever heard of a fruit called 'Durian' never drink it with coke because it will explode in your body.
Replywhat the hell is everyone's problem? People are NOT trying to scare you, they are just trying to INFORM you. It's TOTALLY your decision if you''l believe it or not. If you're gonna be drinking it still or not. aspartame is said to be a CHEMICAL used as ARTIFICIAL sweetener. but if you still prefer to chug on gallons of whatever liquid containing this - then hell -GO! to my knowledge sugar naturally tastes SWEET. but if your doctor says you already have diabetes, definitely you are INFORMED that soda won't do you good. But if you're that persistent, i don't think soda content is the issue here. It's DISCIPLINE. well who am i to speak.. it's your own life that you're actually compromising. whatever your point is. i'll just leave you with one thing... _TOO MUCH OF ANYTHING IS BAD.
ReplyI was adicted to original Coke but was making me gain weight of coarse so I gave Coke Zero a try and it doesnt make me gain any extra weight. yay lol
(and yes I know it doesnt make you loose weight either it's just nice it's not the cause of me gaining it)
It's even more adicting then the original in my opinion, doesnt quite taste as good but somehow good enough to satify me. I just wish it wasnt so bad for your teeth among other things.... but im to adicted to stop now :S oh well
Replythank you so much this really helped for my science project if you would happen to have the exact measurements that would be great please contact at weirdochik19@yahoo.com
ReplyCan anyone tell me why I can't find Caffeine Free Coca-Cola Classic anymore? I can only find the diet version and aspartame gives me an instant migraine. I have looked in 5 different major food store chains (including Wal-Mart), gas stations, even vending machines. What's a girl gotta do to get a decaffeinated drink around here??? ;-)
ReplyGot my answer from 1-800-GET-COKE. They still make the syrup but it is the individual bottling companies that decide to make and distribute based on demand. There isn't much demand for non-diet caffeine free coke so only one local grocery store is still requesting distribution in all of Richmond - WOW ... who knew!
