Biggest Loser Club: Free Trial?

2988-the-biggest-loser-club.jpgNBC’s The Biggest Loser has been one of the most popular fat loss “reality” shows on TV.

It comes as no surprise that NBC have gone even further and created the Biggest Loser Club – an on-line program covering diet and fitness – in the same style as the TV show. There is also a book (using fitness advice from trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels) and a DVD set. It’s a merchandisers dream!

What you Get

The online program begins with the customary diet profile, which asks a few basic questions about your goals, and your current weight and height.

From this they will estimate daily calorie intake (although for my statistics – it did seem a little low).

The website lists the following benefits;

  • Access your online weight loss program at home, at the office or via mobile device
  • Make better food and exercise choices with thousands of recipes, meal ideas, exercise demonstrations, and more.
  • Get personalized goals based on your height and weight, so you won’t be left hungry.
  • Speak with others facing similar challenges on the message boards and get advice from experts.
  • Assess your exercise and food habits with new and improved interactive tools.
  • Track your diet and exercise progress to see how your activity and food habits impact your ability to reach your goals.

Subscription costs $19.98 per month.

Note that they no longer offer the free trial, but do offer a number of free gifts with each online subscription (the Biggest Loser cookbook, Fitness program, and one more title).

Unless you are prepared to be billed every month or 3 months don’t sign up for this program. Even though it looks as if you will only bill you once, they are going to automatically renew you at $59 a quarter if you don’t cancel

    Hi Nancy

After reading your post I am skeptical of joining the Biggest Loser Club, I need a kick start to get motivated from your post you seem to have had a bad experience I still have not joined. I have done this in the past and know somehow I can do it again. I am struggling with getting started on a daily routine exervise program, your feedback would be appreciated.

    Hi Amber

I am replying to your post in regard to motivation, I am in two minds to sign up for the Biggest Loser Club mainly for the motivation.

A few years back I lost about 60 lbs, since I have gained back about 40 lbs due to not continuing with exercise and following a healthy eating plan.

The first time I did this I was totally dedicated to exercise and eating properly. This time I am not working out of the house and for some reason just cannot get myself motivated to exercise, are you still looking for a buddy I don’t know how old this post is. ??

    Thanks

After reading all of these posts it make me wonder if Adam has seen the show or even knows what it is promoting.

I was not looking to lose a lot of weight but found the recipes in The Biggest Loser’s cookbooks were great. They are healthy, well balanced, and my whole family enjoys them. They also help you feel full longer and on less portions.

    Adam,

In some ways you sound like a trainer, which is good! However, it is very hard when you are trying to get information and asking questions in the gym only to be directed in several directions at once. I’m a unique case in that prior to 1998 I had NEVER been in any physical activity – No playing as a kid, no baseball, no sports, NOTHING. I was prohibited from doing so due to multiple, life-threatening, medical conditions.

When I turned 36 I was so tired of being sick and tired that I consulted my doctor about getting into the gym! He told me I could keel over – and he had the medical proof to back him up (I had almost died). Nevertheless, I was determined to know what it felt like to be healthy for the first time ever.

I went to the gym/ got an awesome trainer and lost over 100 pounds in 6 months. To be honest it was a miracle and I know God helped me because there was nothing more that medical science could do for me. My attitude was ‘God, my life is in your hands and I’m trusting in you! If it is my time to go, then at least I go out fighting’

The regimen was to coin a phrase ‘crazy/ insane’ but I maintained it for 3.5 years. Then I lost my job and found I did not have the $$$ to maintain the regimen. Over time I’ve gained 50 pounds and now am hovering at 250 on my 6.0 frame.

I still go to the gym (I try to maintain 5 nights a week), but can’t seem to get the results I want. My workouts tend toward 35-45 minutes of cardio a night plus weights – one or two body parts a night – for at least 30 minutes. I also tend to not eat enough which results in my body holding on to fat and yet my diet consists mostly of lean turkey, chicken, baked/ pan cooked fish in grapeseed oil, lamb, grilled chicken and BBQ’d steak on occasion. I’ve asked for info (especially for my body type) but everyone is pitching a ‘diet-plan’ or supplement for a fee which I cannot confirm will meet my needs.

Sure the biggest loser works because of the reasons Adam stated BUT I picked up on one very telling statement by Bob Harper last season. He revealed to Michelle that many of the past seasons contestants (including one ‘Biggest Loser’) had gained back all the weight and more.

That was discouraging because it told me their plan was not sustainable in the real world. I may be wrong, but since I have already been the route of losing/ being happy and then gaining fifty pounds when I couldn’t foot the bill anymore… I just want to lose this fat and then have a real world, sustainable plan that won’t cost me $50.00 per training session plus ‘so-called’ nutritional advice. It is also very hard to find anyone who will train you – most of the trainers I’ve seen are too busy checking out the bodies at the gym instead of training their client.

    Adam, your thoughts are appreciated.

The Biggest Loser Club on-line stinks. I have been trying to cancel my membership for two weeks. I’ve called, I’ve emailed. I don’t get any response. When I reached someone by telephone they said they couldn’t locate my account. I mean, wow, they don’t seem to have any trouble locating my account when they want their $60 bucks. I’m so frigging sick of this shit. Give me WEIGHT WATCHERS any day. they aren’t just a lot cheaper, they treat their customers right, you lose weight adn if you want to cancel your membership you can do it ONLINE – the same way you can sign up. If you are thinking of joint The Biggest Loser Club – I’d think again. Their customer service stinks!!!!!

Excuse me, but you really shouldn’t knock people who have had surgury, you don’t know their struggles (ie: how long they have been working at trying to lose weight ) I had lapband surgury a year and a half ago. I credit it to saving my life. I’ve lost 86 pounds. I struggled with obesity for over 20 years. So don’t go spouting about something you obviously know nothing about.

I love the Biggest Loser. It is a great inspirational show. I am 20 pounds overweight and it helps fuel the desire to lose weight when I watch the show. I may sign up for the Club yet (after Christmas), but I think it is probably the most understandable programs out there if you need a program. They never claimed it is easy to lose weight (unlike some programs), but they give you the tools and you can connect with other people dealing with the same issues. Part of me wants to join because I am a big supporter of what they are doing and would like to be a part of it. Eating healthy and exercising is a worthy goal. It makes our lives so much better. Good luck to everyone in achieving their goal.

Everyone is different all diet plans don’t work for all people. Some people can do it on their own and others need alot of support. I think the biggest losers club is great and it teaches what to eat and how much to eat in order to change your life habits. As for just eating the same things all of the time who wants to do that for the rest of there life. As for me I went from 230 to 150 in 8 months with weight watchers smart one meals. Now I just eat small portions of regular food to keep the weight off.

I have also tried to cancel the account and recieved the same message about ‘high volume’. The only reason I can see them making you cancel by phone is to scam you into paying for the club after the free trial or to get you to renew your membership because you could not get thru in time to cancel. It is really poor business practice and I believe in may be illegal in some states. The UK site allows you to cancel online. There really is no reason to not do so online. I have contacted them by e-mail and will definitely file a report to the BBB about The Biggest Loser Club Fraud if my credit card is charged again.

… also, it doesn’t just tell you to call back at the same time you are already calling, but it simply hangs up on you after the message. they also say until 4… their lines closed completely at aprox 3:45PM EST when i tried today…. simply got a closed message to call back during business hours after 3:45.

signed up 7 days ago and was trying to cancel during the first 10 trial days so i would not be charged for something i am not using. I decided to sign up with Weight Watchers instead.

Every time i call i get immediately placed on hold by the system and then get a recording saying ‘due to high volume you cannot answer my call’… ‘try to call back between 2 and 4 PM EST…. I have called 8 times 7 of those times was well after 2:00 pm and before 4:00 pm EST. it was actually around 3 – 3:30 EST. I still keep getting the recording and can not get anyone on the line to cancel my account. I thought this would be a pleasent experiance, however, because of the problems i am having canceling i will not consider joining again at any point. I simply wish to cancel my account while i can still get a refund.

Its really not that easy. I have been dieting and excercising for years and am still 40 lbs overweight. I am a short female and find that it often takes me over 2 months to loose 1 lb. even though I am on a restricted 12oo calorie diet and one hour of excercise every day.

I have been watching the show since the first episode. I’ve found it a really great motivational tool. I think that those who have bagged the show need to realise is that yes these people have been in a very controlled environment…… if you want to do the same for yourself you do need to do it slowly, but watching the show does give you much needed info. If you watched the season that Matt won, you would have seen the discussion Gillian had with him about calories and not letting your body go into ‘starvation’ mode. For those who have made comments about “eating nothing for 13 weeks” that is not what these people are doing. And yes if you do ‘eat nothing’ for 13 weeks most likely you won’t loose any weight, you might find that you actually put on weight….if you don’t eat enough calories your body will store every bit of fat you put into it, and convert all the sugars into fat so it can store them too…. because it thinks that you are starving, it’s a self preservation mode.

So do it slow……. but mostly just do it.

The show teaches you about food choices and excercise choices if you choose to actually listen to what is being said, not just watching for entertainment value.

The show gives me motivation because it shows me it can be done. Skin does shrink back and you can look good without surgery.

I am over-weight and am working hard at getting down to a healthy size and weight. Change of diet, change of motivation and attitude in general is my “tactic and plan”.
The one thing that never helped anyone is listening to negative statements and name-calling. Those that insist on putting out only negative to others, (in my opinion), need to first take a hard look at themselves. After that they need to figure out why they MUST bully nearly everyone in their path. Doesn’t it seem a bit odd that “good job” is not a part of their vocabulary?
Good Luck to All in their efforts – you deserve a pat on the back for your efforts – either big or small!!

I am not overweight. But I have been in the past, so I speak from experience when I say it took a LOT MORE than 6 meals, no sugar, exercise everyday.

And I don’t and have never eaten junk – I was lucky to be raised differently, with actual food. I don’t even like snacks. But if you look at 95% of the food available in the world, it is junk, so it is safe to assume that most people – overweight and not overweight – are eating junk, and that “eating half of what they normally eat” will mean “eat half the junk”. That is pretty much what Weight Watchers does: you can have chips and ice-cream, just eat a little bit of them.

Steve, calling me fat shows your maturity. Yes, I’m 600lb and I eat 78 large pizzas a day. Are you happy now? If you think that is gonna offend me, try again. Like I said, I’ve been fat, and life when you are fat is a series of non-stop humiliations. I was only fat for a bit over a year, but whatever offenses you have, I have heard them all, so it is just background noise to me now.

needsnone, I apologize for calling you an idiot. I just wanted to state that it is NOT as easy as you and as other “been thin all my life” people think it is. It is very hard work. If I had done just what you said, I’d probably have gone from 230lb to 210lb at best, and I’d still be there. When you’re battling against 2 diseases that slow down metabolism, losing weight is more like “eat one of these 30 foods (all the foods you ever eat) after you’ve weighed it in a kitchen scale, combined specifically with this other food, at this exact time”. Just to MAINTAIN I have to do more than just “no sugar, no junk, exercise”. I already didn’t eat any sugar and junk when I was gaining weight fast. I have been using sweeteners since I was a baby, cause I was born with malabsorption. I’ve eaten sugar around 4-5 times a year my entire life, and I’m including honey and any foods prepared with sugar like Chinese in that account. I’ve never liked snacks in general, and I eat at Subway maybe 2x a year, since fast food is out of my price range (I don’t live in the US, and it is not cheap like it is for you).

Now, I completely agree with this paragraph:

“I think that most fat people would rather talk forever about how to loos weight, that way they don’t ever have to get off their fat asses and actually do it…. “Why exercise and do work, when I can sit on my ass and debate all day with food dripping off my chin!”

When I first wanted to lose weight, I posted in some weight loss support boards. What I found out is: most people that SAY they wanna lose weight don’t. They wanna COMPLAIN about how they can’t lose weight. I also found out that once you start losing weight, the people who were “supporting” your diet instead start questioning what you did to lose weight, calling it “unhealthy” (if you are like me and eating enough calories and not taking pills, they will resort to calling it “mentally unhealthy”), and saying that you posting about your weight loss is “triggering” them and causing them to binge. Like you, I have no patience for these people. You wanna lose weight? Lose weight. You don’t wanna lose weight? Then have the guts to say you don’t, and live happily with yourself. But don’t just whine, saying “I’ve tried every diet!” and “I have no time to exercise”. Excuses are like an… you know the rest.

    Hi,

I am week 9 of a 12 week weight loss program.
I do Cardio 4 day a week for about 45 minutes per session, mostly the treadmill. As well, I have not really changed my diet much other than the fact that I have reduced my portion sizes quite a bit. I guess you could say that I am on the “Eat Less” diet. Anyway, over the last 9 weeks I have lost 35 pound and I feel great. After this 12 week program I intend to do it again, only this time I will concentrate more on eating healthy and focus more on weight training to ensure that I maintain my lean body mass… There is definitely a lot of truth in “needsnone” beliefs. Although his message is a little direct!!!
