Which Diet for Me?
By Jim F.
I haven't actually decided to go on a diet, yet. I know that I need too, but I haven't figured out which one is right for me. Which would you recommend? Post your suggestions in the comments.

yeah! i could use some advice as well. my wife and i are on such busy schedules it is really difficult to even find time to worry, but i still do.
even just some information on how to eat *slightly* more healthy would be great.
ReplySo which diet you guys going on? I recommend the Atkins Diet. You know, the one where you stop eating. Permanently.
ReplyUma Thurman's diet looks like a good choice.

I would love Uma's diet. It's amazing how Ben & Jerry's is so selective - widens my heiny and shrinks hers.
ReplyI would suggest Weight Watchers. It is relatively easy, as well as flexible. I have tried the Atkins diet, the metabolife thing, Xenadrine, and those 3 day fad diets. Weight Watchers seems allow for busy schedules as well as indulgences.
ReplyWhat about the south beach diet? http://www.south-beach-diet-info.com/ ?
ReplyI lost 40 pounds last year, I'm now down 45 pounds from my peak. I think the only way that makes sense is to make changes to eating habits you can stick to for the rest of your life. Keeping an accurate food diary for the several months it will take to lose weight at a pound a week (say) will help make new habits permanent. Lots of commercial sites provide tools for monitoring calories, and I see many of them are mentioned elsewhere in this blog. They will probably all do the job, however so will mine, and currently there's none cheaper! www.calorielogger.com
ReplyI don't know about a diet but I saw this site http://www.boredoftheatkinsdiet.com having a funny poke at the latest fad. Very funny t-shirts.
ReplyI am from Melbourne in Australia and would like to generate some discussion on weight issues so if anybody out there would like share their experiences with me feel free to contact me or join my MSN Group at http://groups.msn.com/mindbodywellness
Replyi would recommend just to eat when you are hungry. thatīs the only kind of diet which will help for a longer time period. most of the food people eat because it is lunch time, because others eat, because it is a social happening but NOT because they are hungry. iīm loosing weight when i am eating like this. the positive thing is that you can eat whatever you want. the negative one is that it is not a diet, more a matter of changing your attitude to eating. and that is much harder to make than a diet with a fixed end date or weight.
ReplyI have heard all about this Atkins Diet, so seeing the success it is generating, I have created a new Atkins Diet - the Chet Atkins diet. Every time you are about to eat fattening food, play an unending stream of Chet Atkins music. It will likely make you so nauseous, that you will refrain from eating, and in turn lose weight - brilliant eh?
ReplyI am an Adkins failure - BIG TIME. I lost 55 pounds on this diet last year. I was absolutly thrilled with the results and all the compliments on my new body. All was going well until I had a piece of pie at my son's house at Thanksgiving and it went downhill from there. I gained 35 pounds over the past year, I feel like s***, I can't seem to get a handle on my carb cravings and I can't see the end in site. I DO NOT recommend Adkins or Southbeach.
Replywell, i'm doing a general low-carb. i started by cutting way down on sugar over a couple of weeks which made going to atkins induction level easier (i.e. no crash the first few days), then after a couple weeks of that, i have just started watching carbs.
i have lost almost 30 pounds since mid-november. i take a number of suppliments to help my body metabolize fat, make sure i have enough vitamins, etc. i eat when i'm hungry and i do eat some high-carb foods, but just way less of them. my appetite is less and i have more energy.
but the big thing for me is this is something i can live with as a lifestyle...my 2 cents.

ReplyWeight Watchers. Hands down. No gimmicks--just tools to help you figure out how to eat in a balanced, healthy way.
I've tried many many diets. When I started dieting, I weighed 140. I stopped dieting forever at 190.
Today, I weigh between 125 and 130, and I find it relatively easy to maintain as long as I work on eating consciously with PURPOSE. Weight Watchers taught me how to do that.
Cheers!
ReplyGo on the photo log diet. (Take a digital photo of all the things that you eat, each time you eat and keep them in a log on your web site or on your computer)
ReplyWell this is really boring but what I chose to do was to get some really good scales and weigh everyhing, work out the calories and stick to 1000 per day. First of all I worked out how many calories it takes to keep me at my present weight, knowing that to lose a pound per week means reducing that amount by 500 calories a day, thus I came up with the miniscule 1000 per day. It's OK actually. I am a bit hungry some of the time, but not much! Also I can eat anything I like (as long as I do the maths) and I can eat as much salad as I want. Think I've lost about 4Lb in 12 days. I would hate to think that there was some food that I wasn't allowed, that would be hard....But there is something about weighing a bit of cake and realising that to keep withing my limit I can only eat a teaspoon full that puts me off high calorie food! AnywayZ good luck :)
ReplyI don't know adsactly what diet to go on? I am a gymnast and my trainer told me that he could tell I was loosing energy and not as active as I usually am. He suggested to go on a Diet that would help me be more focused, healthy and more active.. But I can't seem to find one that actually works, and for me being young Its hard to work with. So, what diet do you think works for me?
Replyi need to lose weight i weigh 130 and i am 13 thats not bad for some people but i would like to weigh 110 or even 100 please some one give me any easy diet to work with!!!
ReplyHello all,
I'm a newbie here. I didn't even know they had diet blogs. I have a question for everyone. There is a new diet which is being advertised on the radio locally in Louisiana. It's called the "One Day Diet." Anyone can find it by plugging that into a search engine. It seems tempting enough and my father and I have decided to give it a 30 day go. Does anyone have any stories from this diet? Anyone know anyone who tried it?
It seems rediculously simple and the metabolic itmes seem to make sense, but I just don't know. It is marketed by the same company which makes SeaSilver, which I know is a fairly respected product. So much that Dr. Barry Sears of Zone fame has decided to knock off the product to his Zoners.
If you have any info, please email me. Link to my email is on my name.
Thanks a bunch,
ReplySteven in Louisiana
i would recommend changing your eating habits rather than going on a "diet". i know how it sounds, since i'm also overweight and never wanted to change the way that i eat. i have been doing alot of research on healthy eating and holistic healing. not only is there a whole other world out there, but all of the information (if you look hard enough) is free! i have a health food store in my town which makes things even easier. what i've been doing....fasting along with periods of eating salads made from everything in the garden, with cheese added. i try to stay away from pastas, breads (unless they're whole wheat), meats of any kind (chicken and fish are better than a steak or pork if you just have to), and sugar. i've also been trying to get rid of caffeine, that one's hard though. it sounds horrible i'm sure, but it feels great! the fasting will get you jump started. my advice about fasting though is that you need to study up on the area EXTENSIVELY before trying it. there are alot of things to take into consideration. i've lost 10 lbs in the last month eating this way. i don't feel any need to overeat at this point. i also haven't done anything but sat on my butt. and oh.....i had pizza last night too. not the kind that comes frozen, but pizza hut. i'm planning to have a little more today too. i'm not cutting out everything that i like. i'm just keeping it to what i really enjoy rather than whatever is sitting in front of me. because honestly, i don't think anyone could live for the rest of their lives without having the occasional doughnut....or two.
ReplyI think you should just eat smaller amounts of food. its better than I diet in the long run.
Replyhey this is for uma thruman!

ReplyI recommend the FitDay diet. It is not really a diet, you just eat healthy and enter what you're eating on FitDay. Pretty soon you'll find out which macronutrient split makes you feel the most energetic and lose weight. I ended up alternating between 25% fat, 35% carb, 40% protein (my "high-protein" days) and 25% fat, 45% carb, 30% protein ("high-carb" days) and this worked great. I just came up with these figures by trial and error, and I'm sure anyone can find their own. Once you get the hang of it and enter your foods for a month or so, you don't have to do it anymore, just stick with the portions you figured out.
ReplyYes,
ReplyI am having a hard time getting on the right diet for me. I need some help. With my busy schedule and all it's like I have no time for nothing.

ReplyI can say, without a doubt in my mind, that "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" is the best fat-loss program available. The author gives you the truth about fat loss, the real truth. The weight loss can be quite dramatic, and you will learn how to combat the dreaded fat-loss plateau.
ReplyWell I know it's weird that a 13 year old girl wants to go on a diet. But I need to loose weight before the summer. I am going to TN with my friends and I don't like the way my legs look they are kind of chubby so I want to loose about 15 pounds I weigh 135 right now I should be under 127 so can you please help me out.
ReplyThanks,
Stephanie
Stephanie, unless you are shorter than 5'1", 135lb is not overweight at all. So no, you don't need to go on a diet, and you should talk to a doctor before going on any diet while you are still growing anyway.
